      James 2:20‐26
"You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless.
Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?
You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.
You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.
In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?
As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."

I've been getting really discouraged, I believe in the lord and my savior jesus christ, I was feeling very hopeful about fighting my cigarette addiction and weed addiction, I was hopeful and I want so badly to follow him and live for him, but i keep getting told I could do everything in my power to turn away from sin and follow him and STILL go to hell. To be told that only a few will go to heaven and the others will burn no matter what they do feels like I'm falling into a black hole and can't find a way out. I've had a MAJOR wake up call that started last week, I've been learning and working toward knowing more about my lord everyday, but the more I search the more I feel I am doomed.

Even if you're FAR from perfect like I am and sometimes I feel like I'm doomed... i just have to admit that I can't do anything if that's the case, and to trust that Jesus has me covered when I slip up, and I wanna be better and I try and fix bad habits and genuinely am on a walk with God even if I find myself stumbling a lot

I’m a bit troubled that there’s not a single mention of faith in Christ here… it seems to be all about performance. Whilst I agree that our lives should be bearing fruit, this teaching feels rather unbalanced and could lead us to think that it’s all about us achieving holiness, and we know that we will all fail in one way or another, despite our best efforts. Our only hope is Jesus and His finished work on the cross. May God bless and keep us all in 2024 💜

The whole context of being a Christian is faith in Christ. No one is suggesting we can earn our salvation, which is why we confess Jesus as Lord and savior. It can be very confusing as it was for me with so many people railing against works. Claiming what ever good deeds you do or obeying the word of Jesus is works based therefore the person is working for their salvation and will not be saved, that is a deception. Much of the works Paul spoke against in scripture was the works of the law of the old covenant directed to the early Christians who were Jews retaining old practices and beliefs. I'm not suggesting you don't read scripture because I don't know you, but I would suggest, if one were to commit a portion of their day to reading scripture, especially starting with the four gospels, and the other books in their entirety, chapter by chapter within the context they were written, the fear of going to hell because your supposedly "working" for salvation would melt away. Reading context provides a much clearer understanding. I feel some people are taught by stand alone versus with commentary, then they quote the same verse and repeat the meaning that was told to them ..again I'm not suggesting you do that. The big problem with over emphasizing faith alone is there is little to no talk of repentance. "Repent and believe" two sides of the same coin, they go together. And for all the arguments about what true repentance is, just keep in mind when you turn to Jesus you turn from your sin. Also keep in mind that turning from sin doesn't mean people think they obtain righteousness from their good behavior, before we ever turned to Christ we fell short and failed. Even after we turn to Christ we still fall short of sinless perfection, which is not an excuse to sin, but it happens. then we have to confess and repent again away from our sin and keep heading toward Christ. Confession is more of an act of faith than a work because you humble yourself before God and essentially say, I have sinned, I have failed, I have fallen short and deserving of hell, I am in need of Christs forgiveness and mercy. Also think about this, why would someone want to give up earthy pleasures without believing and trusting in Christ? (of course before becoming a true believer living in the flesh seemed so desirable, repentance does change our attitude about that as well) Believing in Christ is also believing in his word and in his word are warnings about disobedience and damnation. Sorry for going so long, I hope it helps. God Bless You.

Thank you for that. I mostly agree with all that you said. I too believe repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin - I’m not saying obedience doesn’t matter or considering it to be a ‘work’. I have been in churches like this though, where the ‘by grace through faith and not by works’ (as in good works) was perhaps emphasised a little too much. I’m quite aware ‘we will know them by their fruit’ (Matt. 7:20)… I just felt from David’s short the short (and good btw) teaching, I felt it was just missing the nuance of grace when will inevitably do fall short. We only have to read the scriptures to see that the greatest men and women fell short… I’m currently studying Judges (yes I do read my Bible 😉- book by book) and find myself exasperated at the repeated line… ‘Then the Israelites had peace for X years. But once again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight’. Here we go again. So whilst we strive for holiness, we know that Jesus was the only one who consistently lived a sinless life and achieved true righteousness for us through his victory on the cross. Praise his name 🙌

And after letting her ‘mourn her virginity for 2 months’, kept his vow to the Lord. I kinda struggled with that! Tho scholars disagree on whether she actually died or whether she was vowed to temple service so she was mourning that she wouldn’t marry. But Jephthah could have redeemed her from the vow (Lev. 27) but didn’t and kept his vow to the Lord 😮

Only Jesus was sinless. To say that we must totally obey God to get to heaven would make Heaven a pretty empty place and the statement takes hope away where Jesus placed hope. In John chapter 6, let's look at 3 verses: John 6:40 Jesus tells you what the will of God is: "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." Look at John 6: 28,29 The disciples ask, what works must they do to gain eternal life? "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent." And finally; John 6:47 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life." Since the Bible says that even our good deeds are like filthy rags, (Isa 64:6 )and that if anyone says they do not sin is a liar, 1 John 1:10 , what hope would anyone have to gain eternal life? what Jesus was saying is that people were doing all these works in His name and thought they should enter Heaven , like the Pharisees, they thought they were good enough. If any of us were good enough, Jesus would have never had to die for our sin. I know we are to be Holy and try not to sin. But the word "believe" means to put our complete trust in. It means complete trust. Jesus said, "he who believes in me (puts their complete trust in) Has everlasting life." It's why He came, He put it all on Himself. he did not say; "he who is Holy, or does not sin (that would not be possible)Romans 3:10,11 no one is good. Jesus did not say "he who does good deeds..., He said "he who believes in me", Has, not you might have , or, you could have (come into heaven but, remember that thing you did in 6th grade... sorry disqualified). No, what Jesus said was, that if you put your complete trust in Him, you would HAVE everlasting life. Now, I believe in repentance and Lordship, but if those could be lived exactly, with out mistake or sin, then we would not need a savior. We could have done it ourselves. But, we cannot. People, the Bible says that "The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ." It was made a gift because we could not obtain it any other way.

Dear David, your saying you must follow the 10 Commandments to be saved? Did you know that we are not UNDER the 10 Commandments because no man could ever live up to them to be perfect and enter the Kingdom of GOD!
The Laws are written on our hearts today and we use them to avoid sin and not to get saved!
Not a peep from you on Jesus hanging on the Cross to pay for all sins one time!
In order for one to get saved today in the church age one MUST put all their Faith from their Heart in the Death, Shed Blood (very important,) Burial and Resurrection of Jesus The Christ! 1st Corinthians 15: 1-4
Ephesians 2: 8-10 shows us that Salvation is a Free Gift to be Received by us in order for the Shed Blood of Jesus to wash us clean of our past, present and future sins in the eyes of GOD!
2 Timothy 2: 15 show us to Rightly Divide the word of GOD to show us the different ways to get saved for different times and so much more.
Romans 3: 25 Whom God hath set forth to
be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his
righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
    forbearance of God;
It is our Faith Alone in the Shed Blood that saves us along with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus the Christ who did ALL THE WORKS to pay for our sins in full through our Faith from our Heart!
Based on your own words David you are working to get saved and stealing from what Jesus did in Full for you to get saved!
You might sit back and watch this video on The Blood of Jesus for it is life or death for you if you fail to trust in what Jesus did for you!

@@j.huffhumble4281 hold the phone J. Humble. First off we know we as sinners have no way to pay for our sins other than go to hell and then the lake of fire after judgement by GOD; therefore, the only way to be REDEEMED by GOD is from our faith (Ephesians 2: 8-9.) Jesus did all the work to pay for all our sins in full and we put our faith in the shed blood along with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus The Christ as the only way we can atone for our sins under this age of Grace and Mercy from GOD the Father in Heaven.
The Book of James if you would just read the first line in that book you find that book is all directed to the 12 tribes of Israel and for the Tribulation Period. We can't lose salvation once we put all our Faith in what and how Jesus paid for our sins in full ONE TIME on the Cross as our Perfect Blood Sacrificial Lamb.
GOD forbid you think you can lose what GOD seals with the Blood of Jesus.
It is GOD through the Holy Spirit that works to clean your lousy stinking flesh up of sin; yet, your soul is sealed to GOD. Ephesians 1: 7.
Christians think they have to do all this work before and after to keep their faith. That sure was the case before Jesus ever showed up on earth! 2 Timothy 2: 15

      Hebrews 8:10
Yeah, we do not need to keep commandments of God, BUT it is the Holy Spirit which works through God's grace and our faith and makes us walk in His commandments. In the end, we again have to walk in His commandments to so be saved, but it just functions differently then in OT. Verse which will clarify more what I want to say:
1 John 3: 9. "Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God."
Note that the Greek verb used here is in continous tense. So ocassional backsliding may happen to new born Christians, but this verse is talking about continual sin.
Also, we western Christians believe in theory of atonement called "penal substitution" which was unknown to early Christians. They primarily believed in "moral transformation" theory which says that Jesus' sacrifice destroyed the power of sin in us and empowered us to walk in His commandents and do good works. So terms like "Jesus paid the price" are discutabile.

I agree brother. If we had to keep the 10 commandments in order to be saved we'd all be doomed. One, we all break them, even after we become a believer. Two, by living to keep commandments, is of course by works. And we know we cannot be saved by our own works. It's impossible. Jesus paid for our sins once and for all on tge cross, hence His might final words. " It is finished!". He meant our captivity in sin is over. I'm really starting to grasp the power of the cross. Amen my friend!

@@TTundragrizzly The term "faith only" occurs only once in the Bible...in James where it says:
"Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only."(Ja 2:24)
So how to reconcile it with Eph 2:8-9? Very simply - by quoting the verse 10 as well! So we are not saved by works but by faith. What kind of faith? Faith that WORKS.

When talking of salvation, the bible defines " the will of the father" for us. John 6 40 this is the will of the father that you " believe" on the one he sent. Please study mathew 7 carefully. The " fruit" spken of is false doctrine or teaching that is a false gospel. You see they are in sheeps clothing, so from outward apearance like behavior and good works etc, they look good. Its thier false message of works for salvation that is th bad fruit. They and those they decieve will stand before him on that day and speak of things they have done instead of Christs finished work for them. No true christian, when asked why they should be allowed into heaven, would answer by listing the good things they have done.

He who does the will of the Father
The gospel is the gospel of the kingdom!
Jesus is going to return and set up the kingdom of God ON THE EARTH! God’s government ON THE EARTH! The Messiah died for his people! God resurrected the Messiah! The Messiah will resurrect his people! The destiny of the Messiah and his people is to be ON THE EARTH! The renewed restored earth! God also dwelling with them! Rev 21
    Matt 24
14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Jesus said the Father is the only true God!
    John 17
3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

Will of the Father is here, see-
      John 6:39-40
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. This is indeed the will of my Father, that all who see the Son and believe in him may have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.”

3:26 Sounds like you think you can enter the kingdom of Heaven by doing this or that. That's false teaching, David. You have not understood whats the will of God.

    • @JerusalemPraetorium
      @JerusalemPraetorium 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@endtimesareuponus8930 No, he did not. This is the word of God *“Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit."* What David said you have to do, is not true.
