You know.. I recently found your channel after falling into the rabbit hole of ultra running.. gotta say, there’s something special, incredibly admirable, and truly inspirational about you. Your bountiful respect and gratitude for your crew, volunteers, and fellow runners. Thank you! You’re a legend in my book. My first long distance trek will be because of you and your adventures. You’re an ultra human hahah no other way to put it! Congratulations on all you’ve done!
Casey thank you for the kind comment. I love this sport and I love sharing the adventures with you. Let me know when you choose a long distance trek to go after! I'm proud to be a part of your journey.
Yeah I've watched lots of ultra videos and things but your sentiment about running is hard to miss and hits deep! It's what keeps all of us going! 💪🏃♂️
I’m so lucky and blessed to be able to train for and run these long events. The difficulty level is high but the good feelings along the way can’t be matched.
First off Wes, Absolutely amazing accomplishment. Your drive and filmmaking has really taught me a lot about this journey we call ultrarunning. Secondly, you have personally inspired me to document my own journey training for my races. So for that inspirations I thank you! Can't wait to see what the future holds for you Wes, Much love!!
Thanks for letting me know, Cameron, I've subscribed to your channel and I look forward to following your journey. Thank you for watching and supporting the channel!
What an inspirational year you've had. The Tahoe 200 is on my bucket list. I just started trail running in 2020 and hoping to do my first 50k this year. Thanks for the great content and motivation
Thank you for cutting all of these videos together, I'm gonna try a 72 Hr race this year (hvnt gone 100M yet in a race/run) and YOUR videos inspire me. Thank you for the time you put into your videos, CONGRATZ! and well done!
Absolutely mind-blowing & inspirational...! I'm a hiker in the UK in my late 40's who's just recently started watching ultra videos & I can honestly say, your achievements have made me want to push harder than ever in my own pursuits...& more than ever make it across the pond to be able to personally see some of those views you've had the chance to see. Privileged to follow you sir.
Your videos have such a calming and relaxing feeling. Its nice. I did Ouray 100 this year which was very challenging and pushed me in ways I was not expecting. I thought that would be the last one but now I'm thinking I should do a 200 thanks to you :)
During Bandera 100K I was running with someone who talked about Ouray 100, they said it was tough, but awesome. Sounds like your experience agrees. I hope you are able to try a 200, I have personally fallen in love with the longer distance and its multiday nature. It will push you even further!
I love that you do all of this for you. You don’t gotta be flashy or glamorous about anything, just get out there and get it done. Im down on IT band and have been for a while but I WILL see you while we are both running one of these in the future. Remember the name Brandon Beech, I’ll give you a fist bump!
Great to meet you Brandon, and thank you for joining as a channel member! I'm glad you appreciate the vibe. I like the way you described it. Good luck with your IT band rehab, I look forward to seeing you on the trails.
Congrats Wes, I have the algorithm gods to thank for bringing me to your channel, and it was actually the Moab vid that I first came across. Love your style of capturing these, and really like your style in general! Not often I feel strongly enough to comment on TH-cam but just wanted to thank and congratulate you, a really amazing accomplishment!
It was a tremendous pleasure Jimmy! I love that my memories of you on the trail span three tremendous courses. It was fun being so close to you so much of the time.
Amazing accomplishment, congratulations!! I love watching your videos, I live in the PNW and have ran many of the same races - your videos are great previews and super helpful in preparing me for the course (thank you!!). I just signed up for the Mountain Lakes 100, this will be my first 100 miler and you can be sure that I'll be studying your video (although I think the course has been slightly changed due to fires). Keep up the great work, you are a huge inspiration!
I'm so excited to hear you're signed up for ML100. While the course is different now, the vibe is surely the same. Go Beyond does a great job, and those trails are really nice. Good luck with your training this year! That was the first race video I made, beforeI had a GoPro and the documentation was more personal. I didn't know back then that I'd keep running further and make more videos! Thanks for watching the channel, I'm happy the content is meaningful to you.
Astonishing dedication to the sport and to your continued improvement. I am truly humbled and privileged to be able to see your footage and glimpse the amazing perseverance it must take. Thank you for your videos and for sharing with us.
Congratulations, what an accomplishment! Thank you so much for putting this together and sharing! I’m just beginning my journey into ultras. You are a huge inspiration
Wes, you are absolutely my favorite ultra runner on TH-cam and serve as such an inspiration! Great vid as always and a huge congrats on this accomplishment! You make it look so easy but I’m sure words cannot even describe what it was like to do this. Coming from someone who has DNF’d a few times and has yet to hit my first hundred, I can say that you are super human!!
Thanks for the comment, I’m so happy you enjoy the content. You’re right it is impossible to describe the challenges, even having done them I can barely reflect back and fully appreciate the hardships. Ultra amnesia sets in quickly and the hardest sloggiest most painful parts are minimized in memory. The feeling of accomplishment, finishing a tough course after days of alternating struggle and joy, it keeps bringing me back!
Awesome job, thanks for putting all the footage together, this is great for anyone looking at these races. Maybe not all in one year though! Unbelievable.
Just watched this one, plus all the indervidal reports (some twice) great work Wes. I find your vids both insperational and calming (If that makes sence) 😃
I’m happy you enjoy the videos! I met a runner along the Cocodona course last week who told me he finds the videos relaxing when he’s stressed. You’re not alone! 🙌🏼
My first 50 miler is in 2 weeks. You'd better believe I have your race recaps and podcast appearances downloaded and ready to go. Helps keep my long-term, longer-distance goals in mind. 🏃♀️
Good luck, I’m so excited for you! If you’re like me there may come a point in the run where you’re like, Dang, 50 miles is a long way. Acknowledge the challenge and admire yourself for being rad enough to take it on. And then eat something, rally, and keep moving. 50 miles is a long way, but the journey will take you even further! And have fun! That’s part of the whole point!
Wow Wes what an adventure. I admire you to have the mindset to keep doing these events. I know you have to do it but your team is as just important. Your films of these adventures are brilliant and l love the channel. Good luck on the next one, best wishes👍❤
Well I did contact Websters and ask them to change the word "inspirational" to "Wespirational"!! You keep giving me hope for those kinds of adventures one day! Thank you.
Thanks for watching Anthony! I do want to tackle Tor, yes. Since I watched Jeff Pelletier's video of it I've wanted to tackle that monster. Hopefully I can get in in the next couple years.
Love it !! Such an inspiration. Congrats on such a feat. I chuckled, “oh you smell bad.” Haha, leave it to our kids to say the truth, even at 150 miles 😂
Congratulations on an awesome accomplishment! Each race was impressive to watch individually but all put together it’s mind blowing what you were able to do!! I’m curious what shoes you primarily wore or if you had different ones for different races. Anyways…very well done!!
Thank you Terri. It is difficult to any one of the races justice, the single complication even less-so, but can’t hide the sheet magnitude of the while thing. Such an audacious thing to try, but I’m so happy I did. I wore primarily Topo Athletic Ultraventure Pro. I mixed in a couple pairs of Topo Athletic Ultraventure (version 1), and in two races I did long road sections in Topo Athletic Phantom 2 road shoes (my feet loved that btw)
I thought I used my poles, and so I went back to the video, and sure enough I used my poles going up. I'm pretty sure I was REALLY using the poles to help pull myself up. I was also suffering Tahoe Lung, but that's a different problem. Thinking back, everyone used poles, going up AND going down. In fact on the way down I slipped and my pole helped catch me, but it was a LEKI and it ripped the loop out of my hand strap! I called my crew and they were able to buy new poles in Tahoe City so at least I could have a replacement strap. It is a tough climb, but you'll get it done. Just put your head down and slog it out. One step in front of the other, every step is progress, take your time if you need to but just slog it out. If you want to really feel my uphill experience I can post a members-only video of the 8 minutes of raw video I shot on the way up, let me know.
I eat real food at the aid stations: burgers, pizza, mashed potatoes, stuff like that and then during each segment I have a mix of gels and snacks plus calories and electrolytes added to my water.
Good luck, brother! I'm sitting in the Moab lottery at the moment. Still trying to figure out if I'm stressed because I want to get picked or I don't. lol

Doing it all in one year was a lot! Thanks for watching!
@@wplate On a side note, that's an awesome thumbnail on your video btw
I've been on a Wes Plate marathon this Thanksgiving weekend. It's been great 😄

Always inspiring and amazing documentary! It was awesome to meet you at Bandera! Coming for some of these distances.

Thank you for watching Taylor! Editing is an endurance sport all its own. ❤️
Love you Wes inspired my first 100 this summer!
Awesome! What 100 are you working for?
Oregon Cascades 100
In addition to the Tillamook Burn 50 miler!
@@charliesliney4986 nice, I’d like to do both of those. Good luck! I hope your training goes well and you have a lot of fun!

I think the extra credit to the Grand Slam should be the JMT. Obviously not a race, but an epic trail spanning 211 miles through the Sierras.
I’d love run on the JMT some time!
Hi Wes. I’m doing tahoe 200 in a few weeks and I’m pretty nervous about the power line section. Do poles help or is it too steep?
I thought I used my poles, and so I went back to the video, and sure enough I used my poles going up. I'm pretty sure I was REALLY using the poles to help pull myself up. what is the food strategy over such a distance ?
I eat real food at the aid stations: burgers, pizza, mashed potatoes, stuff like that and then during each segment I have a mix of gels and snacks plus calories and electrolytes added to my water.
“Only 50 more until I see you”
Seeing crew is so motivating!
What an achievement. Good for you, man.

More of the same, but also less of the same. Hoping for two 200s this year plus a couple 50M and 100M adventures.
