Looking forward to see how this compares to the Nammatj, Tom. I’m hovering over the buy button on a Nallo but this tent does impress. I know the hillebergs are noisy in the wind and not great with condensation. Do you really rate this above the Nammatj or is the weight saving swaying things for you. Cheers.
Brought one last week, have to say its a brilliant tent for the price, picked it up on Trekitt along with a footprint for like £600, its really stable and quality is up there with the best i would say.
Hi Paul, obviously I am very pleased to hear you comment on my channel thank you very much and I really hope that all is going well for you. This is a difficult one and while I never have had any condensation issues with Hillebergs (although 99 percent of my camping is done in windy conditions) this Abisko is better ventilated than a Nallo as the Nallo has no high venting options as far as I can see... I rate this very close to the Nammatj for high wind performance as I have had them both out in measured 50mph winds and the Abisko takes it as well due to its aerodynamic and lower back end... The 9.6mm pole at the front also helps with stability and it is lower than the Nallo which adds further stability. So it's not as durable as the Nammatj due to the extensive use of the 20d fabrics and 40d floor. Its not quite as strong or not quite the same interior space but its actually durable, strong, and spacious enough and at 1kg lighter then its hard to justify the Nammatj on 95 percent of my camps... To compare this tent (I have owned it, and the Abisko Lite 1) to the Nammatj doesn't really make sense. If you're going into conditions that call for the Nammatj, you want that, not this. But most people aren't. I use the Nallo because it is considerably burlier than the Abisko Lite series. It does take up more space in the pack, but it's also slightly more comfortable.

Hey Denis, great to hear from you and thank you for the positive feedback... Yeah it takes a lot more effort to film reviews in the field, so not too many do it... Hard to know if its worth the effort as a lot of people dont even notice... The Akto Nammatj comparison will be done in a camping ground as I am not fit enough to carry all 3 into a mountain environment ha ha... Hi Tom. Always good to see some real world reviews under actual user conditions. A lot of nice touches on this tent for sure. Strength to weight it’s up there. Also you forgot to mention it’s outer pitch design. Another huge plus point IMO. Wind in the mourne mountains is just incessant, so for this type of camping an ultralight tent is just not a year round option. I’m glad you are so pleased with this tent 👍
Hey Gary thank you for the comments... yeah you are right on the outer pitch design.... It makes the tent manageable to set up and take down in harsh conditions. I got bent poles on every single inner first pitching tent either setting up or taking down.... This tent was dropped in 45mph winds no bother at all and no where near taking any pole damage due to the outer pitch design.... I actually didn't mention it as I was trying to point out more of the unique features of the tent if that makes sense... ATB Tom
The Trango was a solid performer. I had this same model. A real beast of a storm shelter, and very livable. The roof top window blew out of mine during a ferocious storm. That’s when the real fun began. I spent many fearful nights in that tent and it never disappointed me. I like your videos.

I can see you are definitely smitten on your new find, Tom - well done! I really like the dual fabric on the outer, a really nice feature. The double tie backs on the door are a practical feature as well. You can really see how they have placed a lot of attention to detail on this tent. Very nice. Thanks.

Thanks Tom. I can see that this tent has much more room than my Soulo. I think the weight is comparable. Very helpful presentation. I use foam ear plugs when the wind sounds are so ferocious...

Hey Tom, another realistic review. You won't have to worry about condensation build up. Seriously, some tough relentless winds. That's what is to be experienced to evaluate strength. Interested to see the rear vestibule rolled all the way up. Maybe during the Hilleberg comparison. Fjallraven knows their materials. Not surprised on the quality. Wouldn't it be simpler to have two 10mm poles though? I currently don't have a tunnel design tent. So I'll be watching. Thanks. Hardly ever too bad to make a cup of coffee.
Hey Sam great to hear your thoughts on this one.... I will demo the door and rear roll up in my next video... Yeah two 10mm would be easier and make the rear end seriously stable... I love the larger pole diameters in 4 season tents as it also takes some pressure of the guy lines. In mountain pitches there are many times when its difficult to secure every single point of the tent and when the tents strength really depends on this it can be a bit of a pain and very time consuming at times... I love tunnel designs as the strength to weigh ratio is so good. Also the tent kind of holds its height along the roof too... ATB Tom
Great video Tom. I am looking for a 2 man tent for solo camps and been giving the Allak 2 some serious consideration. I had seen the Abisko lite 2 in action with Al from Bushman and Blue but never really considered it until now. Obviously it is a different proposition as it is not free standing like the Allak 2 but at nearly half the price and less than 2/3 the weight your video has me rethinking things. I am looking forward to you next video to see the comparison with the 2 hillebergs.
Hi Simon, great to hear from you.... Tent choice is never easy as always pros and cons... This tent is not as large or tall as the allay or as adaptable but for me the weight saving is more important... It jus depends on your priorities... Great review. Ive had a catastrophic tent failure on mt Kosciusko at about 2000metres. Using old tents for “nostalgic reasons. Massive storm. Had to use emergency hut. Next trip my friend had a tunnel tent similar storm nil issues. Sonexcellent reviews are critical for me 👍
Hi thank you for sharing your experience.. I only keep tents for a certain amount of time...Unseen wear to fabric will make it weaker over the years and if you keep them too long then they are beyond economic repair.. Great video tom as usual and in depth on the minor things , gonna invest in this tent and possible get mesh inner have you reviewed any mesh inners as i think this would be a great asset i would assume it makes it a little more 3 season
Hey Neil, thank you for the comment.. The inner on this is 15d so very light and breathable.. Ventilation is also very good. Mesh inners are usually no lighter than the solid ones and even in summer here in Ireland it's always windy so a mesh inner is too drafty for me... It's also a small audience that would be interested in a review of one so not on my to do list.. best wishes
Wow, thanks to a great video!! I really like that you use a anemometer...cause there are soo many claming that they are in strong winds/hurricane ect ect but they dont have anything to messaure it with! I have used that tent for Fjällräven Classic in Sweden(worked as a guide), great for one person but I bought the bigger Abisko Endurance 3 when we(my, girlfriend and dogs) hikes in the montains. Hope that you will have a chanse to try that one as well, I prefer that over the Nammatj 3GT. Cheers!

Yeah I like to keep my videos real so measuring wind speed properly is one of my favourite pastime s when camping....I love the specification of Fjallraven tents but had a problem with fabric damage on this one and the customer service was poor too so I am afraid no more Fjallraven for me.. I agree! Fjällräven tents are SO AMAZING! I've have mine in some very strong winds +60mph and still ok... :) Hilleberg and Fjällräven are the best on the market. :)

Been using mine on the beacons way and love the design. Thinking of selling my hilleberg soulo for the Abisko light one man because I’m so impressed with the Abisko light 2.
Hey Andrew, great to hear your thoughts.... I am in a similar situation with my Hilleberg Akto and Nammatj 2.. One or maybe even both will have to be sold as I am so happy with the Abisko Lite 2. It has so much more room than the Akto for a small weight penalty and nearly as strong as the Nammatj at a kilo lighter...Thank you once again for your input as a Hilleberg and Fjallraven user and owner.. Hi Tom, thanks for this review, you gave me a good impression of the Abisko light 2. A question: are you familiar with the brands Tatonka and Nordisk ? They have similar (at least "looking" for me) tents. Tatonka arctis 2.235, this tent has a longer innertent (223,5 cm) and Nordisk has the Halland 2 LW. They are also few centimeters higher (5 approx) than Abisko.

Thanks for this video. I’ve been watching your channel for a few weeks now as I’m researching tents and I find you to be really honest. I’m in the Scottish Borders, so wind and rain protection are high on my list. Would you say this or the Soulo BL is a stronger tent? I think the Soulo, but this one seems to have better ventilation. Hi Andrew, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Soulo BL definitely stronger and more durable. Ventilation and space great here on the Abisko and it's strong. My issue with it though is in long term durability if exposed to harsh weather on a regular basis... I have another video out Sunday where I will discuss this. ATB Tom

Pretty spot on review Tom Ive had an Abisko Lite2 for a few months now Im getting too old to lug up my other tents up mountains. Got this last year due to its weight and the 4 season tag. Up to now only one of my trips was in rough weather 35-40mph it stood up well. I am still reserved how good this tunnel tent is as all my other tents are heavy geodesic which Ive used for many years. Up to now Ive been pleasantly surprised. Tom what are your thoughts of double polling this tent ?
Hi Brian, thank you for your feedback and watching my video...I always love to hear from other owners of the tent that I am reviewing.. I bought this one for the same reasons as you ha ha.. Double Polling... Flip that's a subject...... Big plusses and minuses..Adds massive stability and reduces the dependancy of guy lines which is nice. I actually fancy a blue one of these tents in addition to this one as I can cycle the use of the tents and also have the option of double polling. It does however add about 500g and this is a lightweight tent with super light fabrics so if you are regularly needing to double pole it then its nor going to be as durable... The single pole option will handle 60mph winds I am sure so that's pretty good. I have a video on my Nammatj 2 double poled at the rear and it makes some difference but then that's a tent designed for more durability.... Hope this helps. I could write more but I have a serious number of comments to get back to on this video.... ATB Tom

Hi R W, good to hear from you.... Thats a tough one... Like you I actually like trekking pole tents so I have a little Lanshan 2 pro which I love.. Maybe I will update that if I can find the right DCF one... Then for a normal tent if that's the right word I would probably choose a Blue one of the Abisko s. Sitting at 2 KG its is nice and light and strong enough for 95 percent of the camping I do. Fed up a bit getting hammered by the winds on my last 3 outings and getting no sleep. I think I'll take the Lanshan out 20 mins from the car and cook my self a steak.... ATB Tom

Interesting review. Is the flysheet strong enough for mountain use then? 20 denier seems quite lightweight.
Hi Michael, that's a great question... Borderline .... Its 40d in all the stress areas which is smart but 20d is very thin on all the rest.. If it was 20d all over then I would say no but with the smart reinforcement then its heading in the right direction. Still need to be super careful with accidental damage and long term durability if continually used in harsh conditions.. The inner too is 15d which you need to watch, and the floor 40 so I use a footprint. At least the fly 20d is silicone coated on both sides so strong but still lacks abrasion resistance if that happens... I will mention this in my next video as the tent had a tiny amount of damage to part of the 20d fabric beside the pole slieve... ATB Tom
I just bought and used the Allak 2p. I did a ton of research and landed on it. I wish it wasn’t 6-7 pounds but I used it over 4 days with winds up to 40 mph and it held up great. I think it has 12 guy lines but I really had a ton of room and could even use the vestibules if needed. I might post a video for it after my next hike. Too expensive for most people at $11-1200 but a real solid tent
Hey Soggy than you for sharing your experience of the Hilleberg Allak... its a great tent and offers fabulous versatility with its inner layout and vestibule options... Much more room in it than this tent but 1kg heavier.... ATB and happy camping. Tom
at the of the day tom we want tent to be comfortable for setting up in any weather, for us to be safe in weather which is no seen in city , we do admire these cloud formations in mountains, clouds on eye level, true darkness, i can only imagine what people from movies "Meru" , or "the alpinist" (Canadian guy) what they seen , gosh they must seen gods art in extreme,
i personally think Tom that msrs "advance pro" tent system is the future for best tents , hubed poles go into sleeves other half is clipped, i wish to see double skin models like that with stronger poles or even triple hubed poles, with some wide massive clips for easiness. even not existing model with double poles hubed like on msr advance model in front, and abiskos small tunnel pole at the end makes sense for tent design, you could make it possible to even double pole whole thing.
Hi Karl, yeah tent design needs to advance a lot more in the text 10 years than it has in the past 10... I do like a combination of pole slieves and clips I must admit.. ATB Tom

I've got a question, don't you think it can be a problem in temperatures below freezing, that the mesh vent window of the Abisko inner tent can not be closed?
It seems to me in low temperatures, under the wind, it could be more preferable to have less mesh there, or to close it like in Hilleberg tents.
Hi thank you for watching and commenting. This night the temp was close to freezing and I have been out in windy conditions at minus 6 celsius... No worries at all as you can completely seal the outer vent and this inner vent is quite high. The thinner 15d fabric though is just not as wind proof as the Hilleberg 30d inner fabric. So far this has not been a problem but I recently noticed in the Akto I felt the inner was less air permeable.. The thin inner fabric helps ventilation but the thicker Hilleberg fabric favours 4 season conditions... ATB Tom

Have you ever looked into the Slingfin tent range? I’m based in Scotland and I find their range to be amazing strength to weight ratio wise!
Hi Jordan, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. YES many times and I love some of their design features such as the web truss system. Slingfin are a bit of a mixed bag though as the web truss is complicated and some of the fabrics used are far too thin to have the durability. For example the Wind saber has a 20d ground sheet which is actually half the thickness of the one on the Fjallraven here and even this is too thin IMO. Lightweight sells tents and really puts me off due to the trade off in long term durability of exposed even fairly frequently to hard conditions. This tent here as now taken some damage after only 5 or 6 camps and I will discuss this in my next video... ATB Tom

Sebastian... NO.... I LOVE MY GEAR AND TENTS TOO MUCH. And they are mine so my philosophy is to be prepared so the risk of failure is minimal. .. Failure and bail videos get lots of views and while I admit like most TH-camrs I want the views I will not do videos which may damage my £1000 tents and risk my safety. Opens right out in summer, is a really good all year round tent
Plenty of mesh and the inner door are kind with mesh which can be zipped up with the liner to make it warmer in winter.. plenty of mesh…

I did not demonstrate, it but mentioned in the video that you can roll up the back fly and front for ventilation if it's not raining. You have a few other replies here too which is great. The front door also has a mesh option and there is a mesh section at the rear inner of the tent which is permanently open.... It is a four season tent so ventilation is outstanding regarding what the tent is designed for.... ATB Tom

Hi Dave, I suppose it depends a fair bit on your height. I am more than happy with the height of this tent as the low height helps so much with wind stability and this is very important to me... The height also doesn't drop off too quickly which is good. In the Hilleberg Akto for example which is technically higher the height drops immediately from the centre pole and I find sitting up and getting organised much more of an issue... Tom
I have the Abisko Light 3. Really great tent. Only weighs 200grams more and you get two entrances instead of one. Perfect for 2 people.
Yeah Tor this is a great point as many of the 3 persons tunnel tents are only a tiny amount heavier for decent interior space gain. The extra entrance is an added bonus. I appreciate you sharing this information as very valid points and always great to hear from users of the same or similar tents... ATB Tom
Such a nice tent. Really is light and strong enough to use all seasons. Super versitile and I quite like the compact sleeping area, as you say; significant for one.
Quite expensive, but it's a quality versitile piece of kit. Plus, tents are just expensive nowadays.
Rarely do I see tents on TH-cam where I think they would be fit for up here on the hills in the Scottish Highlands, but this is legit.
Edit - I take back what I said about cost, £460 online just now. That's not bad at all.

You are right all tents are expensive these days but some bargains to be had on this one I think mainly because its building its reputation as opposed to already having one.... I got this one for £450 new on eBay so when I sell my Ako I'll have a decent amount of cash in my pocket and a tent that I prefer.... ATB and thank you for dropping the comment. @@TOMHEANEY100 I think some people would be surprised at just how robust a tent needs to be to withstand wind gusts of 30mph, and what that actually looks and feels like at night from the inside of the tent. Kudos for you doing it solo.
Indeed, still have the MTN2 and just bought a 2nd set of poles, as who knows when they will stop making them and I think the fabric will outlast the poles, hence purshase. The Quasar is my friend/hiking partner, and he has just upgraded to the new one with the 9.5mm (I think?) poles. I use a Hexpeak v4a for the milder weather. Very robust and semi-light.. I was immensely impressed.
Anyway, I could talk tents and gear all night. Look forward to the next one, Tom 👍

Hi Tom super video - i have Neve been in that kind of wind with my Abisko Shape 3 - it handled it very good. What do you think of the hight of inner tent and what about condensation .

The inner height is just ok and I can accept it as manageable because the low height of the tent really help with the wind stability and this is very important to me. Every single time I have taken the tent out it has been very windy so zero issues with condensation.... Look forward to you making more videos and I hope you have some on the way.... ATB Tom
I have got a puppy... its stalling my video projekt with the Abisko tent ha ha. I have had some bad experiences with tent regarding condensation and also the hight of the inner tent - in the foot end the fabric is making my quilt vet and I have had frozen condensation creating snowfall ha ha. I was surprised to see how well it preformed in your storm video - looking forward to see it up against a Hilleiberg tent. I have kept the tent because I haven't found a better winter tent - maybe you are right about it is a great tent for windy and cold conditions - relativ low weight 😊🏕

I wonder of the tent can support a great amount of snow as there are only 2 poles. I see a weak point on the roof between the 2 poles ? My winter tent has 6 poles ( Marmot Thor 2 ) , so thats why I was asking . I am from Canada where we get good snowstorm . Thanks for the review, well done
Hi Bon, just looked up the weight of the Thor.... 4.7KG.... So there must be a price to pay on a lighter tent... it's really only damp snow that causes the problem as dry snow blows off and doesn't settle as much on the roof.... Hillleberg and Fjallraven, two Swedish tent manufactures rely on tunnel tents for their winter use... This tent can be double poled which takes the weight to 2.5kg and both ends are then so strong that they will support serious weight in the roof between the poles.. I saw a video from Eden Adventures I think, where wet snow destroyed a North Face Ve25... so sometimes you just have to remember to manage conditions before they become a problem...great to hear this comment so thank you... i keep hearing you saying i had 3 hours of sleep or something, I'm telling you i slept well with goretex army hat with massive double ear flaps in 70 + km h winds, i wish there would be models like that for simple mountaineering hats, main thing is to shut out brain from scary noises in the tent, tent shaking etc on the body level doesn't bother the body, but the brain it does , it makes us scared that we might die basically, bulky goretex hat which blocks hearing really changes things, that army hat is a bit annoying because in high wind that front rain roof is picking up the wind , i think it can be cut, and remade if there's no models available commercially

To be honest I personally prefer to be 100 percent aware of my surroundings just incase something happens that if dealt with quickly can minimize the damage.. Just a personal thing as in the past I have awakened hearing something not right and found 2 pegs had popped. I sorted it quickly before any tent damage.. Just my way and preference.. In a video by bushman and blue this tent got flooded when it was wet outside, so if love to hear how it performs in wet conditions as well. Obviously the comparison to the nammatj would be super interesting as well. Fjällräven also has a handful of other tents that closely resemble Hilleberg designs, so id love to hear where and how they differ.
Hi Tim, I have had this tent out in serious rain... It's the video which has nearly 60k views. You dont really appreciate the rain in. the video as I had to edit out background noise in order for you to hear my voice... The tent performed amazing in this rain and serious wind with no dampness coming through. In Bushman's video.... where he camped actually turned into a small river and the high winds blew the fly against the inner bath tub blowing it flat. This allowed the water to come in over the top of the tub and into the tent. IMO any tent would have let in water under these circumstances. Vestibule into the wind may have helped if the flow of water wasn't too fast that it was coming over the tub height if you know what I mean.... ATB Tom

I've a Nammatj 2 (along with a few others) seriously thinking of the abisco 2, if only for the weight saving.
The slope in roof is absolutely fine for a wee guy like me as well tbh. ✅️
@@thomasomoore9252 The sleeping mat is the Big Agnes Rapids SL regular wide. I got it from Ultralight Outdoor Gear... Great to hear you have a Nammatj. I find it hard to use mine at the moment due to the extra kg over the Abisko. the Nammatj is defiantely more durable but the Abisko durable enough.... ATB Tom

Only thing that I've read and seen is that the lower bottom end gets wet when wind and rain pushes the fly against the inner.
Have you had this yet?
Thinking of any remedial action to solve this before I decide and hit the purchase button.. ?

@@thomasomoore9252 Hi Thomas Bushman used this tent in conditions that most won't.. I own this tent so I can see physically what happened.. He had so much water on the ground that it was above the tub floor.. Not a fault of the tent.. Vestibule into the wind may have helped... I will try to remember to show this to some extent in my next video... ATB Tom
That's a lot of tent for the money. I think that all adds up to a better value tent than the soulo or akto. Food for thought Tom 🤔
Hi Joe, I hope you are well.... Yes it has a serious amount of features and attention to detail... Quality materials and construction too. Its suiting me more at the moment due to its light weight, space and strength in high winds... We will see how it does when I match it up to my Nammatj and Akto.... I have been looking at the abisko shape but not sure weather to go for the 2 or 3 , I will probably mostly use it alone but would be too occasionally to use with my wife , the cabin size is the same as yours , do you think the 2 is really to small for 2 people?
Hi Phil yes I really do think its to small for two... The 3 person models are only about 250g heavier so very little extra weight but more space and height... Its a tough choice as my wife too wants to come camping but that's only a couple of times a year so in some respects then not worth getting the 3 person and the two person is fab for one.... Does the foot of your sleeping bag touch the inner? That's what put me off the Anjan 2 and Nammatj 2
Hi, thank you for your comments and watching my video...yes absolutely and much the same in the Nammatj 2. The Nammatj 3 is slightly better I think as it is higher which reduces the angle of the slope at the rear, and only 200g heavier... Consider a Kaitum if you need the length. Here however in the Abisko, the separation of the inner and outer at this point of the tent is really good (Better than Nammatj) so I have had no issues with this at all regarding dampness or condensation. But as you can see I nearly always camp in very windy conditions.... ATB Tom

With the thinner fabric. Is the tent holding up well?
Thats a tough one. The tent stood up well but afterwards I noticed some small fabric damage on the thinner fabric near the front pole. I contacted Fjallraven about this and they were not interested. They offered a 3rd party to repair or to send me a repair kit to do it myself. Tent now sold long ago.. Thank you for your comments and I hope that this answers your question... Hey no bother at all.. Tight enough length wise mainly due to the sloping rear and interior height not great to be honest... Have a look at the Tarp Tent Scarp 1 if you haven't already. Although it's 218cm long the vertical ends make a massive difference to the real world length..height is pretty good too, but pack size is larger than most due to these vertical rods at the ends.. The 3 person version of the Abisko here will be better and probably only 200g more .. The fact that's its a little higher also reduces the slope on the rear inner wall.. I'd just go for the tried and tested nammatj 2 for 4 season solo camping. It doesn't need reenforcement as so strong.

Tom, did you hear back from Fjällräven about the issue you had?
No word at all for 6 days despite sending my email to two Fjallraven contacts.Then sent a follow up email and they got back the next day.. Offer Ed a free repair kit or ti send to a 3rd party for repair.. No mention of warranty or courtesy to say sorry for the issue and the length of time it took to respond.. I contacted them again saying what I would have expected but the matter was now closer.. Again no response. Obviously not interested so they are binned as a brand for me... Tom

I like the abisko lite 2.
There are only 3 things I don't like:
1. I would like the inner tent door better if the zip went all the way around.
2. The ventilation mesh cannot be opened.
3. The inner hight, 5cm more would be good.
But it is more stable than the Nallo 2, which I also like to use.
Here the 10 cm more interior height is great.
Totally agree on the zip issue, I prefer the Hilleberg design where you can get the door right out of the way... yeah the mesh on the fly could benefit from being able to open it though for me so far I have got enough air blowing through it.... Inner height.. I am prepared to take the hit on that one due to the extra stability it offers and stability is seriously important to me... Does this tent suffer from condensation problems in summer months.
Never really used it in the Summer, but it's very well vented for a 4 season tent.. Best wishes Tom

Definitely a great tent IMO but haven't used one.. I had a problem with the fabric on this tent so not sure if that was a one off or an overall weakness due to it being very thin... Hope that helps.Best wishes Tom
I have the same concerns . If I m not wrong I saw somewhere that thin silnilon is actually stronger than thick pu polyester. Silnilon does stretch and honestly feels a bit scary.i totally agree with u. However if you look at abisko dome tent that got 3 thicker poles than abisko they still use same 20d triple rip stop nylon.. interesting..
Btw what did fjallraven reply on that issue?

If im forecasting high winds on a climb or camp i always bring earplugs,, can sleep peacefully all night. Dont do this if you are somewhere prone to massive avalanches like everest base camp.
