For babies mixing doesn’t matter. For your “area specific” enclosures, I’d keep them as you intended and not mix areas of origin. 🐢❤️🐢

I say keep it separate. I think having separate habitats based on the continent the species comes from is more educational and realistic than just combining them. Maybe for a short while, but otherwise I think keeping South America with South America is better.

If you think the turtles will be better off in the larger enclosure, put them in with the caiman temporarily. You can always move them somewhere else later.

It doesn’t matter what we as humans find more aesthetically pleasing. In my opinion it’s all about the animals and I believe they would have a better quality of life living with the caiman. They have more space to roam around, fresh running water and a lot more enrichment 🤷🏼‍♀️

That’s hilarious. As soon as you said you were going to change the “pond” to something temporary I thought of the Rubbermaid 300 gallon. Then you brought out the 150. Those are great tubs. I used them for my horses. Oh! To drink out of, they didn’t quite fit into them.

  • @BigggRoss

I would say keep it the way you planned. If anything put the small turtles in Slinky's old pond area. You know the problem with the outside standpipe like that is that it won't work as your surface skinner anymore ...

These are the reasons an aquaponics system/s are so usefull.
In place of constantly needing water it's diverted to a planter box with an automatic bell syphon to flush back into the holding tank...
Keeping it clean and crystal clear just like your ponds.
It's cheaper, has more beneficial bacteria, pays you back in green's and is more oxygenated....

I think putting the turtles together, temporarily or permanently, is a fine idea. They don’t have to be separated by region to thrive because you create such amazing habitats for them that has everything they need to live amazing lives at the Camp.
Good luck Kenan. I know whatever you decide to do will be amazing for us and the turtles. Can’t wait to see the new covered pond when it’s completed. ☺️💕

Since you're planning on a dedicated turtle pond eventually and the caimans aren't a danger to them, I think it would make the turtles happier if you put them in with the caimans temporarily. (More spaces to explore.)

  • @NaNaTT549
    @NaNaTT549 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You have to think about what's best for the turtles, what's going to make them the happiest. And Imo they would be a lot happier in the caiman enclosure for now. That way they're not confined just to that tub, they can swim around and enjoy the nice flowing fresh water & if they so choose, they can even come out of the water & bask on land, something they've never been able to do since birth. Think happy, happy little turtles. Have a great Holiday Weekend!
Edit: I'm still watching at 8:00 doesn't look like they'll have much room to swim with the logs there. Or is it just me?

I do agree that it's nice to see animals kept with other animals of similar origins though it wouldn't effect how I felt about the kamp! I come from a biotope/biotype background so I love seeing dedicated setups to a certain region, even down to the plants and all. Seeing a simulated environment that could very well be seen in the wild is incredible!
P.s. I've been trying to get ahold of one of Fred's snapper hybrids since the first video you made saying to contact him on Facebook with no success. Do you know if there are any still available? To raise one of his babies would be an honor

Don’t mix, please. Also, is there a screen on the overflow opening in the tub? Because the fishes could swim into it and fall to the ground. This could bring predators to the area and they could go after the turtles.

I think the caiman may become (even moderately) disturbed every time a new animal is added. They are trying to settle in so I'd leave the fauna the same for a long time and only add more caves to the caiman enclosures. Otherwise, leave their enclosures be so they can settle in to their new homes.

Being a former zoo keeper, I like keeping species of same locale together too but I thought you said your animals in caiman pond were from different locales in Latin America anyway so why not? It’s only temporary and the well-being of the turtles as well as ease of maintenance should be paramount at this time.

As always personal preference and necessity will play the biggest role in that decision on your end, but my opinion is that you should keep things as you planned.
