Before 9/11 and the TFR's, we used to fly down to the cape to shoot launches from the air. We'd fly down to Titusville and hang out until "T minus 9 minutes and counting." We would take off to the South and at T minutes 3 minutes and counting, we would turn North, keeping West of the Indian River (intracoastal waterway) 2500ft, and at T Zero, we would be abeam of the launch pads and get great pics of the launches. Back then, everything was shot with film. We flew a 177RG (no strut to get in the way) and we had photo windows installed in the glass, large enough to poke a 210mm lens through. Those were the days.

I still have video and pics of the John Glenn shuttle flight from a racetrack at 4000' over Titusville. Truly incredible how fast the shuttle went right through your altitude. Those were the days indeed!!

One of the shots we got. STS-47, September 1992. Fuji Velvia 100, pushed to 400, Nikon F4 35mm, Nikkor 80-200 F2.8 w/ 1.4x converter. This is about 10 miles away. The original pic look a lot better than this "pic of a pic" using my cell phone. Hopefully this link works: tinyurl.com/yc936x8r

There's definitely a lot of training going on at KCOI. I got to do a low pass down the Shuttle Landing Strip a few years back which was really cool. Got permission to enter the area and was just told don't touch the runway. There was someone still the tower at Kennedy Space Center and they asked us to keep it too 100 feet but was still pretty cool to do.

I did this exact same flight about 25 years ago as a passenger in an old 1930's Stinson radial engine aircraft; not sure if it was the Junior or Detroiter, but it had four seats and was bright yellow. We took off from Cocoa Beach Municipal airport, but great experience for sure.

You went to the wrong airport in Orlando. MCO is more fun to land a 172. It is so much fun to land behind some of the big boys! I came in from the south east and had to fly over the landing 737 and others to land past the point all of the big ones. I have done that twice, picking up or drop off people! Love the information! THANK YOU!

Skydive Spaceland...my home DZ is located in Rosharon Texas. Several years back had a C172 fly right over the top of our DZ while I and several others where in free fall. Saw the aircraft and everyone started tracking away from it and I pitched the pilot chute at 4900' and was in the saddle at about 4200' with the plane roughly 1/8 mile away at the same altitude. Could have ended very badly for us and the pilot. Coast to Coast!!! now that will be an adventure. Start Safe, Stay Safe

From there you can go to slot canyon. It gets you close to the beauty of the canyon with a totally different experience. Come to San Diego and fly to Catalina Island. Land at the "Airport in the Sky", have a buffalo burger. Deposit your sand and water at the bay.
