This is why I want to get my pilot's license. I've spent my whole life on the ground and I've seen some incredible landscapes. I bet they would look even better from the sky. I took my first discovery flight a couple months ago, and I've been itching to go flying again ever since.
If you think you can do it, you can. -John Burroughs. I want to get my license too someday, hopefully I do. But sadly for right now I'm just a little 12 year old stuck on the ground with big dreams. But yea, go for it, I know you will get it.
I used to fly to Catalina all the time when the runway was in bad shape. Glad to see the the Army Corp of Engineers redo it. You can take a 30 min bus ride from the airport to Avalon
As a local Californian who has flown Catalina many time I still really enjoyed the video. The gorgeous island and that beautiful SMILE, what a combo! Even though the word like was illegally use to the point of distraction you guys still made a masterpiece. Keep up the great videos.
I'm sold. Catalina is now on my bucket list. I've seen it many times from the beaches while visiting So Cal and in an airliner but your video rivals any I've ever seen. So many commenting about the word "like". Who cares. She was excited and bubby and lots of fun ! I would have her onboard anytime. Spectacular video all around Josh......
What I like most about this is next to him he has a fellow aviation enthusiast who shares his love for the world outside of the cockpit. A pleasure to watch
The island of golf carts. Great bison burgers at the FBO (circa 1997). Great memories of my father and myself going to Big Bear for breakfast and Catalina for lunch.
Thanks for visiting the Airport in the Sky! Catalina Island Conservancy works hard to be a responsible steward of 88% (or about 42,000 acres) of the Island.
I am not a pilot, but back in the 1970s I got to twice ride as a passenger in a Grumman HU-16 Albatross from San Pedro to Twin Harbors. Camped their too a bunch of times with the Boy Scouts, great place! Nice video of Silver Peak and the rest of the northern part of Catalina, thank you...
Spectacular video, surely the best flight video ever !!! The take off is a big WOW, and the fantastic scenery ... and the super clear image quality ... oh man, this video deserve MILLIONs of visualizations !!! Many many many thanks for sharing !!!
Hey Josh. Thank you very much for a great video. I have seen this one at least 20 times. Its awesome to see 2 CFI’s enjoying the moment but not being complacent in your pilot saftey. I loved the chemistry that you and alisha have. It made the video super enjoyable. Im a private pilot and I took alot of great pointers. Cant wait to take my cirrus there. Thank you for the inspiration and again thanks to Alisha as well.
Man, I'm LOVING your content! I'm a student pilot out of John Wayne and I just discovered your channel tonight. I've been watching for a couple hours now; I can't wait to fly out to some of these places soon! Keep these videos coming!!
I'm lucky and live and fly in Santa Barbara. I've made the flight to Catalina a few times. Approach is an epic attention getter and take off is just as challenging, and fun! It's a beautiful and very interesting place to spend a day. Great video. Thanks!
Wonderful. I flew a Cherokee 140 over to Catalina a number of times but my flight instructor did not want me to land there until I had more air time. Thanks for showing me what I missed. I still have receipts for my flight instruction which cost at the time $11.00 an hour for the aircraft rental (wet) and the instructor was $5.00 an hour. Name that year? It was 1965 and the minimum wage I am guessing was $1.50 an hour. So yes, I am an old dude.
I love this. Thanks! When I was a kid back in the 70's we spent a week in Avalon on a family trip. Just nothing but the best memories. It was just a fun place. When I get my ppl it's definitely on my top 10 list.
Josh, I love these videos. You've opened a door for me that I never even knew was there. I thought about learning to fly 30 years ago when I was a teenager but dismissed it for whatever reasons. But after seeing your videos it has illuminated the discipline and wonder of it all. I'm definitely thinking about learning to fly again, but even just watching these videos is fascinating. I admire your discipline and attention to safety. Keep it up (Ha!) and I wish you well!
This video just goes to show : Surround yourself with happy people !! This fun and outgoing young lady's excitement and joy even though she has flown the place before made my day. Life is a party :D
I know, like, what you mean. That's just the way young people talk. In my day, it was "uh".....do you want to, uh, go to town. I'm 74 so yeah, like, I know what I'm, uh, talking about.
Been to Catalina Island dozens of time by ferry, always for the scuba diving. Plenty of logbook hours below MSL! Now I want to fly there. Great video. Thanks.
Great video guys! Not only was it beautiful to watch I enjoyed the relaxed banter. Although she's done it countless times, I love how giddy with excitement Alicia (sorry, I missed her full name) was while orbiting the island...like a young kid. I've been in that water but never flown there. Nice aircraft, brilliant flying, amazing video, gold nuggets of flying advice, tips and interesting banter. Thank you
Thumbs-Up #442 Monday late afternoon 9 March 2020! I have no idea if aviation has its equivalent of road rage or not, but you, and the people you interact with / show in your videos, are the type of people that definitely give flying a good name to. The woman you are with in this video is of the finest class to exist.
Many aviation TH-cam'ers completely wear out the word "epic". In this case, it's an understatement! Stunning scenery and excellent videography. I hope to visit Catalina in the near future thanks to this video.
The fishing off the coast on the west side of catalina island is really beyond compare. When i was a resident of socal a friend and i would take his 26 foot cabin cruiser out and spend 4 or 5 days out there. Really fantastic. Enjoyed the video brought back some great memories. Stay cool till next time
Thanks for the memories! I worked both ends of the island in the seventies (Avalon and isthmus). When at the isthmus (Two Harbors) we would drive to Avalon for supplies weekly and I got to see the diversity of the island. I would have to walk though a herd of buffalo some mornings to get to work. It was amazing. To go to the mainland I would board a Grumman Goose that took off and landed on the west side of Two Harbors. Sometimes I would sit next to the pilot and be mesmerized by all the cranks he was turning for the gear and trims. They used to fly out of Long Beach or San Pedro and it was always a fun trip. Now I fly helicopters in the Gulf of Mexico and the scenery is not nearly as good. Just iron islands sticking out of the water.
Was there several times on the steamer as a kid but most memorable was in a United DC3. Was there for the last of the original motorcycle races in ‘58 and before moving away, quite a few $100 hamburger flights in a Cessna 140. Good memory’s.
The week of my wedding, the wife and I flew out there so she could give me a local area orientation as a nice break from all the pre-wedding craziness. We hiked the same trails. One of my all time favorite flights!
Somebody give this guy a Netflix series!
Ikr
Not just this guy- she would have to be in the series too.
Josh is to aviation what Neil Degrass Tyson is to astrophysics.
👍Get a New “Mature Co-Pilot”...The Series Wouldn’t last into the 2cd Episode...lol🤪🥴😂
Loved your copilot's enthusiasm hopefully you'll fly with her a lot more as she always had a smile on her face.
WOWWWWW!!! What a landing!
This is why I want to get my pilot's license. I've spent my whole life on the ground and I've seen some incredible landscapes. I bet they would look even better from the sky. I took my first discovery flight a couple months ago, and I've been itching to go flying again ever since.
Then go for it! The sky's calling you ;)
@@jetblast5902 Trust me, I am. I'm just waiting to hear back from AOPA's scholarship committee before I start my training >=D
Do it! I always wanted to, talked myself out of it for years. I’m now a student around 35 hours getting ready for my solo. Soooo much fun!!!
Go for it lad👍🛩
If you think you can do it, you can.
-John Burroughs. I want to get my license too someday, hopefully I do. But sadly for right now I'm just a little 12 year old stuck on the ground with big dreams. But yea, go for it, I know you will get it.
Her enthusiasm is contagious!
She is a genuinely happy person, something that isn’t that common, really nice to see ...... she is a catch 👍
I used to fly to Catalina all the time when the runway was in bad shape. Glad to see the the Army Corp of Engineers redo it. You can take a 30 min bus ride from the airport to Avalon

Love watching people enjoy flight like this.

That take-off was AMAZING!
Your copilot is awesome!
65 years old, born and raised in Torrance, first flight at Torrance Airport, NEVER been to Catalina ! So thanks for this one . Great shots.
The clarity of your videos in 4K is amazing. I'm watching it on a 55" 4k tv. Awesome job.
Well, thanks for changing my evening plans!
Omg this is amazing! Thank you both!
The island of golf carts. Great bison burgers at the FBO (circa 1997). Great memories of my father and myself going to Big Bear for breakfast and Catalina for lunch.
Great memories of my mom and I going on day trips out of Dana Point. Last visit for me was about 12 years ago
I love your videos so much they look so HD
A camera-person's dream...The lighting is simply to die for...
Thanks for visiting the Airport in the Sky! Catalina Island Conservancy works hard to be a responsible steward of 88% (or about 42,000 acres) of the Island.
Another one for my "Flying Bucket List"!
Drinking game!! Every time she says "like" take a drink. Hammered!!!!!!
@Aaron Phelps Like, yeah exactly!
#shitfaced
You just know she's like from California.
I puked!!!
I think you could get drunk off of O'Doul's with as many times as she says like.
Great video except she is driving me nuts taking all those beautiful landscape shots in portrait mode!!
nice landing dude
I really enjoyed the Catalina scenery.
A wee stoater of a video...unbridled enthusiasm from the two of you. 🏴
Super video!! Thanks for letting us fly along!!

Thank you for the video - looked like it was a great time flying lunch / hiking / and a great co-pilot. Take care be safe.
Was so nice to see Catalina I got my ticket at KLGB. Spent most of my time flying out to Catalina and the area. Thank you.
Wow! I think you two really clicked. She’s a keeper!
Really nice video. Nice to see scenery and the two of you having fun.
Spectacular - thank you for sharing
Great video, Josh - and Alicia is simply a delight! Hope we get to see more of her.
It’s flights like these that really make me miss flying. Thank you for the experience.

This is why we love aviation. None of us would ever have saw this or just experience city lights on a IFR approach . Enjoy.....
I'm lucky and live and fly in Santa Barbara. I've made the flight to Catalina a few times. Approach is an epic attention getter and take off is just as challenging, and fun! It's a beautiful and very interesting place to spend a day.
Great video. Thanks!
I used to be stationed in San Clemente Island. Great Lobster diving out there
Stunning island!
I literally take note of all the awesome places you visit so that one day, when I have a plane of my own, I too can witness these geological beauties.
This is why I’m seeking my ppl. Flying to amazing places. Truly awe inspiring. Look forward to flying there someday.
Catching Alicia in the Aopa video was great! You gave us a double bonus nice job! On my plan when I fly into Torrance next month
Great footage.... WELL DONE!!! Amazing.....
Absolutely beautiful views from there I bet
Beautiful flight. Thank you!
every time you upload, i get SO excited! Because I know you are better than any other GA aircraft youtube channel. Thank you josh
That island looks like an iceberg, gorgeous! Great video

When a video makes you laugh, a lot, it's a great video. Well done.
I'v been there twice by cruise ship via tender, but never by air. Great video! Great cinematography!
I’ve flown over Catalina, it’s a place that I hope to visit some day - fantastic photography, thanks. 😁👌👏👏👏❤️❤️

Over 300 lol
Love Catalina
Very enjoyable video! Love seeing the island from the air! Then Trans Island bike does sound fun!

Sitting in my Hotel room in Vienna, having my ATPL written exams tomorrow. Watching these videos keeping my nervousness in check... :D
What an incredible place!
This video just goes to show : Surround yourself with happy people !! This fun and outgoing young lady's excitement and joy even though she has flown the place before made my day. Life is a party :D
Beautiful flight, I would LOVE to fly around something like this.
Wish I had a dollar for every time she said "like". Can't tell where she's from.😁

@@drewleevy5420 Yeah, I got that. I was being sarcastic.

How fun!
How is that she’s amazing
Gorgeous scenery and great aerial tour of the island. Thanks for sharing. Fly safe guys 👍✈️😊
had a chance to fly to kavx but was socked in with weather at the time...was always on my bucket list. Thanks for the wonderful experience!
thanks for the tour loved it
Alicia’s excitement is infectious. Would be fun to see more of her in 991 flying over other beautiful areas...in the West.
Unreal even the video is cool. Can’t imagine how nice it would be to actually visit there

I look at that Island view everyday on My desktop running Catalina on My Apple computer !
Your vids are always beautiful and stunning and a great adventure to follow.
I get the triceratops reference. The 1 time I went to Catalina i went by helicopter and felt like i was in a jurassic park intro 😊

Incredible video of Catalina Josh! I continue to be impressed. Also jealous of your production quality! I am trying to get there. Cheers!
Something tells me after the cameras were off, these two taxi'd off and flew in formation ;)
