That’s a big box 📦. Mine Came in as half that size. Good machine. Definitely hits hard with shading and color packing With different clients and different skins. It works different with line work. I struggle one time with a African American client. The needle was dragging too much. And felt like he was getting cut. Had to stop 🛑 and do a completely new set up with a coil machine. To do just the line work. For a 5 hour sección. And then whent back to use the pen for shading. Not a problem. Just the line work is not there yet with some skins. I payed like $500 for mines. Not a daily user of it. Still keep it in my collection. Use about like 5 times out 365 days in a year. Plus the connection in the back. Can’t find a wireless battery for it. So I have to use these unique cable it came with. I order a battery for it. And the connection in the back it’s different then most average machines. Nice machine. Clean 🧼 just need a few upgrades. By the maker.
Is it still the best or even worth is after 5 years??? im trying to surprise my brother with some top notch quality shit such as tattoo machine gun, needles and ink can you lmk which brands are the best… I would appreciate it thanks.
"I dont like machine. Like sitting in office. Feels like pen" all great points 😂 I feel like hes the type to pay 800.00 for an antique tattoo machine used by a pirate
Anrijs Straume Tattoo hey brother quick question on your personal opinion what rotary machines are out there that you know of that are just all good for solid linework & solid colorpacking, since i'm heavily into traditional style of tattooing I want to get my hands on some good rotary machines, I have the bishop 3.5 stroke its awesome for black&grey but a bitch for colorpacking for my experience using the machine, I would appreciate your feedback man 👌🏻
I haven't used bishop and I haven't used allot of other tattoo machines. I'm sure there some crazy good colour packer's out there. and I don't really do any colour packing myself, and I'm not doing any traditional, so it's hard to comment on this. all I use is - Fkirons Spektra egde , Inkjecta , Hawk Pen ,and Direct drive rotaries. To me all are about equally same with cartridges - for solid black. Something with longer stroke will be great for traditional.
J Reyes its alright I much rather use a classic coilmachine since I can't find the right rotary that throws line the way I like, it can do it but not my taste. I'm debating of gettin the 4 mm 1 for the traditional style tattoos, but the bishop is a great machine all around 👌🏻
I tried reading all the comments to avoid making you repeat yourself if you’ve already been asked this question before, but look for some reason I can’t adjust my needle depth.when I have it twisted as tight as it goes my needle hardly is sticking out which obviously won’t even touch the skin, twist or the other way and it gets even farther than it was. I’m so frustrated because I can’t figure out how to fix it nor find it anywhere online how to fix it!😢 help me please!
Hi Anrijs, what did you think about Spektra Halo 2? Alot people compare this machine to edge X and they saying its better ( ofc Edge X is awesome too )

Thnx bud. I got a pen and am thinking to swap it for a spirit. What is better for a black grey work on ur opinion? I heard these pens breaks inside often
Hey Anrijs, thanks for making all these awesome videos! Quick question, are you familiar with the upcoming FK Irons Spektra Xion? It's FK's version of the pen machine, just wondering what your thoughts on it are and if you will be picking one up to use/review?
yes , I heard and seen allot about new XION machine. I think it will be game changer ! I'm really exited for that release and I will make review about it for sure ! there's allot information about it on FK irons youtube channel !
Yeah I've been keeping up on all of the latest info, I'm on the waitlist for the preorders and am really excited to try it. I think a review from someone as experienced as yourself would be incredibly valuable to people so they can make an informed decision on their purchase. Keep rocking the TH-cam game man, I get excited everytime I see a new video in my feed!
dude i am a huge fan of you and your wife your videos are awesome and i love the accent im an aspiring tattoo artist im getting into a shop now to apprentice and i watch all your videos my favorite machine is the edge x ...what would be the next machine i should try in your opinion thank you very much man
if you are in the shop you should check with the people in studio what you should get and what they can recommend, they will be the ones who will teach you. and they will know more about what you need next. good luck
Does anyone have problems with this machine? I usually work with coils and I bought a Cheyenne pen. I feel it doesn’t have power, ink doesn’t get through the skin and I cannot really do a decent work. I don’t know if I am doing something wrong with the settings or the machine is not working properly.
Hey, I don't know about others, I haven't herd that anyone saying it doesn't have enough power. I think depending on your work / style it could be that this machine feels softer then most of the coils. I've been working allot with it and don't ever feel that there's not enough power! To me always good for anything - lines (3-9) packing black and soft work too.
if i have a halo2 edge x and direkt2 would you say this machine is worth the price to try? or would you think it would just sit around? my style is a lot like yours i usually prefer short strokes and no give.
I would say wait a little and get new Xion machine from FK irons! you already used to those machines. it will be RCA , and it will be more advanced machine then this one. check it out here - th-cam.com/video/ZTsHeqO6NfQ/w-d-xo.html
Anrijs Straume Tattoo oh don't worry I've been planning on getting it for like 3 years now. I've been following the recent progression and am very excited thank you for your input and you I believe are one of the top 5 artists in the world and an awesome person. I just know the Cheyenne uses a swash drive system and none of the spektras do I didn't know if you felt a difference in your working. Thanks again.
it is different yes , but I don't think mind-blowing difference. it's a good machine. The shape is something new , that can change the way you work/shade and approach tattoo. I think I explain about all in this video, I'm not good getting into too much details, works great this one and fk ones. I use mostly fk irons for everything now, but still someday I pick this up for fun. I don't think I will touch it again after xion tho. but only one way to find out I guess for you is to try. and if you get this and try then let me know here what do you think!
Which pen style machine do you prefer as a strong liner mainly and decent shade/packer i have loads of brand machine in rotary including chyenne thunder, inkjecta and fk iron edge x. I want to try a pen style without wasting money buying a few to test haha thank you mez
I think Fk irons xion is the one. I have separate video about it , you can check that out. Great for lines and really punchy for colour/whip . + also has option to adjust the give for smoother blends and black and gray.
Anrijs Straume Tattoo Hey Anrij i got the xion 2 weeks ago and i like it so far. I just struggle lining with it. As i am used to coils its a completely different feel but inreally want to make the switch. Any tips for xion setup for single pass lining? stroke, give, volts? Maybe shoot me a message. Best regards from germany
I wouldn't use any of them for all rounder myself as I don't do lines with cartridges, to me edge will be better as it's RCA cord so it's easier for me to use other machines too. great machine is - Direkt2 from FKirons , with that one is more possible to line using cartridges too (in my opinion) or use standard needles for smaller tattoos or lines. great all rounder.
Hey i got the new tattoo machine cheyene hawk pen, and it comes with a different cord and look less heavy and more thin than yours, definitievly better and correct all the problem that you are talking about on this video
Hey Anrij, Helpful and informative review! I was wondering which Cheyenne machine would you recommend for those who only wanna do line work? Thank you very much! Keep it up ;)
I think this or Thunder. thunder has long 4mm stroke and originally they advertised it to do lines and solid colour. I don't have much experience with that machine to give any feedback .
@@FamilyMartt 3.5 stroke is alright for lining. I’ve been lining with 2.5mm the whole time without problem, some artists just want it to be perfect all the time
Hello brother, I've been researching about this machine and it's good for permanent makeup? I see that SPEKTRA xion will be released, which one is better and can I work with them and make fine strokes accurately?
I'm not sure , I don't have any knowledge about how that works and what it is. - maybe just permanent makeup machine will be better then tattoo machine really . yes, xion will have different model of this macine designed for that. but I can't tell you what's going to be better for that job.
Dude you should read the manual, you cant just take the cartride with the pen turned on and switch it to another cartride, and you need to turn the jump start on if you are not working with the cheyenne power supply or using a adapter to do not damage the motor.
YES, you can switch the cartridges between. I been doing that for years. They don't recommend it, but I'm not a sales man and I show it straight how I use. if you are getting one of these you are welcome to read manual and fallow it. Also you DON'T need to turn on the jump start, it works perfectly fine without that mode on. and I've been using it for more then a year now, all good. so no stress :) Use the machine the way you like . good luck.
i can't really answer that. I do not press and dig all the way in, and I use grip to make needle come out less too, not all 3,5. but some artist's do dig for a gold into the skin, with long stroke pressing all the way in. whenever work's better for you.
Anrijs Straume Tattoo hey anrijs can u help me with how to use photoshop before we go on because watching your videos everyday push me on to a differnt level
Anrijs Straume Tattoo thanks alot anrijs is there any other way i cant contact u on a business perpose am form the bahamas and want to take on tattooing for the rest of my life but still need help
I don't think there's a real answer to this question. What I might think is best machine for my work, might be worst machine for some other artist, and other way around. and if it would be that easy to pick best one, everyone would be just using those machines... good way to think about it is - What is the best Car ? there's thousands of them, and million opinions on that. same for any tattoo equipment.
critical supply actually has option where you don't need startup cable. someone explained that in comments underneath power pack video. but I don't have thunder, but I don't use startup cable with this one.
i belive I explain it good why it's different. stroke / grip / shape etc.. I don't know what's best. all of them are really good. what's better depends on what you like and how you work.
CapcasikDU everything is possible. I personally wouldn't call this liner machine and wouldn't line whole traditional back piece with this . But I know there will be lot of artists who would use it as liner all the time. Personal preference .
I love them but I've had issues with them breaking though. One after a year, and the second one after just two months. same issue, it stops spinning/you can hear the machine but it's ''stuck'' I'm thinking something breaks internally. I usually run them between 6-8, I do work daily or almost daily. But it's crazy they are unreliable for the price. Wish I knew what I was doing wrong
Diana L. Ischy I don't think there's anything you do wrong . I heard people saying they break allot . I'm sure when you buy it , it comes with warranty, and they should replace it if it breaks down in few month .
Ugh yes I just found all the people talking about it. I already sent both, box/all the things the come with, with the purchase information. Hopefully it won't take too long, but I'm definitely looking for a different pen/machine now
i am worried about my pen going down on me. in october im getting the xion. gastons done it again. ratchet grip. adjustable stroke. adjustable give. cant wait.
No better or worse, both type of machines can be better for one artist and worse for other one. all depends on preferences and skill. I have a video - ''WHAT IS THE BEST TATTOO MACHINE IN THE WORLD'' where it goes in details about it.
I been using coil machines for many many years. But thinking about switching over to rotary machines. Anybody got any advise like is it easier does it take long to get used to.
Depends what are you looking to get. I think it's easier in the way that it works same all the time and it could be less mess with setting it up, especially with cartridges. rotaries tend to be lighter and less vibrations , so easier to your wrists and hands. that could be really beneficial if you do long sessions. I think it will be easy to get uses to , will take few sessions. but you don't need to hide your coils and straight tattoo only with rotaries , get one, try it out together with coil machines and see what you like it for and what you don't. I love rotaries, But I do believe that no rotary will be same as coil machine or will replace it. Think about it like Petrol or Electric car. both will take you from point A to B , but each will be different.
@@AnrijsStraumeTattoo thank you very much. Yeah I don't think id ever totally replace my coil machines it's a part of tattoo history that should not be forgot.
I would suggest to try some rotaries what you can use it with standard needles, that will be closer to what you are used to work , you can then use same grips / needles you are used to , it will be easier to switch. but if you will want - You can change almost any rotary to use with cartridge needles, just need to get cartridge grip then.
Hi Anrijs, thanks for sharing your videos i live here in saipan USA , i wanna buy this one for my brother in Nepal for nils tattoo ink so would you like to give me a site to buy this one .
I'm sure it will be good for any type of tattoos. but if you just want to do tribal I would probobly go for coil machine, what will line and pack the colour so much faster.
every week it will be something different I think. This Pen was favourite for few weeks around year ago, but I don't really like using it cos of the cord. Inkjecta and edgex are great machines what I use allot. depend's on what work really , I don't like cartridges for lining , so almost always I have 2 machines.
I wouldn't. I still use it sometimes. but it's more then 2 years old and used and it could break sometime, so if I sell it and that happens there's lot of drama then. best to just save and get the new one with all the warranty
Jessica jessica i honestly dont think any rotary is good for someone learning. i went through and apprenticeship and learned with coils. need to learn to understand why things do what they do. a coil machine if set up right and not running balls to the wall, the machine will have give. rotarys dont run of magnetic current. they run off of a motor which is awesome if your hand is trained. rotarys can tear the skin up very easily. best thing i ever did was learn with coils through an apprenticeship. hope this helps
So to put it another way if he was a OG DJ using proper turntables then trying out a USB plug and play Dj set (both do the same thing just the USB set is a faster setup) he would want to go back to the more traditional way of djing rather then the easy plug and play way ? Lol to each his own I guess. Kids these days a lazy and don’t want to learn about the craft before diving into it!
Im in love with mine! After 5 years using coils I switched to the Cheyenne pen and i feel like it's the best investment so far.
i thinck ttoo the best machine i have in my lifee

does anyone know which cable adaptor to buy to connect it to other regular power supply?
hi, i use start and stop cable with cheyenne thunder and minicritical. Can i use it with cheyenne too? tnx a lot
critical supply actually has option where you don't need startup cable. someone explained that in comments underneath power pack video. but I don't have thunder, but I don't use startup cable with this one.
why is it different from spirit and thunder? whats best for different purpose? And if anyone or all are versatile than how?
i belive I explain it good why it's different. stroke / grip / shape etc.. I don't know what's best. all of them are really good. what's better depends on what you like and how you work.
What voltages do you use with this machine? Thanks in advance man, always enjoying your channel ✌🏻
Voltage info is below video in description box
Anrijs Straume Tattoo Ah my bad bro! Indeed didnt read that, thanks for the reply!
It is possible to dominate line work with this machine?
CapcasikDU everything is possible. I personally wouldn't call this liner machine and wouldn't line whole traditional back piece with this . But I know there will be lot of artists who would use it as liner all the time. Personal preference .
Where do you put the INKK everyone leaves that part out
kato martinson please tell me this is sarcasm
Sapphire Keyes dude I’m new too this shit but I’m bouta order me sum shit offline what you mean that’s like sumthing you needs kno blood
IF i HAVE A PACEMAKER DO i NEED TO USE THIS PEN?
do you need the start up cable for any second party power supply other then pu1 pu2
I don't know about that. I'm sure you can read more about it in their website. or contact your supply company and check with them.
@@AnrijsStraumeTattoo but you have used his machine and used the critical cx1 in this video.. how did you do it?
Hopefully it won't take too long, but I'm definitely looking for a different pen/machine now
Diana L. Ischy I'm waiting myself for the new FKirons Xion machine so much !!! Hopefully really really soon !
i am worried about my pen going down on me. in october im getting the xion. gastons done it again. ratchet grip. adjustable stroke. adjustable give. cant wait.
@Anjris
For Japanese tattoo work which is better coil or rotary pen?
And which is better for vibrant colour saturation? Coil or rotary pen?
Let me know what machine you decided to go and what do you think in few weeks ! would be great to hear. good luck
@@AnrijsStraumeTattoo I will I have been looking online for the last 24 hrs. Once I decide I'll let everybody know.
Will you be trying the sol nova bro
YES ! I just got the machine. I'll try it for a week and will do video hopefully soon

so would you like to give me a site to buy this one .
hey, just google search , I don't sell machines myself, I don't know all places in world where to get them.
Is it good for shading and lining?
it can be good yes. all depends on your skill and preference.
Anyone know how much torque this pen have in mNm?
did this machine suitable for tribal design?
I'm sure it will be good for any type of tattoos. but if you just want to do tribal I would probobly go for coil machine, what will line and pack the colour so much faster.
thanz for the info...Im do various tattoo design but Im specialist in tribal...appreciated your advice very much...
Is this for both shadow and line?
Its for anything. Shading..lining...whip shading..color packing.. Does it all. Tbats why its 600$
Is this machine really worth it?
I think it really is. one of my favourite machines.
Hello does anyone has a powersupply to recommend me for a pen tattoo machine? Im kinda lost between all the choices
Eikon es300 ,420
Criticle Atomx ,g2
Which machine do you use the most?
mostly direct 2 and edgeX , Wayne taylor , but almost every week I change something . don't have only one machine what I use all the time.
So far... which have been your favorite machine?!? (Coil/rotary) 😁
every week it will be something different I think. This Pen was favourite for few weeks around year ago, but I don't really like using it cos of the cord. Inkjecta and edgex are great machines what I use allot.
depend's on what work really , I don't like cartridges for lining , so almost always I have 2 machines.
Anrijs Straume Tattoo yeah! So the best thing is to experiment with different machines... amazing! THANK YOU! 🙌🏼

The downfall of coils
Nice.. thanks for REVIEW
You sound like Noho Hank.
Great machine. Love it.
Would you consider selling? 😅
I wouldn't. I still use it sometimes.
but it's more then 2 years old and used and it could break sometime, so if I sell it and that happens there's lot of drama then.
best to just save and get the new one with all the warranty
tattoo pen name?
Maxine name? Plz
Superb... Bro
How match than machine
Im your big fan..😂
Meine Traummaschine 😍
is this a good first timer machine?
Jessica jessica i honestly dont think any rotary is good for someone learning. i went through and apprenticeship and learned with coils. need to learn to understand why things do what they do. a coil machine if set up right and not running balls to the wall, the machine will have give. rotarys dont run of magnetic current. they run off of a motor which is awesome if your hand is trained. rotarys can tear the skin up very easily. best thing i ever did was learn with coils through an apprenticeship. hope this helps
helpful
How much it cost ????
I don't know, I don't sell them. link is bellow, or check out in google or tattoo supply companies.
The Cheyenne is currently around $1,200 u.s.d.
Kenneth Coonfield tf??? I’m looking at them right now they are $300
They are 600 usd
Wow in AUD it’s $130
So to put it another way if he was a OG DJ using proper turntables then trying out a USB plug and play Dj set (both do the same thing just the USB set is a faster setup) he would want to go back to the more traditional way of djing rather then the easy plug and play way ? Lol to each his own I guess. Kids these days a lazy and don’t want to learn about the craft before diving into it!
