The media are considered a linkage institution because they connect the people with the activities of their government. In that way, they serve as a watchdog agency which reports on the various activities of our elected representatives.

I heartily agree with the criticism of "horserace journalism." Quite frequently during an election campaign I will be talking with someone who says something like, "Who do you think will win?" My response is always the same: "I don't know. Who do you think should win?" That (usually) moves the conversation onto a substantive discussion of politics.
Such a shame how true the last part of this video is 😬
