The foil etched Jin Gitaxias is the most expensive pull I've seen on this channel's booster box game. Buy Singles cause that does not happen often! Great video prof.

It's almost fitting that the last card in one of the New Capenna packs was Cut Your Losses.
I love the Capenna art and the general feel of the set, there's a lot of great cards in it and the pricing is low. I honestly feel like Capenna is a great entry point into magic again. Fun mechanics, good over all power scale, and the pre-cons are fantastic.
Man capenna boxes are well under 200$ now in quite a few places, just shows how lackluster the set is compared to neon.
only the triomes and legendaries for money this time here. i am having more fun with it than neon. the setting is more my style.
This is one criticism I have of these videos. You can't start with an inflated price and then act shocked when you don't make that much back. My LGS had New Capenna at $200 even for pre-orders. At that price point the box would have basically been break even.

I actually have started recording my own openings of collector boxes just to watch them back and see if I got value at the time, and I think its disingenuous to have the inflated price as my LGS will match most major online retailers, so they're selling Collector boxes of new capenna for $175.
@@RCMAM He uses the price he pays for the box at his LGS. Besides, most of the prices of cards go down before he gets a chance to sell and even using the inflated card prices, he still doesn't hit $200.

Thank you Prof! And for everyone who is going to say “But he pulled a Jin Gitaxis Phyrexian Foil worth $100!”, yes, but it cost him $270…plus tax. And it was a gamble, not a guarantee. If you really want that card, buy singles!
The fact that you some how got the best version foil mythic for almost all the best cards from kamigowa, it's crazy
I am loathe to admit that rather than listening to the professor, I bought a new capenna collectors box. Of my 220 purchase, I got 110 in singles. It was brutal and I’ve learned my lesson.
110 now. just wait a month and it will be 60.
Yeah, new capenna was brutal. I got a collector box and got 7 mythics total. I got 8 gilded foils, but they were mostly commons. It was the worst box I've ever opened

See, Kamigawa actually had really great value and cards. There’s no doubt about it.
Problem is, they ended up being insanely expensive because of the pushed power they provide.
I have not been anywhere such pulls with Kamigawa. Probably super unlucky. Funny enough I opened three MH2 packs today and found Urzas Saga, two fetch lands and another 11 dollar drop. At least Karma came back
It’s how they get ya. Sometimes you get duds, but there’s always that one time you pull a fetch and an Urza’s Saga in the same pack, or a damn monkey...
2 Cards are around 30$ and one around 15$, okay two of them are rares but hold on. 1 card around 7$, 2 barely around 5$ and 10 between 2$ and 5$. The expansions over the last few years look pretty much the same, some day one 30$ cards had a hard loss of value, some midrange cards rised up up a bit, if the set had 30$ card at all. But overall in terms of value, magic is in a pretty bad position.
I like the extra random packs portion. Throwing off the video length keeps me on edge for knowing how many boxes the game will gone on for.

The moment I saw the Cut Your Losses pull I immediately felt the pull of the universe trying to tell me that I made the right choice in not buying a collectors box.

Not for the ridiculous price of $240 when they are on Amazon for far less than $200. Yeah yeah not supporting local game store when buying online blah blah….but wait my local game store sells on Amazon….🤔

On pack #10 of New Capenna, that loose acid jazz turning cohesive during Ob Nixilis and sputtering out again was some of the best comedic timing I've ever seen. Well done, sir. 😁

Here is an interesting statistic I would love to see broken down: what is the % of the packs opened that "paid for themselves." Or: if you buy a pack at the store what are the chances it will give you a return for the cost of the pack?
Not very high. The whole box is what you need to end up with the big packs. More often than not, I've lucked out with entire boxes and did very well.
@@PtotheMtotheK Some sets are more swingy than others. If a pack has a 5% chance of a good ROI it will be easier to leave it on the shelf compared to a pack that has a 25% chance of being worth cracking.
@@zonimi somewhat true, but I'd still stick with expected value instead of odds of at least full compensation - a 25% chance of getting 4x the value of the pack is generally as good (often better, with how trading and the market works) as a 50% chance of getting 2x the value
None of my boxes because I keep all the good cards to myself so I am currently 0% up on my purchases lol.
Personally I do very well with Collector packs and boxes. It's the only product I buy anymore, simply because I don't like drafts and the alternate frames and foils are what I like for my decks.
Prof, admit it, those hour of devastation packs are from those mystery boxes😂
Kamigawa was my favorite set as a newer magic player, I know it was somewhat controversial but cyberninjas are so cool and I’m an artifact wh*re so : ) good luck all
the music you use for the booster box games is so good. It is drilled into my head and i have zero complains about it. especially ther one starting at 22:28 ^^
That neon dynasty box was killer! It's moments like that that make it hard not to buy the boxes, but I swear I'm doing my best to buy singles haha
I just upgraded 8 of my decks for $200, and bought a whole new commander deck for another $200. Just giving you and idea of the things you can do for $200 instead of opening packs
It was the lands that did it... pretty much every pack had value because of em lol
@@melvinrobinson160 I'm inclined to believe that ~$30 of lands were not responsible, but rather pulling the foil alt-arts of Wandering Emperor and Kaito + the Phyrexian foil-etched Jin-Gitaxias that did it... Since those are like $200 together lol

I don't think I'd heard those first 2 songs during a booster box game. Let it be known i LOVE how "bummy" they sounded, like they represented/reflected the Profs mental of buying a box for 200+ dollars of 12 STANDARD BOOSER PACKS!!! Made me chuckle. : )
I don’t crack a lot of packs, because I know, “BUY SINGLES!”, but I do think the mystery is entertaining, up until it’s disappointment. 😅 So it’s nice to watch when it’s not your money, thanks Prof!
So are there supposed to be duplicates after the basic land in those collector’s boosters? Because for like most of the neon dynasty packs there were always 2 of the same card after the basic. Idk why…
It would be nice if each set had at least one really good chase-Common and chase-Uncommon, like Dragon’s Approach and Deadly Dispute, just to boost average pack value. Makes those foil common slots feel better too

best tip for using buy lists is to never sell to buy lists
I've made _many_ lucrative buy list transactions at GPs over the years, so I disagree.
I just want to know how the Prof does it, since he cracks so much sealed product regularly.
Kamigawa has in my opinion been one of the most fun-to-open sets in a long time. Luckily, watching other people open them kinda scratches the same itch! Thanks for saving me the money, Professor!

Love your channel. I was hoping you could comment or make a video about Card kingdom's commander collection with your opinions about the decks. There are quite a few of them and the descriptions are meh. Are they all "equal" and I should go with my favorite colors/guilds or mechanics? Are some easier to upgrade to make slightly competitive? Are they competitive with Wizard's precon commander decks? Thanks for your time and passion for the game.

This is why I want a ringtone of the professor shouting "buy singles".
The first pack had me laughing aloud at how low in price each of the foil rares were. I remember when almost any foil rare from the newest set would be worth at least a dollar, and the drop in value is honestly comical to me at this point.
I'm honestly surprised by the second market value of the box, I was expecting to end under the 100 dolars value.
The trumpet fanfare ditty that played in the background absolutely fits with this set funnily enough! xD

I miss the old collectors boxes, when you actually got a decent amount of packs and always got some good value
Because of how good the list is this time, I would say that set boosters are a better gamble than collector boosters. I pulled exquisite blood and Sensei’s Divining Top from the list if that proves it. And you can also get the Stranger Things friends forever cards that have been made into MTG creature cards. Collector boosters have a way smaller chance of containing fire🔥 in my opinion.

I always regret opening packs for “fun” How many time have I opened multiple packs only to get duplicates of the same bulk rare… Yet, like a moth to the flame, I just can’t help myself.

I love to see your enthusiasm towards Kamigawa, I feel like this is one of the few sets that were made for the widest possible audience, while staying true to it’s origins.
The trumpet timing was excellent, and that pull in pack 11 of neon dynasty actually made me burst out laughing in how insanely expensive a card you can't even read is.
This is the first set where I'm actually interested in the collector booster treatments.

I've been watching magic for a few years, but Kamigawa Neon Dynasty was when I actually played a lot of magic, even though it was mostly on Arena. I'm not someone who spends a lot of money on cards, so it was fun for me to enjoy a set without spending money.

I love when suckers buy collectors booster boxes because they waste their own money and it drops the prices of the showcase arts, some of which look really good for this set!
I still miss the days of an established block set each year with a core to round out the quarterly releases. Product has gotten so over-flooded with releases, I am still stuck in a dungeon in the forgotten realms.... Kamigawa was so great a release year with 3 top notch sets. Maybe the Neon Dynasty can reflect that sets flavor in a new way. Thanks Prof for showing us the collector booster box, never had a chance to see one opened. Good stuff! 👍

Honestly surprised how much value came from both collector boxes. The past two sets have been solid value between the land cycles and the legends especially since Capenna is more like 200$ so that’s a break even. Much better than the horrors of the inistrad sets

The Kamigawa lands sure do help the collector boosters out. Almost all of them meet the $2 threshold (exception being that one terrace plains that I guess people don't like).
