    Videos like these are so cool. I've beaten Bloodborne countless times, but have yet to fully grasp the game in its entirety. It really is a piece of art in of itself. When you pointed out all the paintings and the possibility that Analise is Alfreds mom. I legit got goosebumbs. That's some pretty deep stuff. Thanks for the 'insight.'

      Thanks so much! Its definitely a fan-theory, but I think its crazy that such a huge plot twist could be made from little things like a painting in the background of a game! Obviously I take it with a grain of salt, but its fun to think about :)

    2:50 actually I would say Bloodborne was inspired by the 19th century victorian england. The 14th century would be the 1300s and still the middle ages. Yharnam is very industrial. This video was still entertaining nontheless

      True, but Cainhurst is definitely old, and fits that time frame.

    • @Rychadel
      @Rychadel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      True. I'd also add that when it comes to witch hunts and Lovecraft's short story it would be 17th, not 15th century.

      @@HaveButOneLife you have to remember that Cainhurst is long abandoned, the only living person still inhabiting it is Annalise. Aside from that, it's only ghosts, and blood-sucking beasts (who appear to be starving), so it makes sense that it's less developed than the rest of Yarnham, considering nobody lives there anymore and that the Vilebloods have been mostly wiped out

    Bloodborne is the most beautiful game I have ever played. It took the best elements of victorian architecture and grotesque designs and refined them into something truly special.

    i like how bloodborne starts with a sepia palette in central yharnam and have a black and white palette near the entrance to fishing hamlet , on the clock, signifying that is we will see the most old memory. The secret that the nightmare hiddens. A memory of a murder of a mother and her unborn child.

    This is super cool. And for anyone looking to the comments for more, the hunter in the c who gives you the blood letter is inspired by grove from vampire hunter d, which bloodbourne took a lot of inspiration art wise as well.

    Mans forgot the symbol on the art book is a copy of the brand mark in the Manga series Berserk because the souls games take huge inspiration from that series aswell having the creator of the games a huge fan of Berserk you know.

    Great video, just one point: Bloodborne is set in an 18th or 19th century style world, not a 14th century one. You're about 400-500 years off, style wise. But the reasoning is fairly similar, white remained a pretty "special" colour for a long time, even after the invention of more resilient fabrics and intensive cleaning methods.

    interesting that the word angel comes from the Hebrew word mal`akh, which translates to messenger. it may be a possibility that bloodbornes messengers are cherubs. this also reinforces Christian and Greek references such as human women birthing gods children like Hercules and Jesus, who are born in the same way as the eldritch children in bloodborne.

    So am I imagining it or was Maria a male in this concept art? She's wearing the same outfit, but she seems to have a more masculine figure, and the picute is small but it kinda looks like she has a goatee, but I'm definitely unsure about the goatee...

    A lot of these connections seem tenuous at best. I dunno, just kinda seems that you're saying things are related without any real evidence. It's just a series of observed coincidences passed off as fact. For instance, Nyarlathotep is predominantly described as a swarthy (i.e. more olive- or dark-skinned than black) pharaoh-type man, and, on top of that, his appearance is often irrelevant. For instance, Bloodborne much more closely adheres to the 18th century than the 14th, which just seems kind of absurd given the guns, machinery, and velvety high-style aesthetic. For instance, that French movie, yeah, there's a visual similarity; but is there any indication that the guys at From Soft took it as inspiration? If there is, provide it! Strengthens your point.

    • @NickolaiBoulton
      @NickolaiBoulton  7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      You're absolutely right when it comes to this stuff, I really need to cite my sources. Developer interviews, especially when it comes to art direction are few and far between, especially for a game like Bloodborne, unfortunately.
      For instance, with the 14th century inspirations I should have specified that it was references more to the Church's culture, architecture, and the art direction of such things, rather than the literal universe, which was a rookie mistake.
      As for Nyarlathotep, the creature constantly changes forms across all of the stories it appears in. I think backing up what I said visually with the painting shows the inspirations and similarities, at least in my opinion.
      Ultimately, you're right, I should put more effort when it comes to strengthening my points. This video was a pretty spur of the moment surge of inspiration and I had fun with it and that was pretty much all I cared about during the creative process.
      Even the mention of Beach Tube Worm needed the most work to be honest, I'm no biologist and don't know the real specifics, but the first photo that was shown was actually taken by me! So when I made the reach to Ebrietas I was like "OH DAMN THAT'S COOL I WANNA SHARE THAT" ha ha!
      I think if I am to do another video looking at art books, I'll talk more about the actual art, the tone, direction, etc.
      Thank you for such respectful criticism!
