For anyone interested, there was an exposition at the V&A museum in London that had some of the original pencil sketches for bloodborne. You can find most of them online
Interesting didn’t know that, thanks
I love you
Definitely want to see those.
ObservantJim like Armor said they are easy to find.
I wonder wat some of those weren’t in the artbook
@@KuroiPK oh for sure lol was just waiting til I got home
Welcome to comments, good hunter
A very troll filled and, gentle place.
*Gud hoonta
A Hunter is a Hunter, even in a comment section...
Hunter is not alone
may you find your worth in the commenting world.
Bloodborne is such an amazing game. I wish I could experience it again for the first time.
Well here’s keeping our fingers crossed for a Bloodborne 2!!!
Someday :(
@@AdamDuffArt I actually, due to the nature of the narrative of Bloodborne, don't want a sequel! Probably a largely unpopular opinion, but with what you can learn of the lore and the world, and the ending you get by consuming all three umbilical cords, I don't see how a sequel could be a worthy addition. That first experience of defeating Rom and the shift in mood from gothic to Lovecraftian story and world is so masterfully executed that I genuinely can't see it being followed. I'd love nothing more than being proven wrong, but it's a monumental task to follow such a tale.
I think it was Tom Waits that said "I don't want another drink, I only want that first one again"
I know it's an inside joke that Bloodborne is the "best game ever made" but.......i really believe it's ONE of the very best games ever made. >.>
I’m experiencing it for the first time now, and wow.. just wow. This game is amazing so far.
"Over thinking , over analyzing...separates the body from the mind"
and I know - the pieces fit.
I was not expecting to see a Tool reference in the comments. But I am sure as hell not complaining.
@@jarltrippin You musta' been high!
bloodborne is one of reasons why i want to paint the art is so good
Me too. Ive never drawn i. My life but after bloodborne i had to draw a picture of Vicar Amelia
@@Windir91 that's very hard to draw
Bloodborne's world is inspiring in SO SO many ways and the beautiful art direction is a big part of it.
You can tell a lot of work was put into making these characters feel like they belong in the world: designs like the wrapped belt around the hunter trousers as a means to prevent the spread of beastblood, healing by injecting the blood directly on the right leg, the many wheelchairs found through the city...its something so minute and yet it adds so much.
There's something so special about it, probably my favourite fantasy setting. Cant wait for ER
Wait, there was a reason for the wheelchairs?
@@86Fallowcp lmao yes! The yharnamites are injecting the blood in their right leg (just like the player) because its more effective that way. Its easy to imagine how that'd lead to lower body malfunction
Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Jaxtyn Arturo instablaster :)
I first played Bloodborne back when it became free for a month in PlayStationPlus. Got killed by the werewolf, didin't know how to get out of the Hunter's Dream and uninstalled the game out of frustration.
About half a year later, I somehow stumbled upon a video of a youtuber who was beginning to play a blind playthrough of the game (A girl called Marz) . I decided to give it another game. Two years later I have finished almost every FromSoft game, but Bloodborne still holds up a special place in my heart as my favourite game ever :D
Literally the first part is me, now I’m just trying to pass the game but it’s hard
I really appreciate your love to your work on channel. It always taking care of those who watching this.Thank you!
Man it's so nice to hear someone that appreciates Miyazaki's work like you do. I've never seen your channel, but I like your taste.
YES! I have been waiting for thi video! Bloodbornes Artwork is just such a masterwork!
PLEASE make an hour long version of this review! T_T
I love that you are as impatient for Elden Ring to come out as the rest of us lol, do you follow the reddit as well? Everyone has gone hollow over there haha
Lol no not yet!!
It’s funny, last time I mentioned my impatience for Elden Ring on a video, someone commented “one of us! One of us!”
@@AdamDuffArt We are everywhere... :P
Glad to see your love for Bloodborne, my friend sent it to me as a gift when he heard I never played it. Me being an artist, he was mad at me and angrily bought the game and sent it to my house! LOL
Omg you haven’t lived! You must play (just make sure to prepare snacks, it’s gonna be a long run!
@@AdamDuffArt Oh my friend, the second I put it into my PS4 I couldn't stop playing it and was blown away, especially by the soundtrack too! I beat it and the DLC within a month
What I love about content here is there's always something to spark an idea or inspiration or to get a different outlook or mindset and even if that doesn't work it can direct you to something to easily get you inspired and even if that doesn't work it can direct you to *how* to get inspired by that and what to look for. Help you make connections and that's valuable in teaching or communicating at all. Alot of people play games and alot of them are untapped or idle artists that can easily jump off the topics. It's not direct teaching but conceptual and inspirational and more well thought than you might see at first. It's almost strangely interconnected. Alot of qualities similar to most of my favorite art teachers growing up only with a bit more outright talent so it's easier to believe it's more than just talk. On top of that he just seems like a really nice dude. Good teachers are less common than you'd hope.
Great production, lighting, soundtrack, this is the kind of video that is easy to digest and enjoy.
Bloodborne is absolutely my favourite game by From Software. Miyazaki adamantly praised Lovecrafts cosmic horror themes and said he wanted to create a personal atmosphere that had leaked out into the world. That is genius, and I love it so much! I could talk about this forever, but I will instead say that I will happily buy anything with Hidetaka's involvement for the rest of my life!
i felt the same. thanks to him, i'm getting into kentarou miura's berserk and h.p. lovescraft's cosmic horror story. can't wait for the elden ring 'cause it'll be an open world which is my kind of games
I love to watch you whilst I draw. You inspire me and teach me to look out for certain things in art. Thanks!
I’m personally not an artistic individual, but I find great pleasure In watching creative commentary. Much love
I love how you covered this.. I was never a big fan of video games until I played Dark Souls 3, and then got hooked on everything Miyazaki has done. I feel like I am traversing through the paintings of my favorite artists and illustrators when I play those games. The visual storytelling is top notch, the man is a visionary and proves video games can be a high art.
I think this is the most inspiring art channel I’ve ever seen
I just want to throw this here in case you see it.
Vaati (bored by the wait for Elder Ring) made an art contest for Elder Ring fanart bosses. It's done at this point and some seriously dope concepts were made. While the whole video where he goes through the best artworks might be too long, there's a link to an imgur gallery of all the finalists in the description.
Just thought you might want to check it out.
Oh I’m all too familiar with Vaati - and his contests
I actually made a shoutout to him in the original cut of this review but I had to trim a lot out
I listen to him daily :)
I love you for making this video, and I'm glad I subscribed, but also happy that you see Miyazaki's work as art and not just a game. Bloodborne is a game very close to my heart I have never been in a game more away from reality then in bloodborne and also d2 (but more bloodborne) I found myself countless times being sucked into the worlds of Miyazaki, only to find out hours of later that I'm playing a video game. I love how dark and depressing the world is, I've never felt more discomfort in a game then when I first defeated lady Maria, and later found out about her lore. I'm absolutly hoping for a bloodborne 2, but I also dont know if the second game is gonna live up to the standards, but then again Miyazaki never dissapoints and I'm sure Elden Ring will fill up this void... Anyways thanks again for the video I really enjoyed it and cant wait for more! Keep up the good work :)
*Edit: I dont know if you know but Miyazaki's artwork is heavily influnced by berserk (a japanese comic/ manga), something that you should definitly check out, trust me you won't regret it!*
This is answer to my prayers.just came across your chanel 1 week ago.n now watching tull gameplay of bloodborn.and was waiting for your take on art of bloodborn.love your other tech on art of books.lovve ur channel
In the first room of the game you fight that beast with your hands. No weapons. Hands. Myazaki m*****r. I love this game. Damn
Really nice to see such love for the artwork.
I got this overwhelming feeling too when I played Bloodborne. The game's atmosphere is insane.
Bloodborne has the best art direction in a videogame ever.
This type of video is awesome! Keep this up!
Wow I just found your channel a few days ago and was wondering if you did a bloodborne video, and here we are.
Another wonderful video Adam Duff. I love your book reviews; they are very relaxing and inspirational.
Im so glad to find you channel, amazing discussions about art and game art. Keep it doing.
P.S. I dont speak english very well, just want say thank you for this content.
Adam.... that intro was so GOOD!
8:27 Don't know if it was deliberate, but I really liked how the camera focus shifted from your face to your hand while drawing on the air.
First in DS3 then now with BB. You are awesome and I am subbing you now!
Thank you so much for this, like this art book series just shows how much more I need to delve into myself and with mastering my mind heart and body and going through the journey because this is so inspiring
For you to bring this and how much heart you have when you express this just inspires the soul
I take and reach for different inspirations along the way but you keep pushing me to uncomfortable ones to move past my comfort zones and really use different perspectives to look beyond what I usually love, I really thank you for encouraging others for this review I deeply and truly thank you for how much you inspire others in this life
There's always something beautiful when someone can see the nature within artwork and reflect amongst another artist
Most of all thank you again
Let the hunt begin...
oh amazing book, now i have the game, this book, the card game and waiting the boardgame
You might want to check out Kentaro Miura's works as well because Miyazaki is clearly influenced/inspired by his dark fantasy settings. It might be worth your while.
Thank You Adam. Your story and experience is helping me understand some things that are very hard for me.
Bro I am learning to appreciate art because of you. Thank you.
I asked about the artwork in the background on the last artbook review for lord of the rings and got it answered in this video. I did think it was likely Souls related art but wasn't 100% sure as it is never in focus.
As much as I like the gameplay style of the souls series, my favorite series by Fromsoftware will always be Armored Core. I'd so love a full on Armored Core soulslike, Mecha is so cool. Likely a product of me growing up in the early 90's and watching Robotech, Power Rangers, and Voltron... as well as plenty of other 80's Anime that was brought over.
I have still yet to draw anything Souls inspired, but I'd like to do something with all of the souls inspired works together. I imagine Link joining the Darksouls knights around a bonfire, as well as Hollow Knight, The Drifter (HyperLight Drifter) and Ichigo from Bleach.
You'll have to end one of your videos sitting out by a bonfire, that would have been the only way to make the ending to this video better.
Sometimes life's struggle can feel like Darksouls, each failure slowly breaking us down until we're Hollow. But then we take a moment and look around, their is beauty in all things should you choose to see it. A moment of love can make our hearts race, the view from atop the highest mountains can return all of the breathe once lost climbing it.
And beating any boss in Darksouls for the first time fills you with the entire emotional spectrum all at once...
thanks so mush ADAM you inspired me a lot i appreciate your experience that you share with as this is a gold legacy
A great wholesome artist with fantastic taste talking about some brilliant video games
OMG that has got to be the most beautiful book I've ever seen!!! I want it.
Just want to say that your production values are on point! What do you use for those smooth camera movements? Slider? Gimbal? Tripod? Bloody awesome!
idk why but the bloodborne art book looks kind of like the Death note xD oh and just a small tip maybe try adding "4k" "4k art" "4k art video" in the video tags maybe it'll help with the reach :) and love the videooos
Wow! I was in awe watching this today. I never knew a person like you was out there breaking down art of books to the extent that even the most beginner passionate artists out there can understand. I thought the broken record played quite nicely in my ears. Thank you for being an inspiration 👏💯💯
God bless you and your family, man, thanks to this video I dive deeper into your channel and all I can say is, thank you from the bottom of my heart, there is no other way to put it, the honesty is beyond belief. Thank you.
You know the book is well loved because of the dog eared corners.
Very high quality profesional videos!
Looks they take a lot from Piranesi and Lovecraft as inspiration, wich why I simply love this work!
We love you too, Adam
you should compete in the dark souls art competition to Vaatividya!
I love how your going hollow waiting for elden ring haha, think we all are
I'm new here and I've been loving your videos. You do an amazing job talking about art, your videos really motivate me a lot.

Bloodborne is my favourite game of all time. I need that book. Right now.
Hehe, well speaking personally - it’s the best money I’ve spent on a book to date :)
Good sir may ask you if you're able to upload your stuff on Soundcloud as well, I really enjoy hearing the topics you talk about, and it would be utterly enjoyable to have it in an audio book format too
Thanks for this. Are you planning on doing the Elden Ring art books?
Bloodborne was like a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. I believe it even has a reference to The Old One in it. The mind breaking villain(?) of the series.
Bloodborne is so great, i platinum it 3 times.
One of my favourites artbooks 😎
you should really check out Berserk it's the spiritual father of the souls borne series
You are an inspiration for me and my art. Your videos are perfect to listen to while drawing. And thanks to you i now have to get a drawing tablet.
I just beat Bloodborne recently after taking way too long to actually buy it. A really great gameplay and artistic experience. All I can think for their inspiration is forcing themselves to read H.P. Lovecraft over and over, haha.
Nice vídeo, as always. Yoour vídeos helped me on improving my art and thought process towards it! In the past I got so frustrated with it to the point of not enjoying drawing, wich is the thing that I’ve been doing all my life. Now I’m studying 3D and 2D animation and I’m having a great time doing class and personal projects!
Greetings from Spain :D
Adam, first off, love your channel. Thank you for being a positive and inspirational voice for artists everywhere. The sorts of art that you are drawn to, are exactly the same styles that light a fire in me. I too have drawn a great deal of inspiration from Miyazaki. I have beaten, several times all his games. Sekiro alone has gotten over 300 of my hours. Before that magnificent game, Bloodborne, the reason I own a PS4 was my first true love. Have a lovely day, Sir.
Why in the world would anyone publish an art book on a softcover with a spine that will crack like a twig in 3 years
Your channel is awesome man thanks
dang almost a year later and this video still isn't 4k
Ohh man, I Also a big fan of hidetaka miyazaki, he is a great director from "from sofware" studio. I love how he created story for Dark souls 3 and Bloodborne. Not only the story he made and built every characters personality so strong. The environments from Dark souls 3 artbook are so stunning. I love your artwork ans wish you could participate to their project sometime in the future mybe :D
I’m very interested in learning more about the body, mind, and heart connection.
As martial artist I often hear of a similar philosophy with spiritual instead of heart. So I’d like to know what you meant by heart.
You need to do metal gear art book next. Upvote so he sees.
Berserk... they get their inspiration from Berserk, shoutout to Kentaro Miura
Literally just taking the a lot of the same designs lol
I love these episodes.
Well I’m very happy you’re enjoying them, thank you :)
Thats what I wanted
I think of Hayao Miyazaki whenever you say Miyazaki
Bloodborne is greatness :)
Can you do a review of Monster Hunter Illustrations 1 & 2 please? They have a third volume but it's in Japanese. I'd thought you'd enjoy looking through these books considering you love Dark Souls and Bloodborne but ultimately I would like to know your thoughts on them.
On a side note, I recently subcribed to your channel and loving the content so far. As an aspiring artist, I find myself encouraged to create when I watch/listen to your art talks. I learn little technical things when you critique art books. Truly inspiring & motivating! Wishing the best for the rest of 2020
Bloodborne is a masterpiece
The artwork sure are awesome and every praise you do too ! But the details aren't seen since every thing is single tone and very less defined with contrast and values like dull and flat. Is there something wrong with publish or the light setup while you making this video.. Although artwork sure is amazing awesome but they are not properly rendered/print kind of !
Thanks for making amazing info and viewpoints in all your videos.
I never knew that you love Bloodborne so much 😭 I'm going through your older videos now, and it seems you have a soft spot for it just as much as me 😆. This game is a big part of why I've started drawing.
Love your work man, you're an incredible artist, and even morr importantly a great human being. Wish you all the best 👍
Thank You for all your inspirational video & review, i am collecting all the art book by fromsoft's game (hidetaka miyazaki) too. Sekiro is the newest for now, hope to see and waiting for your review too.
A damn shame that the best game only gets a softcover
Even with an heavly fantasy influenced past, from love for Lord of the Rings, Baldur's Gate and D&D 20ish years ago, for me Bloodborne is so amazing and wonderful.
Even with those instable 30 fps. And early ages of loading screens.
Speaking of inspirations, from Artorias' DLC we got the hint from the Chester NPC that they were adding some ideas in the "Project Beast's jar".So it's about 3 years of development?it's quite long..
In the Project Beast and also some cut content and this aspect remain also in the final game, we can see that from a certain point they went from Gothic horror to a Cosmic Horror, just like that. And also how the storytelling is developed, both in base game, both in Old Hunters.
I've a huge backlog of several pc games, in this 3ish years of ps4 i played some ps exclusives (previous console was a N64... XD ), but only Horizon Zero Dawn(spent too much time on the photo mode) can make a draw about the feelings and the beauty of the world.
Also God of War has a general good amount of details, unfortunately the sky is a flat image and i'm not into the all forced-puzzle gameplay(for me).
amazing video. you should make a video on ghibli artbooks.
I bought mine in Japan and it is japanese version so I could not read it and could not find the artist name though I believe it's written in the book somewhere. Do you know who is the artist and if they are on artstation?
I don't know if it's quite your style, but if you haven't, check out The Last Guardian. It is quite a screenshot friendly game imo.
Monster hunter illustrations , by any chance In the future?
I see BB video, I click like!
Yes! My favorite game of all time!!
Could you do a review of the Destiny or Destiny 2 Art book?!
Best game ever made, changed the course of my life.
Hey Adam! I discovered your channel recently and boy am i glad that i did, you've given me so much insight already over these videos and i wanted to thank you. I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing the art of metal gear solid series in the near future. I know I'd be really happy watching that. Keep up the quality work and love you man.
cleric beast intensifies
YES! more fromsoftware! Bloodborne is still the only game out of the souls series that I havent played, never owned a ps4, one day though, one day...
You are missing out a lot....
@@TheMadGod Ill get to it one day, when PS5 launches maybe
Were these ever released in America?
I can only find them in Japanese.
Japanese artists believe that explaining things in detail leads to a story "not being cool." From what I've read.
Nice
Hi, does anyone know what the name of the art style that is used in the game series Dragon Age is? Not the style of the game but the art used with in the game, like Solas's paintings in Inquisition. I would like to find more examples. Thanks and Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
Is the Sekiro art book available in English? All that turns up in searches is the JP version for me
Adam: The pig's demise is the most...unfortunate
Me: *starts laughing*
...I've got the humor of a 4th grader...
the link to the art contest does not work anymore since google shuts down google+
Oh crap really!? Gonna have to ask Tyler about it (recording a BST today)
