Cavetown has actually remastered this is home (now called Home), and Devil Town. You should listen to those. Hug all ur friends is an old one but was never released until recently. Also please please PLEASE listen to Fool thanks
Hug All Ur Friends was released but it was differently structured than the one most people know. It was released in one of his old bandcamp albums. I can't remember which one sadly. It was also released on his channel. You just have to look in the right places.
I really recommend you the new version of this is home, his voice is much better and mature and there's a sweet new arrangement ♥ also its music video is really nice too! edit: devil town also has a new version with his current voice (yeah I'm commenting while watching the video)
okay so lemon boy is a metaphor both for the singer’s negative thoughts and anxiety, so you were very close with your interpretation :))! i find it heartbreaking to listen to knowing what it means especially after the bridge when the music builds up on”lemon boy and I, we’re gonna live forever” meaning he thinks he is going to cope with it the rest of his life...
I found it super nice actually, like folks with mental illnesses can get really fixated on completely fixing our brains and it's usually really unrealistic to try that way. I'm not sure if that's ever truly worked for anyone, and it's much healthier to accept those parts of your brain and learn to live with them, instead of fighting yourself every day. That's really the only way to heal at all.
@@sotired2245 I'm not sure if you're asking how the song is about dysphoria or what, but if you are... the song has lyrics like: "I'll hide my chest, cut my hair..." and "his hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet." Trans guys and girls too often go through struggles expressing themselves, especially changing their physical appearance and hair. The hide my chest thing is probably one of the things most pointing towards dysphoria though.
Surprised youre listening to this is home and not Home (the 2019 version) I fricking love this is home but Home gave me goosebumps when I listened to it for the first time!
Please do a part 2 (of course only if you want to)! If you do, I suggest these songs: - green (music video) - feb 14 - things that make it warm (this is a very sweet song) -jacks song (this is a song about his friend who died of cancer)
Devil town- Cavetown is super deep It talks about: Divorce, anxiety, love and more. It is my favorite song and there is 3 versions of it. Each meaning a different meaning. Its very fascinating and crazy good.
in the song "home", the verse: "often, I'm upset that i cannot fall in love but I guess this avoids the stress of falling out of it" is about the singer's being aromantic and sometimes wanting to have that happines that involves being in a relationship. also I love cavetown and his songs thank u for doing this video c:
@@meowmeowmwow I remember the trans flag one. That picture was posted when he was dating his boyfriend at the time who was trans. also about his voice, its normal to go through puberty and your voice changes a lot then. My brothers voice changed drastically twice around that age. I personally dont believe hes trans, but if he is it wouldnt matter.
@@meowmeowmwow Yeah I can see that, but I also take his songs about feeling dysphoric in a way that references feeling lost about sexuality since hes ace and i THINK bi. That's just my take on it as I relate to the ace part. That's why i love music, it means something different for everyone. I guess the main reason I'm unsure is because he said something about "Just cause i had long hair it doesn't mean I'm a girl", but that could also go the other way ( hes always been a trans man and having long hair before he transitioned didn't make him a girl). In the end if he is transgender he hasn't come out so i don't want to say he is because it might be touchy for him. If he isn't trans that's cool too. Its all about each individuals way of interpreting music. :)
Devil Town for me is what best describes summer depression especially for me, just like that blur that's moving past you as you're standing still and wondering what's going on and why aren't you having fun
If you're going to do a part 2 I recommend Fool, Juliet, Advice, Night Knuckles, Jack's Song, Hug All Ur Friends, Talk to Me, Feb 14, Pigeon and Poison. I also would recommend doing a trying to stan for Conan Gray, his songs are really good, I'd recommend Comfort Crowd, Checkmate, I Know a Place and the Other Side Edit: woah thanks for the likes
Okay I feel like this is the kind of subject that many TH-cam would try to milk just for views by pulling in people feom different fandoms but I like how you actually try to analyze and give your thoughts on all the things you see, it shows genuine interest and I like that a lot, I can definitely see the way you actually care for new music and just have a deep love for music in general
i appreciate that, and encourage you to see my favorite thing about making these videos (beyond the discussions, and my love of music/art) my hope is people who like something will watch my video about it, enjoy the video (ideally), then later watches a video i do about something they don't know, something different, and check them out as well and it gets added to both of our music libraries. :')
@@thethirdbill That's actually so cool! And actually really interesting and I should do that because discovering new things with someone is really fun even if it's just over a video
Yayy!! For some songs like Home, and Devil Town he's recently re-done them cause he was real young when he recorded those, so u can really see how he found his own style and how his voice has matured and stuff :)
Could you do a "trying to stan Daughter?" She's a really underrated artist who makes absolutely beautiful music and I'd think you'd like her :) Some song recommendations: Candles, Youth, Medicine, Burn It Down, Numbers, Landfill, and No Care
I think lemon boy is a metaphor for mental illness and how it effects your life and friendships/relationships with other people as (speaking from a personal experience) after my depression started getting worse it was more comfortable for me to be alone with my "lemon boy" than it was for me to be with my actual friends
I love cavetown. He is honestly just a wholesome boyo that makes music everyone can relate to and has such a pure heart. Honestly he is just an amazing person that so many people look up to including me so thank you Robbie for being so nice and making music to inspire (: I really hope Robin sees this video
I definitely suggest ten feet tall, everything is temporary, trenchh, big bowl in the sky, telescope, or snake and the prairie dogs if you make a part two!!!
Songs that Cavetown has remade: This Is Home (cover) (2018 Home (2019) Hug all ur friends (2019) Devil Town v2 (2018) Devil Town v3 (2019) Banana Bread (2018) Dysphoric (2017) Juliet (live)(2018) I'm sure they're are others but these are the one's that changed the most.
@@the-treviathan oh yea, well he doesn't know the context of the song so as long as he doesn't know that Jack had cancer he shouldn't be sobbing... Hopefully
Once my friend told me that whenever he heard the song Talk to Me by Cavetown he thought of me because of all the things I’ve helped him get through, and really that was the biggest honor I’ve ever felt.
When it comes to Just Add Water, that’s my absolute favorite Cavetown song. (Or maybe Talk To Me? Or This is Home? Or Hands? Oh gosh now I can’t decide). But anyway, Robbie (Cavetown’s name) has anxiety, specifically Social Anxiety, and I think this song is talking about that. He doesn’t want to do things, he’s scared to do things, but somehow at the same time he’s lonely and feels misunderstood. I relate to this song a lot, there were lots of times when I was younger that I insisted I didn’t want to do things because of anxiety/depression - hang out with friends, do stuff with family, even just going outside - but at the same time, being left alone all the time, not being able to do anything, was absolutely crushing and I felt so alone. But I’m lucky to have found friends who understand me, who know that even when I say “please don’t worry, I’ll be fine on my own”, I need to know that they love me and are still there for me.
please do a part 2! he’s redone This Is Home recently (now just ‘Home’) as well as devil town so you get to hear how his voice has grown. and for new songs to listen to: Green, Things that make it warm, Feb 14, Night Knuckles, Everything is temporary (sticks and stones), and meteor shower!
First looked at the title, passed it, saw it again, clicked it. This man isn't afraid to show emotion, and is so wholesome!!! I love this!! *he must be protected*
I took Just Add Water to be a song about spiralling. It's anxiety and depression fighting against you reaching out and feeling the need to shut everyone out, then watching your social life fade away and falling deeper into that hole. It's acknowledging that it's a problem, but not knowing how to come out of it just yet.
More Cavetown: Meteor Shower We’re Alive Banana Bread Calpol Sliiping Lately(yes it has two “i”s Another One of Those Days Taking Care of Things Talk to Me Dear Juliet Advice Self Control Feb 14 Telescope (i know it’s a lot, but these are my favs) Some more artists to react to as well(if you haven’t already): Girl in red Hayley Kiyoko King Princess Tegan and Sara Death cab for cutie No doubt(specifically Tragic Kingdom and Just a Girl) Two door cinema club Vampire weekend Jason Mraz Studio killers (Not really a “song,” but listen to Portrait of Tracy by Jaco Pastorius)
Tiny Potato Also Rocket Ships by Cavetown is a complete bop which isn’t really known about that many people because it’s not on Spotify but I would completely recommend it
* sees title * * gasps * * claps * * watches * * enjoys * These videos tend to be really emotional and interesting and I appreciate the open, honest discussion of music and how it relates to our humanity. And I love Cavetown's music. Great content!!!
If you ever decide to re-listen to him, whether on your own time or on TH-cam, here’s some songs I love: Green Talk to Me Telescope Fool 16/04/16 (Jack’s Song) Things That Make it Warm Juliet Pigeon Big Bowl in the Sky I’ll Make Cereal Hug All Ur Friends
Cavetown is absolutely one of my favorite artists, his music is what I go to when I’m sad or anxious because its so soothing and meaningful. It’s not loud, it’s simple enough to not have to think about it, but at the same time the lyrics are so meaningful and relatable, that you want to think about them and understand. I’m so glad you were able to experience and appreciate his music.
The song "Just add water" reminds me of a lot of the feelings I have where, I want people like to be around them, but I also want to be alone. Like that confused feeling of being insecure needing confrontation from people when I just want to be alone
Emmalemalo Love hi do we have the same brain? i get the exact same way. like i push people away because i think i need alone time but at the same time i want to be around people and be loved to the point where i'm kinda just ¯\_(ಠ_ಠ)_/¯
Fun fact: Lemon Boy is actually about Robin's anxiety, the lyrics "I pulled him out by his hair like a weed" is saying he just ignored the anxiety thinking nothing of it. "Like weeds do he only came and grew back again" is the anxiety coming back and "So I figured this time I might is well let him be" is saying, he just has to deal with it and live with it. ("Lemon boy" is Robin's anxiety") "Lemon boy and me have to get along together, I'll help him plant his seeds and mow the lawn in bad weather" is Cave trying to help the anxiety and over pass it. "It's actually pretty easy being nice to a bitter sweat boy like him, so I got myself a citrus friend" is him figuring it out and knowing he has to deal with it, it can be tough but sometimes it's easy (Bitter sweat) "Soon his bitter sweat started to rub off on me" as he didn't treat it enough the anxiety started to take over him leading him to losing some friends. "What if I run out of fertilizer? What if the clouds run out of rain? What if Lemon Boy won't grow any longer? What if beaches dry of sugar cane?" Is Robin showing fear, he doesn't want the anxiety to leave because he is too scared he will change too much if it does and doesn't want to be different.
Already made a comment, but hey, do you want to do a Cavetown part 2 ? I really wanted to watch you react to Banana Bread, Pigeon, Talk To Me, I'll Make Cereal, Hug All Your Friends... Haha, a lot of songs actually. Maybe just all his songs xD
please listen to green, hug all your friends and home as well by him please!! oh and also pls listen to anson seabra he’s extremely underrated and soo good
This man makes me emotional, ive listened to cavetown for ages, I've never cried to it, in fact I haven't cried in a few years, but watching someone else's reaction had illicted some tearing up from me for the first time in a long time
I know you’ll probably never see this but I’d recommend listening to all three versions of devil town sequentially because that hits so differently and I feel like you would have a lot to say about them
If you’re going to do a part two here are some suggestions: •Green (music video) •Hug all ur friends •Pigeon •Banana bread (remake) •Telescope •10 feet tall (underrated but I like it a lot) •Talk to me (Feel free to add more)
I would recommend to listening to Waterparks. Listen to High Definition, 21 Questions, Rare, New Wave, Silver, 11:11, and War Crimes. All of songs are so good though.☺️
This was the weirdest comment to look at because my name's also Kate and I was about to comment the exact same thing 😂 my girlfriend's gonna find this hilarious
YA GOTTA LISTEN TO METEOR SHOWER, FOOLS, TALK TO ME, And revision of this is home 2019 version as well as telescope and Juliet. VERY great songs also I don't know why half of this is auto corrected into all caps
I wish you would have seen the updated version of “This is Home” the version you listened to was from when he was like 14 (i think) the new version has a great video that goes along with it. :) Otherwise, it’s fun to see someone get into Robin’s music for the first time :)
Me: relates a friendship i've been battling over whether its toxic or not to the song lemon boy Bill: hm this lemon boy sounds not nice Me: w ha aaa t ?
If you see some red flags that the Friendship is toxic talk to them. If they dont understand and maybe try to get you down take a break. If after the break they are the same and maybe worse, then please think about leaving them. If they realise they're mistakes or anything like that then you can both figure it out together
so happy you did this video on Cavetown. I got to understand Deviltown on a deeper level now which is awesome. when it comes to other songs I'd recomend Green, Poison, Pigeon, Advice and Talk to me.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure "this is home" is about cavetown's journey to realising his sexuality, "I cannot fall in love" meaning he's asexual edit: to clear up confusion, I meant aromantic I just forgot what it was called and asexual was the closest thing I could remember. I'm not saying they're the same thing, I'm just saying they have similar aspects
@@manyfrogs He's asexual and on the aromantic spectrum. He has mentioned that he rarely feels romantic attraction (typical for grayromantic people). He has a boyfriend at the moment afaik, but said explicitly that he still identifies as being on both the asexual and aromantic spectrum. I really like seeing him be successful in the indie scene because it's so rare that a musician is out as a-spec.
I really love cavetown .Robbie’s voice is great and the songs are always so meaningful. I know I’ve said it before but I think you should try to stan Dodie. Her songs are also a lot like this they have a deep meaning which definitely trigger emotions happy or sad. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
At the end of boys will be bugs when he raises the pitch of his voice, and he said that it shows the immaturity and how he’s still just a kid... yeah all I could think about is at the end of nightmare before christmas when oogie boogie dies and it switches from his voice to all the bugs and it’s super high pitched so it sounds like multiple things talking. That’s what the end of boys will be bugs reminds me of. Since oogie boogie is made of bugs and that audio and the end of the song sound similar.
Whenever I hear boys will be bugs I cry, as soon as I found out about that song I told my friend and we spent hours or maybe days singing it. Hearing it brings those memories back. Thank god we are still buddies.
I definitely recommend the band: Studio Killers I absolutely love them and some songs i’d say some of their best songs would be Jenny, Eros and Apolo, Ode to the bouncer, Friday night gurus, All men are pigs and Party like it’s your birthday.
I just wanna hear this man analyze every Cavetown song. He’s putting all the feelings into words! I wish I was able to analyze stuff like this! That’s a whole ass talent right there.

Hug All Ur Friends was released but it was differently structured than the one most people know. It was released in one of his old bandcamp albums. I can't remember which one sadly. It was also released on his channel. You just have to look in the right places.
@@Rainn420 I just remember the one he recorded with him and the ukulele
@@carterulery That's the one I'm talking about lmao.
@@Rainn420 that's not really released its more like a demo but yeah
I like the original devil town much more
I really recommend you the new version of this is home, his voice is much better and mature and there's a sweet new arrangement ♥ also its music video is really nice too!
edit: devil town also has a new version with his current voice (yeah I'm commenting while watching the video)
agree!!! i love that picture book I'd love to own one it's so beautiful and awesome
Omg yesh
Yes i really hope hes does a part 2 with the new versions

Hello my fellow stay

WAIT HE WAS 13?????
okay so lemon boy is a metaphor both for the singer’s negative thoughts and anxiety, so you were very close with your interpretation :))! i find it heartbreaking to listen to knowing what it means especially after the bridge when the music builds up on”lemon boy and I, we’re gonna live forever” meaning he thinks he is going to cope with it the rest of his life...
Maybe trying to stan Mother Mother? They're a really cool band

You dont understand how much this mean being a transgender youth thank you❤❤❤❤❤❤
How about dysphoria? The song, I mean.
As someone who's both trans and ace it's the ultimate comfort song! God Cavetwon is so good
@@sotired2245 I'm not sure if you're asking how the song is about dysphoria or what, but if you are... the song has lyrics like: "I'll hide my chest, cut my hair..." and "his hair's a mess and he doesn't know who he is yet." Trans guys and girls too often go through struggles expressing themselves, especially changing their physical appearance and hair. The hide my chest thing is probably one of the things most pointing towards dysphoria though.
I literally said “Don’t cry!” out loud and my sister looked at me weird lmao
Surprised youre listening to this is home and not Home (the 2019 version) I fricking love this is home but Home gave me goosebumps when I listened to it for the first time!

Devil town- Cavetown is super deep
It talks about: Divorce, anxiety, love and more. It is my favorite song and there is 3 versions of it. Each meaning a different meaning. Its very fascinating and crazy good.
Limitd Orbitz one of my favourite songs :)
Fun fact: the tree falling in lemon boy was an accident but it looked cool so they kept it in
Damn, I never knew that!!
Man, that's kinda cool!
This is actually proven by the behind the scenes of the music video.
it almost fell on robin!
in the song "home", the verse:
"often, I'm upset
that i cannot fall in love
but I guess
this avoids the stress of falling out of it"
is about the singer's being aromantic and sometimes wanting to have that happines that involves being in a relationship.
also I love cavetown and his songs thank u for doing this video c:
mipitch jen Wait is cavetown trans?
Ellie Paige he’s not

When he started crying during This Is Home? I felt that.

For some songs like Home, and Devil Town he's recently re-done them cause he was real young when he recorded those, so u can really see how he found his own style and how his voice has matured and stuff :)

I think lemon boy is a metaphor for mental illness and how it effects your life and friendships/relationships with other people as (speaking from a personal experience) after my depression started getting worse it was more comfortable for me to be alone with my "lemon boy" than it was for me to be with my actual friends
seeing a grown man nearly cry to a song written by a 15 year old is everything i could've hoped for in this video

When you started crying to This Is Home...
I felt that-
It’s my favourite song ever 🥺😣
Yesss just add water is so underrated
I’ve never seen him clarify what anxiety he had, this is interesting to know thank u

I took Just Add Water to be a song about spiralling. It's anxiety and depression fighting against you reaching out and feeling the need to shut everyone out, then watching your social life fade away and falling deeper into that hole. It's acknowledging that it's a problem, but not knowing how to come out of it just yet.

If you see some red flags that the Friendship is toxic talk to them. If they dont understand and maybe try to get you down take a break. when it comes to other songs I'd recomend Green, Poison, Pigeon, Advice and Talk to me.
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure "this is home" is about cavetown's journey to realising his sexuality, "I cannot fall in love" meaning he's asexual
edit: to clear up confusion, I meant aromantic I just forgot what it was called and asexual was the closest thing I could remember. I'm not saying they're the same thing, I'm just saying they have similar aspects
@UC6eg_WyvdNDQsVuMY-pNU3g yess I forgot what it was called and that was the closest thing to it I could remember. thank you for correcting me :)
Aromantic
Sam A Is he trans, I thought maybe he hinted at it in his music and tried to research it but found nothing.
@@TheSnowBallet I was just saying that "I cannot fall in love" doesn't make you asexual, more likely aromantic but it's cool to know I suppose :)
