Just as a storm can be upgraded from a depression to a tropical storm to a hurricane, it can be downgraded. And downgrades happen fairly rapidly once the system moves on land. A tropical depression is the weakest of of the cyclones. It eventually becomes a remnant low. They’re all low pressure systems but how and where they form define their characteristics. Just like how a nor’easter is a cyclone.. it is just born in a different region so brings different form of weather.
