Great job restoring a classic rig. I love all the drive train upgrades for more power. The cab interior turned out great. All and all an awesome build!
That's what makes this a cool build. I saw the Toyota Tacoma version of this at the auto show in NYC. I think Toyota could pick off van buyers if they made a factory version of this one. Maybe hire this guy as a product developer.
My man just casually droppin' that he converted the entire interior, including airbags(?!?), like no big deal. Holy cow. I'd watch a ten hour video on this truck.
I remember when I was a kid in the 1980s, you had to import the Toyota RVs from Japan and Europe. This Overlander looks incredible. If Toyota were to build something similar to this, Toyota would dominate the Overlander market.
Wow great job. In 1986 I flew from Anchorage Alaska to San Fran and then traveled to the Sunrader factory in the Napa Valley and picked one up and drove in back to Anchorage up the Alcan Highway. Great little camper.
This is a really cool remodel. In the late 1980s, my parents almost bought a used Dolphin (probably a 1986). It was being sold by an older gentleman near us, and it was in pristine condition. While that 22R was a solid motor and there are so many stories of people turning over the odometer more than once, my dad felt it was underpowered for the hills. My parents wanted to go across the country in it, including through the Rockies.
I had a new ‘85 Toyota Dolphin, and crossed the country in it four or five times. I had it for 4 years, wish I had kept it. It did lug down in the mountains, but interstates are made such that I seldom had to downshift to make the grades. It was a manual shift, so was better than the auto transmission.
I had a 1991 Toyota 4x4 pickup had a 22RE when I bought it had 200k for $3000 on it I drove it another 120k. Engine had some bad oil leaks ran good, so I did a engine swap with a remanufactured. The one I got was not as good as the original. I should have just resealed the engine and kept driving the old engine. I sold the truck in 2015 for $3000 same price I paid for it.
My first thought was "I'd slap a new power train if I were going to do all that" First thing you said, nice! Well maybe not first but you didn't just make it look awesome you made it a unique work of automotive art AND it's practical.
No idea why this was recommended to me, but I like the build very much. 1 as I'm a huge Toyota fan, and I love camping and adventuring. This build is the best of both worlds.
i bought a ford f-350 low mile diesel,4 wd,crew cab in perfect condition with a service body on it for 21k-did some up grades-for 3k,(air bags, emission delete, fixed an oil leak)--bought me a perfect condition high end fully equip camper (gen set,ac,etc) for 11k--i could live in it the rest of my life--all weather camper
I will take this over 45 feet RV. You can go far off road and sleep in magical places while you have to sleep at RV concrete parking lot with that big RV ROFL.
Very clean build. Perhaps a little too high as far as driving convenience goes but that's just my opinion. The fact that you used a molded fiberglass shell says a lot. Doesn't get better than that. To say this politely, this puts pretty much every production unit in this class to shame. I certainly hope the work involved in this project was actually marketable. Bravo!
Right, too top heavy for real off roading and would be a dog up hills, especially with dually wheels and a 3.4 with 160k on it. Reliable motor but not suitable for that weight imo. Check out the Toyota World Runners channel. They look like they may tip in theirs doing some intermediate trails and its a smaller, shorter rig than this one.
My mom gave me a86 Toyota 1 ton dually w tag axle motor home. Incredibly slow it was, took miles to get up to 60 mph. Incredibly clean though
Awesome mom. Mine gave me debt and trauma lol
I can only imagine how long it took for your re-build. It was well worth the effort, beautiful job!
Great rig no side hilling I would guess
Great job restoring a classic rig. I love all the drive train upgrades for more power. The cab interior turned out great. All and all an awesome build!
SWEET ride Jacob. Best Sunrader rebuild I’ve seen on YT. If I was a few years closer to retirement I would be looking to make a deal on it. Well done!
Thank you for the kind words! So many hours into this build!
@@costaricaoverlanding How much for something like that?
I love how you retro fit all the Tacoma stuff inside. Super clean rig! 🤙🏼

That’s a beauty! Lots of quality efforts were put into her😍 She looks ready for many excursions ahead
Great job with all the upgrades.
Exceptional camper conversion, Probably the very best that I have seen.
This, this is art in motion. Great job!
I HIT THE LOTTERY I'LL BE CALLING
Probably the coolest 1-2 person rig I've ever seen.
That looks great. Love the Old yet modern design.
Thank you! Sharkdog paints knocked it out of the park!
My man just casually droppin' that he converted the entire interior, including airbags(?!?), like no big deal. Holy cow. I'd watch a ten hour video on this truck.
That is the coolest camper I've ever seen. Great job!
That is one very loaded truck 🛻! Thank you sharing your beautiful build. ❤
You did a great job on this one! Top notch for sure! Absolutely love the rig!
It’s super nice. Feels really cozy inside.
Nice work!
This is top notch! Especially the power train swap. Lots of hours & sweat equity. So worth the end result.

Really, really nicely done. The Taco swap into the truck was done really well. Enjoy it!!

What a great rig, thanks for sharing!
Very cool set up.👍👍👍

Absolutely well done!!
That is one bad bad rig!!! Love it man!
Excellent. 5 stars.
This is what a Toyota Sunrader should be, if they still made them. Well Done.
Awesome build
Beautiful work.
Absolutely beautiful!

Very nice like what you have done with it 🤙🏾Aloha
Nice looking truck great job looks great
Solid truck these engines are bulletproof 👍
1:16 when you hire Michael J Fox to be your camera operator...
Hell of a rig! 5VZ FE is bullet proof. I just sold my 1st gen taco that had 320k on it whwn I sold it!

You definitely have the passion for that truck. Nice job!
Nice ride!!
Very nice mix of old school and new tech. I'd drive it.

Nice Job !! 👍
85 k is very reasonable !!
Thank you!
That's a damn dream rig right there.
Freakin AWESOME 👏 GOD BLESS you and your skills
No window blinds for privacy is a huge oversight for what is surely a 200 thousand dollar build.
built out just enough to be customizable to the eventual new owner....
Great job. Very nice.
Man that thing is NICE!
I am sooo ready to retire and travel in something like that!
Very well done. The only thing I would add is air conditioning. Great video!
Nice. I have the same engine in my 97 4Runner. It just keeps going.
Very very nice, I want one of those! :)
Crazy that it has airbags now, sweet!
Sir please create more video for this your vanlife experience. I love what did you d to your sunrader
Men do amazing things
This is a very nice rig.

That's a nice house 💯.
Very cool rig
Much better than a van and everybody wants one!
I will take this over 45 feet RV. You can go far off road and sleep in magical places while you have to sleep at RV concrete parking lot with that big RV ROFL.
Simply, that’s just bad ass
Cool set up
OMG I love it. It's beautiful. I want one done up just the same except maybe with a 1UZ in it.
That's pretty cool.
Very cool. I love it.
That's really nice!

Sweet truck
Very nice. Cant wait for the TacoZilla to come out.
Awesome truck
Beautiful
Nice weekend truck.

Yeah, the height of the lift doesn't really add much more clearance. It looks like it does tho.
for 85 should be gold plated

Yes, it does get better. Carbon fiber is lighter and stronger.
way too high! otherwise, insane!
Baddass dude!
I'll take it. Seriously, my perfect home on wheels
Colorado! 👍
Good job
