The '67 Z28 302 was rated 290hp and 290 torque (not 209). They were difficult to launch because of LACK of low end grunt. The muncie was a 2:20 low.

My father had 67 in gold color like the one you shown; it had bench sits; looked like a family car; but it was a SS with the 396; that car had power and my personal opinion looked nicer then the 66

I had a 66 396 one owner 4 speed in 73 I bought for $595.loved it but no contest, would take the Z/28.They were pushing well over 400 horsepower and handled way better than most any American car

Nasty of Chevy to detune the SS396 base engine to 310 hp in 67 and continue to advertise 325 hp standard. I'm looking at one of their 67 ads as I write this. I got my license in 66, spent all Friday and Saturday night dragging main for years. What you may not realize is the GTO, SS396 and Roadrunner were pretty much the only big block muscle cars people actually bought. GTXs, 442s, Fairlane GTAs and such were seldom seen.

I'd have to go with the Chevelle, I prefer the mid size cars over the pony cars, I respect both cars though. Keep up the great work guys.

Me too. I'm a Mopar guy though so I'd rather have a Charger, Roadrunner etc. than a Cuda or Challenger. But I'll take the 396/375 Chevelle...although the 67 Z28 is a beautiful car. Those 302's would scream too. They made alot of power for being such a small displacement. Definitely way more than the advertised 290 hp

Never knew you couldn't get the L78 396/375 in a 67 Chevelle as a RPO. I wonder why that was. In that case I'll take the Z28. A 310 horse 396? Meh.....You couldn't get the 425 horsepower L72 427 in the full size cars in 67 either. The 385 horse 427 was the top option in 67 only...but in 66 and 68-69 you could get the L72 427/425hp. I wonder why Chevy got stingy with their top two big blocks in 67 only

I love them both, and won't mention the fact you used the '68 Camaro several times here, when depicting the '67. It's kind of a shame that the Camaro stole a lot of the attention away from the Chevelle starting in '67 and continuing to this day. The Chevelle though stole a lot of attention away from the Impala starting in 1964. As far as I'm concerned, the Chevelle/Malibu basically died with the '72. '73 on, forget it. After the '68 (not '69 to be clear) my interest in the Camaro goes to the 3rd gen Z28 & IROC '82-'92 years. They were the closest the Camaro would ever get again to the '67 & '68. The '93-'02 Camaro is one I'm indifferent on. The Camaro was only revived in 2009 because they were forced to because of the Mustang and Challenger. The 2010 model was meant to be a "modern" '69, and sold very well. The styling was polarizing though, with many people seeing it as a freaky, grotesque take on the '69. In my own opinion, they corrected that with the 6th gen model in 2016, except for the 'chop top' roofline. Oh well. They fixed the front and rear ends as well as making it sleek on the sides. What I like best about the 6th gen is that it definitely looks like a Camaro, but has it's own distinctive look. It has a 1st gen "flavor" but not trying to 'copy' it. Unfortunately, sales of the Mustang and Camaro have been down in recent years, with the Camaro likely going away again with the '23 model.

the Z28 hands down, the high value is nice but putting that aside the Chevelle is big and slow, Camaro is sexy and fast! although those big back seats came in handy back in the day the fold down rear seat option for the Camaro worked out pretty well several times!

Typically I prefer bigger cars but I'm taking the Z28 in this one. The 67-69 Z28 is one of my favorite Chevy's ever made...particularly the 69. 1967 was kind of a weird year for Chevy. They didn't offer the 396/375 or the 427/425 that year like they did in 1966. But both engines were back as RPO options in 1968-69

67 was the biggest year ever for Chevrolet #1 Best SS Chevelle of all times #1 L-79 Nova, priceless gem #1 Corvette stands alone in performance & beauty & another high ranker that year was the one year body style SS Impala & first year introducing the new body style P/U . Yep 1967 was A great year in history for Chevrolet

I prefer the '67 Chevelle's styling over the '66 but I love them both. I was surprised to hear the L78 396 wasn't a factory installed option in '67. Sure seems to be a lot of them out there. I watched a dyno test of a stock, original Z/28 302 engine, factory rated at 290 HP. It made 365 HP.. No wonder the blue oval guys were shaken when the Z/28 was introduced.

The 67 chevelle SS was available with 3 396’s 325 hp 350hp and 375hp. My father owns a numbers matching 350hp chevelle!

      67 Chevelle SS396 ;L78 375 HP from the factory
I saw several cars at dealerships with the L78 396 375 HP on the showroom floor option was on the window sticker, with all. due respects, you guys are WRONG.

He actually is right about the L78 not being in the brochures though in 67. The L72 427 wasn't listed as an option in the full size Chevy's in 67 either but it could be special ordered

Some of the pictures they are showing are 68 Z28’s also. 67 is the only one with the small vent windows on the door and 68 and up did not.

Hi You Know It, you are correct, sometimes the guys in production/editing will show a model that may be a year early or a year late. It is generally MY specific, thanks for the comments

Great vids! Love the channel! The 302 had 290 ft. lb. of torque, not 209, although both numbers were very underrated.

A good set of valve springs and it will spin well over 8000 RPM's and I have done 8000 RPM hole shots with a 1969 Z28 bigger journal crank than the 1967 302 engine!!! 2022

I like the 1967 Camero Z/28 vs 1967 Chevelle ss 396 both were great cars back in the day . My friend bought a new 1967 Z/28 and switched engine to a 327 lot faster ,also another friend had that 1967 Chevelle 396 but both those cars could not beat my 1961 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 390/401 hp. We raced 3-4 nights a weak on Telegraph rd in west side of Detroit .

WRONG KEMOSOBY !! Bought mine brand new in 67 right out of basic training at Fort Polk La. 396 /350 HP 4-speed 3.08 12 bolt , AC , AM /FM radio , power steering ! A TONOFWONDER ! New 67 Z/28's were running low fifteens , LOL ! The 66 Chevelle's were rated at 360 HP , but I never had any trouble outrunning them ! Get your facts straight please .

First of all, the L34 was the 350 horsepower version, the L35 was initially 325. L78s were not available in the 66s until late in the spring of 66, almost too late to matter.
Lastly, quit throwing dollar values around. Cars are iron, rubber, some plastic and vinyl. Deusenburgs once sold for $1 to 1.25 Million. Now, they are about a third of that. The people that cared about them are either gone or don't know who they are. The same will happen with these. May take longer, but there are more of them to begin with and it isn't too late for a nice majority. But you hyping the prices just irks me. A 67 Z28 isn't a 7 figure car and would only approach that for a documented low mile survivor that is in working order, NOT a barn find that needs 60 days to get going, but one that has been maintained and driven a little here and there thru the years.

I will buy a 67 RS Camaro with a junk engine and drop in a 502 or 572 before I buy a WEAK 302 for hundreds of thousands

      @jeremythompson9122 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Those 302's definitely weren't what I would call weak. They were a high RPM screamer. They were really a factory race car. A homologation car for the Trans Am series
