I spent months looking for the Town Car (2002) that I bought 5 years ago; most of the ones that were for sale had vinyl tops, and I wouldn't touch them. You guys have shown why.
One thing I can say about those cars is being body on frame you can actually replace the entire section of top if needed. The issue is the welding that you would need to do to replace the thing might require another carriage roof to cover up and hide the welds. ( limos have such roofs to cover the welding that was required to extend the body )
Wow, I always wondered how the cars looked under those tops...I had no idea that you basically killed some of the bodywork by installing those. Still think they look dope on Town Cars, though...
Did you know vinyl tops on modern cars (metal, not wood, body) started to hide manufacturing dents on roof (dropped tools). Fad caught, and off they went. Unfortunately (assuming you like them at all), they're totally unsuited to egg-shaped cars like this - just make ugly uglier :(
Nice movie. But if you wanted to carry out the work sustainably. Better to make those holes in the roof rust free and weld them closed. Now you know for sure that within a few years the roof will start leaking and rust.
What an unfortunate car modification 😂boomers had quite a taste. Now your only two options are a new vinyl top or re-wrapping/repainting this one (which will rot away anyway) or re-painting the car (painting the roof is the worst, even with proper equipment) Great video and cool car 👌
I have an 03 with a full vinyl top, had it replaced about 7 years ago but it’s starting to come lose in the front. Bumps are appearing underneath in some areas, I think it’s rust spots. Hate getting rid of the car because it runs great and look good still except for the top. Wonder if I can have a body shop remove the top and do the repair and just paint it to make it a hard top?
Hats off to these young men, learn to work with your hands and you will have a job anywhere in the world and make good money doing it. "Hey Alexa, remove my vinyl top." Oh yeah, she can't....but these guys can! Best wishes.
Oh man...I'm thinking about buying a 2001for $1000 and although it's a Florida car,, I noticed bubbling rust near every screw and thought it might be really bad looking under that cover...if I got it for 500 I would just cut the top off from the windshield back and build some kind of mad max car..but I already have a project like that..thanks guys for the video...if I can't get it for cheap, I'm going to leave this one alone
My top is in good shape just pulled up a bit passenger side. I see why now screw must of broken. That I can fix. Thanks for the video it is most helpful. I think I would of used auto body putty to seal the holes.
I'd love to see how you guys would do this thru u both on a 2000 Lincoln towncar limo I have. I'm afraid to even touch it or try to do anything to it despite the vinyl top on it is cracking and is even coming off over the back of the side panel behind my rear door in it due to a bad rust spot my car has on it and under it even. I really wish I knew how to be doing it to a limo if I'd be possible and to not be having to be paying a shop thousands a shop wants to do it even here and that's out in Riverside CA an HR away from me and when I don't have a few thousand just to be giving to a shop to be doing it if it's possible. What's the tube of stuff your putting on the holes in the top of the roof on it? Is that a tube of DAP? Or whats in that tube? And why are you filling up the holes? U not putting another vinyl top on it? Or what?
Hello, I have a 2005 Lincoln just like your`s, in the start of this video you took off tha ( chrome strip with the light fixture ) (Opera light ) mine blew off. can I buy these from you if you still have those part`s you took off? ,also the plastic hold down piece`s ?
@@foxyfox3942 I have a town car with a full canvas soft top, it's really great for muffing the sound. Vinyl I'm sure, does the same, but it gets torn and wears off very easily and ugly. If you work on a car with soft top, don't discard it before trying to convert into a fabric canvas. The shell under the fabric is worth a fortune these days.
I had a 1991 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX and one of the corners of the C Pillar was so rusted below the Vinyl top that I could fit my whole fist through it.
Good choice. Those tops just look awful and will ruin a perfectly good car. Old people trying to re-create the great looking cars of the 70's and 80's. The rounded styling on modern cars just doesn't look well with them and they don't match the quality and finished look of the factory installed tops. I would never buy a car with an aftermarket canvas or vinyl top like this!

I saw one just now that’s almost what I’m looking for. But the top it has isn’t in a good color that matches the car.
Looks like I have to pass.
So proud to see these young men doing something productive. Good Job Guys...... Pizza Party for you.😃
THATS MY CAR!!!...just kidding
Right!

Lol, Midnight Auto! Reminds me of when I was a kid, working on mine at night to beat the heat of Vegas. Nice Town Car.
I was looking on repairing my 05 towncar . Thanks for the vid . Now I’ll repair myself . Thanks
sell dat shi and get vinyless
I got vinyl too but mine is 2003 im sure theres going to be wayy more rust🥲

Yep im dealing with the same situation with my 2003 towncar😭 Imma have to just go with blackout since itll hide the weather stains better🤷♂️

Well said
Great video! I always wondered what was beneath those tops
LOTS 0F RUST. PLASTIC TOPS= NO GOOD. CONGRESSIONAL TOWN CAR= WOW!!

Nice!!! Keep working on the Town Car!
We will!
Hey! What did you guys do with the opera/coach lights on the B pillars that you cut the wire @ 2:32??? I'd like to buy them if you saved them!
Still interested if you see this!
How do you put the trim back on after removing the vinyl?
Oh brother... that was a mistake.
Good job guys. Post more of your work!!
We will!
Getting the kids in there, I love it!
They did a good job now I feel like I can do it thank y’all frfr
I know this video is 3 years old but do you still have the shell top i'm looking for one
I just bought my son a 1997 signature series with a vinyl top,but needs to be replaced 😔
Nice! I have the same car
Put a fresh vinyl top to cover it up again!
I was thinking the same
Those rust holes need to be taken care of the right way or the rust is going to eat on through the metal, all the rust has to go not just the holes
Hey do you guys have another video of how the removal of the soft top came out?
Great job, guys!!! Good work.
Thanks so much!
Good video boys. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m currently fixing my Lincoln 1997 do you guys know how to remove a headliner and replace trim
You guys put in work after work & it worked 💙🤝❤️ Respect if you have each other backs properly..I see big things happen

I’m looking for a top like that for my 2000 where did you get yours from?
Man. Thank yall!!
Would a 1999 Town Car have paint underneath the vinyl and fiberglass like those car does??
Yes. The vinyl covered fiberglass shell is glued and screwed on after the car is painted at the factory.
молодцы пацаны, хоть пока что и рукожопы, шурик они напрасно взяли

Badass work
Nice what are y’all going to do to the Lincoln town car bro ? Are y’all going to put some new wheels

Take it to the junkyard? Fix it or sell it to someone that will…

I agree with you
Well I disagree with you. These roofs add class and style in my opinion. So I am glad they exist.
@@SkySkrapinEnt yea same here always loved em my town car is a 2006 beige with a black rag top
I hate them, it actually takes away from beauty of the car, in my opinion
They look good on some cars
The rust and holes underneath is the problem with them.
I need to buy a replacement vinyl top for my 03 Town Car. Does anyone know a website that sells it thx 👍
Sand it, paint it.after you take the top off. Plastic tops only Rot' out your roof

So I have a 94 Caprice with a top. I want it off asap. I have taken the cloth off but now all I see is fiberglass. Any suggestions? Anybody...
