I will admit I knew nothing about Modest Mouse until Johnny Marr joined them. I went to see them in Liverpool and can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
It's a corner not a trumpet, and he's between two stacks of amps with no monitors. He probably cant hear a thing. Still I only noticed a couple notes he was really sharp or flat on.
I can’t help but wonder how much better reality would be if it had Johnny Marr constantly playing guitar in it-no global warming, no war, no prejudice-we can only wonder but I do know the times I have Marr playing in my life, it is better. Johnny Marr!!!
Modest mouse is a band that sounds absolutely amazing on cd but don’t necessarily sound very good live mainly because of the extra percussion that’s featured on the album not to mention the lead singer always sounds a bit unenthusiastic. Some bands live for the live shows and some bands are more into studio playing
I'll never get Johnny Marr joining Modest Mouse. I mean, I like them and all, but one can't really say it's a match, right? I can't even "hear" Marr on any of the songs of this album. To top it, Johnny Marr alone is bigger than Modest Mouse. IMO it was quite an odd choice for him to join the band.
I get the impression he prefers the idea of helping along the smaller bands rather than selling out, I saw in an interview he said working with the cribs was one of the best things he's done, and I think thats why

you should check out some videos of their early live shows around when lonesome crowded west came out, that stuff is killer
I disagree ive seen them several times and they never disappoint. Some songs even sound better live than on record
