The streets of Xenon were pretty scary in SQ4 the first time I played, no small thanks to Ken Allen there and the seeming randomness on if that cyborg would silently appear, and wither he could see you and suddenly break his silence in the worst way (a nod to invasion of the pod people I'd later learn).
And that guy in GK1 just staring constantly into your shop window - what a creepy way to let you know they know you're poking their mystic clandestine hornet's nest, and they will sting you where you live. Such a simple way to raise the tension.

    Other stand out moments:
Approaching the cave in GK2, and finding what you do there. The following hunt is scary in spite of the wolf effects.
GK3 Grace following the cries of a baby into a chateau - that whole chapter, but especially when she opens the chest in the attic.
Just venturing into the forest at nighttime in QfG1EGA, no idea what horrible monster might try to eat you - even getting near the graveyard made you fear having to go there, until Baba Yaga - who is also very scary to approach - says she'll get you if you don't go there at precisely midnight.
Nighttime in QfG2 and QfG4 were also pretty harrowing, what with Ghouls and Wraiths, but I think nothing is quite as scary as the first time.
The Conquests of Camelot catacombs: Mark Seibert's music, the threat of deadly rats jumping out of dead bodies, and the bone numbing screech when you find a body that's not as dead as it should be.
The last chapter of Phantasmagoria. 😰

There were other scary moments in Sierra games:
The lair of the Supercomputer in SQ 4 was pretty scary with the music and environment.
I didn’t know Freddy Pharkas had a nod to Evil Dead and Army of Darkness!
The Realm of the Dead especially in the beginning was creepy trying to avoid the zombies.

Yeah, the Supercomputer was was probably my first exposure to HR Giger style artwork.
The Realm of the Dead made me tots afraid the first time I flew there, with that disjointed lullaby music - and the the corpses shamble up - easy enough to avoid them but you don't know that at first. Every screen there just drips in sad eerie atmosphere, and felt so good to conquer it. The Labyrinth earlier also had pretty scary atmosphere (clip-clop-clip-clop), and Mordack's Island. I think 4 was the most terrifying though, particularly having to go through the Ogre's house and especially the Troll's cave.

@@MagusMarquillin the Trolls Cave gave me nightmares especially when getting caught by the troll.
The music in the beginning of the Realm of the Dead was creepy.
Another contender was the death scenes in Dagger of Amon Ra. They were like a combination of deaths from Friday the 13th and Final Destination.

@@Manhattan_Heretic I really do need to try Laura Bow 2. Certainly a nice creepy vibe in the first one - the awful deaths springing out of nowhere are to the games credit, and against it.
I love Lucasarts games and all, but these are the experiences they don't provide, even when they aren't leaning on the comedy, the threat of getting a violent game over can cause the player real fear - like braving a pitch black cave with an blood thirsty horror in it, in order to save my(Rosella's) father's life, was such a good feeling when accomplished. It's sadly not found in many other adventure games anymore.

Yeah that evil Dead reference was great. I had no idea about that either

Yep the cyborg in SQ4 was defo bad - clever mix of Clockwork Orange and the body snatchers (not that I knew either of those references as a kid) also all the dead bodies in Laura Bow 2 not sure which was most disturbing for me but it might have been the lady who gets snake bit

I'd say discovering the pile of bodies in Laura Bow 1 was also pretty scary. But yeah I can relate to everything you said. That cyborg messed me up for so many years as a kid 🤣

Lovely mix of Nightmare on Elm Street and the Sierra jingle.
The cyborg freaked me out so bad when I was a kid that I would turn off the speakers and look away until it was over.
King's Quest IV had the troll caves. Every single time you changed screens, you had to hold your breath and hope that the troll doesn't come for you. Couple screens in and suddenly you fall to your death, so that's a jumpscare right there.
Gabriel Knight and the wheel within a wheel was terrifying...and that's BEFORE the mummies stand up.
