Hey Luke, I watched your conversion videos and I must say it’s the best conversion process I have seen so far. What made it so impressive is your ability to explain technical procedures and knowledge of subject matter. You’re great and I suspect a good human being too.
Been thinking about doing a conversion on my '02 F250. I've had it for a while. Given truck prices now, I could get a cheap part out donor, make a minty conversion, and be way ahead in vehicle value after as opposed to buying a working clapped out 4x4 and modding it. My trucks in mint shape despite its age, so at least I know what I got which makes this swap so appealing. Thanks for sharing this video, super helpful! These trucks really are that brain-dead easy to do the swap ;)
I was in the same Boat as you 4 years ago when I purchased this truck, I wanted a 4x4 But I got a sweet deal on this one, And with all original paint and Lariat Trim level and just the overall condition it was extremely hard to find one in similar condition that was 4x4 that cost less than $20k. So I started researching alternatives because I knew the super duty axles were a really popular conversion on the OBS Trucks, And I figured if they can fabricate it and make it work, Surely I can make it work on the vehicle it was designed for. So we did just that! And after all is said and done, Im roughly 13k into this truck, Still looks new and has many years left in it. Good luck on your conversion and thanks for watching
Liked the video, I’m in the process of turning my 1993 E350 into a 4x4 camper van. Just gotten a F350 srw front differential for it. Look forward to more of your videos.
wow thats awesome, im thinking of converting my 2017 model but I dont have tools or space or friends with those resources. thinking about paying for it at a shop but im afraid they wont use oem parts
man ive been waiting for this. i have the same truck just long bed 7.3 same color and all. i have the front axle innow but where did you get the transfer case shifter parts?
A Junk yard is the cheapest place to get them but TorqueKing.com Sells everything you need for the shift linkage, Here are the part numbers Tcase Shifter Assembly (7.3) QU24548 Tcase Shifter Assembly (gas 5.4 6.8) QU20724 Tcase Shift Rod QU20551 Torx Bolt QU20727 Shift Lever in cab QU20547 Shift lever Knob QU20550 Floor Mounted Shifter Boot QU20549 The Gas Engine and diesel engines share all the same shifter parts the only difference is the mounting plates The only other thing you will need is the 2 Flange bolts that attach the Shifter to the Shifter Assembly on the tranny. Believe they're fine thread metric 10 bolts let me know if you have any questions and good luck with your build!!
What did you do with 7.3 transfer case shifter plate/bracket that you didn’t need? I have the linkage and all that but I just need that plate with the 3 holes. Or is the part number above the one for the 7.3 whole assembly?
@@chauvinsgarage1515thank you! Great 2 videos on the 4x4 swap I just swapped mine also, the videos helped me a lot. I have to get my driveshaft made this week
So after doing a lot of research and going to Junk yards there is only 2 cross members total, the 7.3, 6.8 and 5.4 all share the same ones, There is a 2wd member, 4x4 member. So it don't matter what engine you have, They all share the same 4x4 cross member
@@chauvinsgarage1515 Thanks. My 4x4 diesel donnor truck didn’t have cross member, rear driveshaft, hanger bearing. Is the rear hanger bracket CROSSMEMBER different on my F350 2WD diesel compared to a 4WD hanger bracket CROSSMEMBER? BTW your video on this project is terrific. Thanks
@nitroitch The rear Hanger is gonna be the same as the F250s They all use the same ones all the way up to a F550, The only thing that is tricky to find is the correct Carrier bearing hanger for the drive shaft, There's multiple ones depending on what wheelbase you have
Most of the cost was in the Transmission surprisingly, The entire front end conversion out the the door with the new lift kit and all parts was right at $2,800. Thats with everything brand new. I had the Transmission completely rebuilt and converted at a reputable Transmission shop here in Central Florida, and it cost me $4k
I'm not very familiar with the electrical Diagram for the Np273 cases, I would read your owners manual because there is 1 fuse for the 4x4 shift relay, Aside from that it might be plug and play and a matter of installing the harness, I went with the manual shift for simplicity, Best of luck to you
No lift blocks in the rear, They are 4 inch lift F-350 Leaf springs sitting directly on the sattle, it sits about 2 inches higher in the back. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Most of the parts that were used I got at local Junkyards, Whoever had what I needed in stock. I would definitely suggest calling around and you definitely want to see the vehicle the parts come off of In person before you buy.. The front end parts I got came out of another 2001 that was rear ended and totaled , But obviously the front end was still good so I knew the parts weren't damaged. I would avoid buying from ones that were hit hard in the front or rolled over because the axle could be bent or have major issues
My truck is an 02 7.3 2wd. It does not appear to have the same pigtail/plug to a block off that’s unused on the back side of the transmission. Do you know what they did on these trucks different?
Thats strange because every one I've looked at from 99 to 03 has the same pig tail in the same place even on the manual transmissions, Perhaps its further up on the wiring harness? Every 4x2 transmission should have the same harness
On all the super dutys Single Rear Wheel and f350 Single rear wheel they should be 3.73 Gear ratio. The f350 Dual rear wheel use 4.10 gears. If you have a 4.10 rear end all you need is a matching front end with 4.10 gears. Definitely need matching gear ratios otherwise the back wheels will wanna travel faster than the front or vise versa depending on what gears you have. As long as the gear ratios match you'll have no issues
Mine Has 326k on it, No complaints its been maintained very well and has had oil changes every 3k miles. The only issue i have with it are the Valve seals going bad, It smokes a little bit, Changing them out is a pretty big job since the camshaft is in the head. Its probably easier just to get a new set of heads thats been casted with deeper spark plug holes if you have a 01 or older, that way the valves and everything are fresh going back in
Getting a used transmission is by far cheaper but its hit or miss on overall condition and how long it will last which is why i had mine rebuilt.. had a Local Shop rebuild the transmission and they added the 4x4 parts i needed $4k labor and parts out the door with a 3 year or 100k mile warranty
@@chauvinsgarage1515 thanks for the info I’m planning a 4x4 conversion on my 2002 f350 and I’m trying to figure out what way to go with the transmission

Let us know how that conversation turns out! I have a 2003 E350 with the 7.3 powerstroke that we are trying to convert next
Nice job on the conversation, too!
And also my next question. What more are you gonna do to that truck? I would love to see more videos on that truck.
Great video! Very well done and answered all my questions. Thanks
Hats off to you! Beautiful truck!

The plate for the t case lever 1 bolt you said was t50 what size it the other bolt
Great video, i am going to bypass the ESOF on my 03 Excursion to manual with NP273. Is that a ford shifter setup? Do you have part number? Thank you
What years are compatible for this conversion? For example, can 2008 parts be used on a 2000?
Were did you buy all part to convert into 4x4
great video
Great job 👏 I have a 2002 f250 7.3 I love to convert my to 4x4 what year would I need would a f250 2003 6.0 4×4 will do the job or pars will work sir

You did an awesome job. I have a 2001 7.3 6 speed manual. Are there major differences when installing the transfer case?
No major differences at all! Just gotta change the output shaft and extension housing for the transmission and you're all set
@@chauvinsgarage1515 Thank you!
Hey I know this is a longshot but do you still have the 7.3L bracket? I did the opposite of what you did haha.
So I have a 2006 6.0 Powerstroke and I am planning on doing this same thing. I was wondering if there was a parts list that you wouldn’t mind sharing
Transmission will be different. An NP271 transfer case is still what you want, but as he mentioned you need one from a 6.0 truck.
I git 1996 ford econoline 350 2 wheel drive ...can i convert it into 4x4 ...and where can i find it ...thanks

What gear ratios do you have in the truck? If i have a 4:10 rear what front end should i use?If i use a different front end what would happen?
Front and rear gear ratios have to match or else the truck will be all over the road when in 4wd. It just won’t work, simple way to put it.
