I cannot believe the chief held a press conference assuring the public they were "safe" when they very obviously were not safe, because the kidnapper struck again!
Why are people so comfortable dismissing very bad conduct from police? They should be fired at the very minimum and not allowed to work in any position of power.

Its unprofessional to go in front of press and talk about a crime unless the victim permits. Maybe it was a cop who did it and he was protecting his own. Many victims are not believed after being raped and that is why they do not come forward.
Imagine a case where the criminal sees the le enforcement not doing their job believing their victims and going out of their way to almost out himself for them to take it seriously. Because the media and the law are just focusing on salacious, imaginative scenarios. It took him redoing similar crimes and getting caught for the whole story to come together and believing the victims… pretty crazy and infuriating. Thank God those cops, who investigating his last crime in another city nearby, arresting him and putting all the dots together. Shameful of their Vallejo police and FBi department for not believing there’s more and investigating, even when shown more proof. Im glad they Denise and Aaron won their settlement against them and got their justice restored.
This is so sad on how the police didn't do anything when they can easily trace the kidnapper from the boyfriend's phone. Their lives have been ruined but they were able to restore thanks to the detective from the other city who is doing their job properly.
An apology from the police is not enough they should get fired for not doing their job endangering more people. Their salary is from tax payers. People deseve better protection than that
So terrible that these people had to go through this! Not only being the victims of the brutal rape and kidnapping, but then to be accused of lying about it. Sometimes I think the police are corrupt. When they can't even correctly investigate, and end up pointing the finger of blame on the actual victims. Wtf.

what he not the father she was raped twice
@@TimiO47 Yeah, she was pregnant for 5 years. Good call genius.
im talking about the person that raped her A hole so you can take your sarcasm and shove it up your own ass@@jefflarson1652
They WROTE A LETTER!?! Ummmm negative. That press conference was repulsive all on its own, but the way that these VICTIMS were treated during, and after the ordeal was criminal. Incredibly unprofessional. This woman was so lucky to make it home alive. That should have been celebrated, but instead she was interrogated. Ew.
Lt. Park should lose his job! Det. Mustard is an absolutely sorry excuse for a cop! Every citizen in Vallejo need to voice their disapproval to the city council & fire these bad cops!
How did the community loose so much resources when the cops told him he was lying rite away. Those cops are ridiculous
Exactly, they didn't spend a single resource trying to find her. They had the fucking tracking data. Fucking losers.
It's so so scary to think that if something terrible happens you don't even have the police to check on it or help. That you have to go through it alone. I will never ever call the police. They are , more than ever, the enemy
This was NOTHING like Gone Girl, except for the fact that they both involved a girl. . . .
I think they drew the comparison because the police immediately suspected her husband, and when she reappeared, they thought she had faked her disappearance. But, of course they were the opposite of the movie character s or what the police thought..in real life.
The case is called that because the police used Gone Girl as their rationale for saying the whole thing was faked.
No it's only 95%
Netflix brought me here 😢❤❤❤ this is so sad and I’m glad they sued them but I wish they all would lost their license and went to jail
The Vallejo policeman who massively defamed them to the world should publicly apologize and be absolutely fired. How dare him shame them to the world and then think he doesn’t need to publicly apologize.
I remember watching the documentary on Netflix recently. What a joke that police department is!
Detective: Don't worry, you're not a suspect or anything. We don't want you to feel that way at all. Just take your time and tell us everything that happened.
Boyfriend: *Tells detective what happened*
Detective: You're a monster! I'm gonna make sure you get thrown in a cell and the key gets thrown away!
I just watched this on Netflix and I gotta say, they really compared this whole thing to a movie?? Like WTF?!?!?
You know what worst than bad investigators ? Bad investigators that aren't able to admit they are wrong and apologize !
This story is one of the reasons why I never ended up reporting any of the times I was sexually assaulted, I didn’t think the police would believe me especially when my own mother and people around me wouldn’t and would call me a liar and shame me for reaching out for help
And police wonder why the public is against them, this was horrendous
Terrible job police 🤦🏻♀️ I cannot believe how they treated them
I cannot believe the chief held a press conference assuring the public they were "safe" when they very obviously were not safe, because the kidnapper struck again!
Why are people so comfortable dismissing very bad conduct from police? They should be fired at the very minimum and not allowed to work in any position of power.
Wow these cops should really be ashamed of themselves.
I hope no one will ever be kidnapped where these detectives would be on the case!
I’m so glad that they showed the police how foolish they acted. I’m so glad she made it out. She used her wits and guts to prevail. Thank God her boyfriend went to the police great guy.
iam happy it strengthened their love and bond and they also got a few million settlement from the cops
One of the most horrible cases I've read about. I pray Denise can heal from this.
All victims of trauma don't respond in the same ways. The police dept should be fucking ashamed of themselves for how they conducted themselves.
It’s only strange, because the law-enforcement made it strange. No true words have been spoken. God bless his couple and what they’ve been through.
I remember this horrible story & the police via media had us all convinced this couple was lying BUT I had a gut feeling the couple was 100% truthful. I'm so sorry she had to go through this nightmare! Forever haunted I'm sure...
Its unprofessional to go in front of press and talk about a crime unless the victim permits. Maybe it was a cop who did it and he was protecting his own. Many victims are not believed after being raped and that is why they do not come forward.
Even the criminals called the police department's response a travesty. Dang.
The fact that even the rapist was calling out the cops on their BS is almost hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic.
God bless you Denise🙏🏻 it’s a true blessing that you’re still alive! Life is crazy and God a a special purpose for us all
I am beyond disgusted by the incompetence and ignorance of the police department
I really try to give cops the benefit of the doubt since my Dad was one but it's becoming really hard.
My family member was a cop for over 20 years and will be the first to tell you that you can’t trust them. They push the good cops out and to the side.
The cops in their own skin, being arrogant, feeling good about it...
I felt every single emotion of this lady, and im an empath!
Most citizens support the police
Wait, so what did the ex girlfriend have to do with this story??
The attacker call the police out is amazing!! As disgusting and despicable this man is I’m so glad he did that!
That’s cause the police care about having power, not helping people.
She was victimized twice. Poor girl. A letter!?! 2.5 million should help. I would leave that town though cops will never forget the.
That police department owes them more than that amount honestly. They fucked up biggg time
Lol its funny that only whites are protecting her, wonder why.
Yikes! So sad for that lady :(
An apology from the police is not enough they should get fired for not doing their job endangering more people. Their salary is from tax payers. People deseve better protection than that
I believe and I’m sorry to this lovely couple
So terrible that these people had to go through this! Not only being the victims of the brutal rape and kidnapping, but then to be accused of lying about it. Sometimes I think the police are corrupt. When they can't even correctly investigate, and end up pointing the finger of blame on the actual victims. Wtf.
she is so strong...they are such a lovely couple and i truly wish them peace and happiness
Wow Wow Wow. How in the hell can a police department get it so terribly wrong yet say they wouldn’t change anything??????????? My prayers go out to this couple for all the trauma they went thru and prayers they have a long and happy life together.
I can’t imagine what they had to go through omg. How scary. The fact that we live in a world where people with power using the wrong way. The system is so corrupt!!! Our world is now deceiving.
so the law is going off of movies now? How pathetic is the world i grew up in. When i was little i thought adults were geniuses,i thought they could do no wrong. Boy was i wrong. Grew up to see nothing but walking idiots
They still have not explained how the man who assaulted her had so much information about them.🤔
What is the to explain? Obviously, he did some research on his victims.
She is brave ,innocent and beautiful
After calling them liars, fakes, and using resources they write a letter saying they're sorry. They should be sued! They may no attempt to investigate the kidnapping, none!
That's what's wrong with law enforcement in this Country. It's clear the fucked up and then have the nerve to say they would've done anything differently. That's scary, it's very scary!
Came here from Netflix.
Omg I was so surprised at the beginning then mad at the end, police officers did a horrible job!!! SMH
I was crying with rage.
You know it's bad when even the criminal calls the police response a travesty and tried to convince them it happened.
They do have a lawsuit against the Vallejo police because they pretty much painted them as Liars and said so publicly. Affecting their personal lives. They have a case for slander, defamation of character, and causing emotional distress. Not only were they victims but they happen to be Re- victimized by The Police. The police could even be sued for breach of contract for failing to protect and serve.
2.5 million they got
@@kalievesely3200 I just found out that they settled out of court. Can you imagine if they actually continued the case? They probably would have got a lot more. I'm really glad that everything worked out for them in the end. 🙏🏼
