      So true. Loved ones should never give police these kinds of details. ... including past mental health issues as well.
      Remember the case of Elisa Lam? As soon as her mother told investigators that she suffered from bipolar .... they basically stopped looking for her. At that point they decided she probably either ran away and didn't want to be found or that she committed suicide of her own volition and therefore it was not a priority to search for her anymore. These kinds of idiot cops are infuriating.

      Qualified professionals would hesitate to make those types of assumptions like that. They had zero evidence behind that claim. And no right to say that to her family.
      Though I am not surprised I'm definitely disgusted. They deserved to be charged investigated and when they are found guilty they should be stripped of all accolades and any authority for the rest of their natural lives.

    I can't imagine the fear Aaron had knowing the police were spending all their time questioning him and not looking for Denise. She could have been dead while they were playing games. Then to top it off they accuse Denise of trying to get attention by reliving her trauma. I have a family member who suffered trauma. I also took courses in college in mental health and trauma. The idea that the police would even suggest that anyone would want to relive their trauma for excitement is insulting and shows their lack of knowledge, not to mention compassion and empathy. If this is how they deal with victims they are in serious need of retraining. Maybe police officers need to spend more time before they put them out on the street taking actual courses in psychology, mental health and trauma.

      Courses in trauma are not needed to know that a victim isn't eager to experience the "excitement" again. Common sense should tell us this. How is it that we are in 21st century America and some people still think being a victim is fun?? Haven't these police ever met victims of crime? Did they think these people were having a good time?

    • @JaredTG.

      I completely agree. Now if I see a cop car I hyperventilate and think I’m doing something wrong. Even though I’m not doing anything wrong. This has destroyed my relationship with my daughter because she was taught to respect cops and they are always right, it also made tons of rumors that I was a drug user and or dealer. To this day not even my own lawyer believes me. He asked me how did I get so many drugs in my house. Not including jobs that have done background checks and I’m getting calls for then and until they check my background. I shake a lot and talk in my sleep and my family completely isolated me. Except my father who was upstairs when it happened and knew how they treated me. They handcuffed my hands and feet and put me in a patty wagon. I asked for a priest or a mental health professional and they said they would get one and never did. There was a string in my hoodie and they didn’t even notice! That’s how people hang them selves while locked up and isolated. I saw a court appointed therapist and he said “well you let him in your house!” I’ve lost everyone I love because of this. It was over 3 years ago and it’s not going away. I can see how people look at me and what they really think and I have no one to help.

      I think the old saying "trust your gut" *usually* works for detectives. I'm sure in a solid majority of cases they use their experience and knowledge to look at the evidence and have a strong feeling for what happened in a case. Problem is putting TOO much stock into that gut feeling without exploring alternatives is something they sometimes do, which happened here. I suspect the fact that the spouse or boyfriend is usually the person responsible for a disappearance weighed very heavily. I get looking into Aaron here, but that despite zero evidence he did it and so much evidence he was telling the truth, it in inexcusable what they did to him. I think the police made up the hoax theory after that purely because they didn't want to admit how bad they screwed up, to save face.

      @iciajay6891 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      This happens a lot with victims/ survivor's or sa or csa. As a survivor of csa, I get it all the time. Because I did the work and got therepy for 30 years they doubt that I was abused as a kid. And that was from a mental health professional.

    • @iciajay6891

      Another reason ppl prob attacked her, is because of the bias of what victims/ survivor's should act like after an assault. Example is how the cops in the ares thought a woman would enjoy reliving or get excitement from being csa. They assume a 12 year old enjoyed there assault. Therefore thinking csa is not a serious trauma.

    Honest question - why have polygraphs not been outright banned for use by the police? If they worked, nearly all parents would have one for their kids. I don't see why that kind of pseudoscience is even allowed by the police since they aren't even allowed in courts.

    • @LDiamondz
      @LDiamondz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They should be banned, but I doubt they ever will be. The police use them as an investigative 'tool'. It allows them to ask more questions, while the suspect is made even MORE nervous. Then they might confess to something, or just give the police a general idea of their composure, under pressure. They decide if the suspect is worth further investigation, basically they decide if you're lying, not the machine. It's all just to rattle the suspect. It rattles the innocent, too. Innocent people have been charged and convicted based on the police's view of how they did during the polygraph, interviews, and such. If it's not allowed in court, it shouldn't be used at all.

    Wow, crazy I just saw the 20/20 interview with this couple (which I know aired sometime ago), the other night. This case was so tragic for this poor couple, given what really happened! The level of incompetency with the police in this investigation is NEXT level. AND, they wouldn't even admit guilt in the civil settlement, apparently. Disgusting. They were violated once by the perpetrator, and then again by these horribly incompetent police officers.
    I hope that couple can finally move on, and get the peace they rightfully deserve.
    Edited to say: If I am not mistaken, I think the investigator "Mustard" may still be working with the precinct. I believe Lt. Kenny Parks, who at the press conference, basically called Denise and Aaron liars, and the whole incident a hoax & waste of the taxpayer's money, left. Such a warm & fuzzy feeling to know some of these idiots are still working!
