I mentioned it in one of your prior videos, but great to see some Elric love. Moorcock is so important to modern fantasy. As you read through the saga you will see where so many of the great modern fantasy novels and series got inspiration. The Will of the Many is next book I want to read once I finish the Strormlight Archive. I've heard nothing but good things. Discworl is also high on my list. I've known about him and Discworld for quite some time and just never got around to reading hime. I grabbed his first book a couple of months ago and exploring Discworld will be a priority next year.
@@OldManReads-c9r I’m very excited to get deeper into Elric, what I have read has been fun and I really want more. I hope you have a great time with both Will of the Many and Discworld!
These are solid mate. I got some of those on my wish list. Probably wont get to any besides Shields and Shadows next year as my backlog is ridiculous. Favorites of the year that took me by surprise would be - Sun Eater. Even though I'm not a fan of book 6. I gotta give credit due to Christopher. He absolutely blew me away with this series. Ive never been so compelled to want to read more and more of a longer series. Hadrians story is absolutely top knotch. - Bloodsworn by John Gwynne was great. I did enjoy it with exception to some loose ends. If anything his series TFatF by your recommend and everyone else's has me super excited to read some more of his works. - Murderbot Diaries were a great relaxed experience. Just a fun story with something sci-fi related that wasnt too series but had a compelling main character to keep you hooked. The audiobooks are great and quick. - Joe Abercrombie althoigh not necessarily new...but since ive now almost wrapped up ALL of his books (6 for this year new reads) i gotta say he's the top performer. Im absolutely blown away by his writing style, plot development, characterization and world building. He does it all so well. If i have an auto buy type author, its Joe. Its why i pre ordered The Devil's. No matter what that book was even about, it was a zero thought must buy. Honorable mentions - Southern Reach Trilogy. Absolutely fantastic, albeit a little difficult to follow, but its done on purpose to make you the reader define what you think is happening. That doesnt happen enough in books these days. - Word Bearers/Gaunts Ghosts - My first read of the year and it started with the most brutal unrelentless killers of any books I've read. Yet Anthony Reynolds makes you FEEL for these bastards. He makes you feel apart of the legion and a battle brother. When you can sympathize with the monsters, you know the author is doing a killer job. Gaunrs Ghost - nearly wrapped up, Imperial Guard novels. Literally the best military sci-fi there is to offer. It made me cry. Enough said.
@@Dugrath I’ll have to get to Shields soon after you, it should be great fun. I wish the last books of Sun Eater and Bloodsworn had been stronger finishes, but still great journeys. Murderbot is good fun and Abercrombie is an elite tier writer aye
The fact that the art you used in your thumbnail is from The Bound and the Broken by Ryan Cahill, but it wasn't in your top five, drove me crazy, lmao.
Nice vid and good idea.. In terms of my fave new discoveries in '24.. easily it's Jay Kristoff with his Empire of the Vampire series, and also Mr Ruocchio with Suneater.. **cheffs kiss**
Broken Empire is one of my favourites too. I recommend checking out Red Queen's War by him next. Its the same world at roughly the same time as Broken Empire but is more comedic and has more of an empathsis on the undead plotline and has one of my favourite duos in Fantasy. Its the closest to First Law I've been able to find. I think you'd like Dragonbone Chair. It is a slowburn but worth it. Apologies for the rambling, I'm battling a hangover 😅
@@thatsci-firogue Sold! I’ll add Red Queens to the list. I’m very keen for Dragonbone, starting it today I finished TWOLAS 1 last night. Even better on reread. Rambling? I think this is one of your shortest comments to date, usually I have to get my iPad and keyboard out to respond.
Great video! Where do I begin? 😂 Empire of the Vampire, The Faithful and The Fallen, Illuminae Files, Nevernight Chronicles, Farseer! So many! I have Darkblade Assassin and The Will of The Many on my 2025 tbr 👌

most overrated over hyped books of 2024 is Faith and the Fallen by John Gywnn, One story line in 4 books that actually was good.
