I buy a delay pedal a year. Sometimes two. I have to limit my habit. Last year it was the Keeley ECCOS. This year it was the Echolution 3. And I got a Cosmosis to go with it. I also scored a MXR Poly Blue Octave last year - it's a monster! This Joshua delay sounds cool but I got my hands full lately. Great demo Bill!
Mr. Vencil, thank you for the interesting review of this effect, of course I know the brand, but I do not have any effect from this company yet. It is a good tip for eventual selection and individual personal testing. There is a lot of competition in the field of delay effects, it is a difficult but also a joyful choice. I personally like delay effects the most on my PBs. I wish you all the best in the new year 2024 and I look forward to new videos. Warm regards, Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
Been looking at the new TC Electronics TC2290 pedal but now I might need to rethink this... Mostly use my Eventide plugins with Logic Pro. So many toys/effects, so few dollars. Thanks for another brilliant review ! Happy "Ambient" New Year !!
You make this sound good Bill. The ambient beds you make here remind me of The Edge's emerging echo laden guitars on the intro to "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" ...the song where Bono writes about searching for meaning in his life through the spiritual relationship he and his wife Alison share. I have to ask, since this pedal is trying to solve the same problem as the Strymon DIG, offering 80's rack unit (TC 2290/Korg SDD-3000) quality, in duplicate. Stereo dual digital delay rack unit performance in a single pedal. To your longtime favorite DIG experienced ears, do you think this MXR Joshua pedal has that sound quality, or do you think it's more of a budget pedal that offers good sound for the money, or do you think it has the beautiful and lush sound quality of the Strymon DIG?
i can just hear all the worship guitarists trading in their strymon delays for this one... and next sunday, we'll see them all play the same droney 2 note songs.
Of all effects, delays are pretty boring. They clutter the sound up, etc. And reverb. But on reverb, I don’t have a dislike of it because it’s useful and helps vocals stand out, and I always have it on a send track to feed a little of it to guitars. Not only because it can cause guitars to sound cooler, but some reverb obscures my sloppy, inept playing somewhat, lol. But objectively, reverb is “just there”. To me it’s a general tool more than an “effect”. My brain cans delay into the same category unless I resist it. But this MXR has character going on with it, similar to EXH memory men, women and children etc. Tricked-out delays which have modulations and unique features besides just repeating sounds, I would even use them. Now when it comes to most other effects, I dig those to the point of fanaticism or something, lol. Pitch-shifters, choruses and flangers, now those are actually interesting and easy to get enthused about. I just got this Earthquaker Devices flanger with very involved control, nearly a dozen knobs for various parameters. I’d ditch my GF and marry it, Sheesh.
Sorry Bill, but not all that impressed much with this pedal.Nothing really new going on with most of the features present here. For example, my TC Electronics Triple delay blows this pedal out of the water, and has heaps more feature for features than this MXR joshua has (with the exception of an on board reverb which i prefer to mix/add in separately myself). And sorry, but i am so tired of pedals that offer up a heap of secret secondary control switching as more tone control options. Not clever really. They just make the pedal less usable or less easy to use, as the whole thing becomes too complicated to use and navigate around in the long run. My conclusion is, that this pedal is producing some nice ambient echo tones, but it's all been done before and better with other brand pedals catering for ambient delays and reverb tones. This pedal is not breaking any new ground in the ambient echo/reverb scene in my opinion. Cheers, Greg.
Do the delays on the Flashback degrade? Infinite repeats that never degrade are a huge selling point for me and they’re hard to find. Thanks in advance for your answer.
Sick and tired of comments where they pour chocolate on absolutely any pedal that happens to be reviewed, I'm glad that someone expresses the opposite opinion!
@@toddmcdaniels1567 Hi Todd. Yes, some programs do and some don't. You can choose certain programs where the repeats degrade as in analogue echoes and old drum and tape echoes , and also clean infinite digital repeats as well. Sadly, the Triple Delay was an underestimated pedal that should have taken the World by storm, but faded into obscurity too soon and never received the acclaim it deserved. In my case, i went overboard and connected two Triple delays up together (parallel and/ or series), which ended up being echo/reverb nivana !!! That's six independent, fully featured echo engines working together for infinite results possibilities - mind blowing man! Cheers, Greg ( Echo Freak).
Yes... This is the case W/ this demo. ( & also ALL of the "YT" channels I've seen thus far ) However... & I'm not going to cast stones @ who ... Well I just have to let that go... Check out the MXR demos on their "Tube channel" I've been playing , recording & touring for many years & was able to run it through its paces. It's actually F N Unreal !! Seriously. My only wish is that it had programmable song or set list capability. Check out that manufacturers demo ! ( If you're a pro, or have USED EVERYTHING.. { I have,} then you'll know. Jam on my friend !! )
Sounds amazing! Alot of great options there, could be MXR's answer to Keely Andy Timmons Delay pedal
Very nice! was not expecting for this pedal to be so versatile! Def can use it for many genres 🤘
This sounds awesome! I don’t know if it’s the best or cheapest out there but this is nearly everything I am looking for in a new delay pedal right now

Very nice review. MXR nailed it with Carbon Copy. It’s my all time favorite delay. This new pedal may find a place on a future board.
That's the baddest sounding analogue delay. 😎👍

the best review. period
MXR is awesome.
Wow! I need to check this pedal out. Thanks for the video! And wow have fun. That's what it's all about

You had me at “Voice.”
Love the meditation at the 14:00....🙂💖
Cool pedal but I wish it had standard stereo inputs and outputs. Happy new year 🎉
This pedal. 👌
Great review of product. Thank you!
Pretty cool!
other than the TC Triple, and the Strymon Dig, what pedal is doing this?
Happy New Year Bill!
Sounds great, now I need some justification to buy this after finding space on my pedal board 😂😂
I am guessing we will hear some new music using this dreamy device?
Today's a good day to own a Strymon Timeline.
Everyday is a good day to own a Timeline! :-)
it would be great if it was stereo input
I haven't even seen the video yet buuuuuuut
can't help but wonder how this would 'feel' with the cloudburst

well done!
all it needs is an expression pedal to control speed for note bending...
Wish it went at least 4 seconds, is it analog? Bill are there any long delay pedals lately you’d recommend for Frippertronics?
Deff not analog
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Would like to try it in front of a mood 2.
MRX is the best
Had a feeling you would like it.
I kinda wish/don't understand why they don't just have basic stereo ins and outs. Its a good sounding pedal though
the TRS jacks do seem to be a trend. The newer small Strymon pedals also utilize them.
i can just hear all the worship guitarists trading in their strymon delays for this one... and next sunday, we'll see them all play the same droney 2 note songs.
No Frippertronics... :( but good sounds
Could it replace the Volante???
Probably not, or at least only in a limited way. It does not do the multi-head tape echo thing.
Is it made in China?

Nothing new or special just another delay.
Hail to the KING OF AMBIENT GUITAR!
