- A quick and easy DIY video tutorial on how to replace the cabin filter on a 2013 - 2018 Nissan Altima.
Cabin air filters help enhance the air quality inside your vehicle, creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for you and your passengers. A properly functioning cabin air filter can stop up to 90% of dust, pollen, and spore particles from entering the Nissan Altima passenger compartment location.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR NISSAN ALTIMA?
It is recommended that you replace your cabin air filter every 10,000 - 15,000 miles or once a year.
However, you may want to replace or change the cabin filter in you Altima more often if:
-You or a frequent passenger suffers from allergies
-You or a frequent passenger has other respiratory problems
-You drive your Altima on dirt roads or in excessively dusty conditions
-You drive your Altima on heavily polluted areas
This video tutorial can be used to help remove, change or replace the cabin filter on the following Nissan Models:
2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL
2014 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL
2015 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL
2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL
2017 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL
2018 Nissan Altima 2.5 S, SR, SL, SV and 3.5 SL

Very helpful thank you very much. My local shop wanted $85.00 labor fee for this simple filter change.
You're welcome!
Literally the poorest design for something so simple. Nice job Nissan. Took me like 30 seconds in every Honda or Toyota I’ve ever owned to do this, not so much for the Nissan
Exactly. So easy to change on my accord but Nissan made it extremely difficult for the cabin air filter.
5 minute job has taken me over an hour and I still can't get the fucking filter door to lock into place
I hate this so fucking much
@@blueshiftmusicsounds like you guys are idiots if it’s taking you an hour to
Put an air filter in lol
@@blueshiftmusicsame here. I changed my filter today and not sure if that latch will stay out or not. Nissan needs to fire the person who designed this
This helped a lot! Only issue I’m having is putting the cover back on
Wow been looking for the cabin filter for awhile now. This is so much easier than thought of thank yoi
You're Welcome!
I’m confused 🫤 still do I have to take the glove box off to do it? I have 2017 Nissan Altima
Nissan wanted me to pay $60 to replace mine. Thank you for this video
You're Welcome!
Wow that's crazy. The filter costs like $15 at AutoZone
Oil changing place wanted to charge me $145
The real fun begins when the old filter was installed incorrectly and won't come out. Take the glove box out and make yourself a "fish hook" barb with a coat hanger. Slide it in next to the filter with the barb vertical, then rotate 90 to catch the filter. Pull the filter, move it up and down until the bottom edge pops out. You'll lose a little skin and you'll swear at Nissan, but it can be done.
I've never experienced that but good tip
This. I’ve been looking for the lever for an hour and couldn’t find it, but I found the spot you are putting your air filter in, there’s nothing there but air and some cold water, I just tried to fit the filter I bought in there and I’m hoping I did it right
I’m in the same boat now
Bro why is this so accurate! It was installed horrible and it took me 15min to take out
Grant- these guys checked my air filter and jammed it back in rather than leaving it flush in the opening. Knuckles look like they went through a meat grinder after trying to put my fingers behind it to bring it forward. That plastic is no joke!
Great advice here. Thanks
Thanks there. I just figured out that my Mechanic did not replace the clip on the Unit. He left it sitting in the seat.
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
It took me like an hour to remove it
What the hell NISSAN 🤬!!!
Any way thank you so much on this video 😇
You're Welcome 👍
Just what I needed.
Nice!
Great video! Thanks
You are welcome!
Good video man. Thank you

Use a flathead screwdriver to wedge it out the tab..
thank you !!!!

Thank you, sir

Damn I love TH-cam💯
Thanks 😊
You're Welcome!
I pushed the tab up with some force and it won't budge. I'm too afraid I'll break it as I usually break everything. It has to be the same exact set up, even for a 2016 Altima SV?
i can confirm if it doesn’t budge it will break mine wasn’t really moving or coming out so i tried a little more and the tab snapped off so now idk what to do
Wow..Thank you soooo much!! You just saved me so much bread..They usually charge me 90 bucks for this!!!
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Thank you! Pretty straight forward. I will be changing mine soon.
You're Welcome!
@@PYR-Auto Thanks gain! Took me less than 10 minutes to change it out.
Great!
Please let us know how was it.
What tricks do you have to put the air filter door back on? I’ve been angling it and pushing it for 30 minutes with no luck. It won’t lock into place. The latch is in good condition, the opposite ends angled catch is in good condition, the filter isn’t blocking it. Thoughts? My fingers and knuckles are dying.
OMG this is my issue exactly!!!! Cannot get the damn door back on. So poorly designed.
Try lining the latch at the top then swing the bottom out about 45 degrees a couple of times.
I broke mine. Whoops 😬
@@preston8366 - This did the trick. You should make a TH-cam video showing the 45 degree trick. It would be an instant hit.
@@preston8366 thank you so much, I spent 45 minutes trying to get the door to latch properly
It helps if you have a small hand
You just saved me 99$ plus maintenance fee
Great!
Hey so I been seeing all these videos they take out the glove box , I don’t gotta do all that ? I can just do it from the bottom like that ??
No, you don't have to take the golvebox out. Many vehicles do require that you take out the glovebox to access the cabin filter, but on these years of the Nissan Altima you do not
Program Your Remote thank you it was very easy
You're welcome! yes, it's pretty simple
This is a 2017 model. Older models have filter behind the glove box. This one is inside the center console.
Can you remove the other filter the same way but the opposite side?
Uhhhh
I KNEW I'd be dumb to pay 80 bucks for this lol. Thanks.
You're Welcome!
That helps a lot they try to changed me $150 at the dealership
Glad it helped!
i am having trouble taking the tab off. it is so difficult any suggestions
Not sure - the ones that I have done have come of pretty easy
@@PYR-Auto I’ve Broken the tab off. So the whole thing won’t come off
i have quiestion the point air flow i do know how puting help pls on 2016 nissan altima 3.5 sl thanks
There should be arrow on the filter and you want that arrow to be pointing towards the rear of the car when the filter is installed.
@@PYR-Auto thank you mi amigo
@@PYR-Auto thank you mi amigo
@@PYR-Auto thank you mi amigo
Same place as a tesla model 3/Y just more accessible
Wait. It’s that simple? 😮 the shop I went to wanted $75
Mine doesn’t look like that
How do you know that the arrow goes facing towards the rear of the car
That's how the factory installed filter comes out - with the arrow facing that direction.
The filter has a label on end saying Air Flow with an arrow which should point into the interior of the cabin.

Does matter if nissan side is showing or does that end need to be in the back the arrow is pointing to the inside the car
the arrow needs to point to the rear of the car ⬅️
@@jennatolls904 thank I got done last summer I'll be doing it again soon
My old filter wouldn’t come out and sank deeper into it. Man this thing is unaccessible for a big guy like me
Do you have to actually take the glove box out to get the filter in?
no
@@PYR-Auto YES, it's not that easy, Nissan designers made a horrible design job when it comes to replace parts. In this case you have to remove the glovebox otherwise u gonna suffer putting that in. th-cam.com/video/Y7UpPg2f3Jk/w-d-xo.html
not simple at all...best is to remove glove box and do it
Struggling to be the door back in snug
Same here. I may duct tape that stupid thing.
Nissan dealership wanted 93$
Normally a simple thing to do. Dont see why it had to be so frustrating. Maybe to encourage people to go to spend more money for a professional to do it.
I can't put the cover back on
Same
Go in at a 45 degree angle and it locks in easy
I absolutely cannot find the location of the air filter in this vehicle. It’s a 2017 Nissan Altima. There is no evidence of a cover to the air filter anywhere on the passenger side. I removed the panel…looked up under the glove box with no luck??
It's all the way towards the end. You literally have to stick your head under the glove box and it's helps to have a flashlight at 1st. After you see it you won't forget it cause it will cause a lot of misery taking it out and putting that stupid latch back on. I just did it today and not sure if that latch is secured. This is the worse place ever for a filter!!
So I just tried this and I ended up breaking the tab that opens the door lol I’m just going to leave anything and everything when it comes to my car to the professionals.
how????? he literally showed you how to do it.
@@jennatolls904 The plastic tab broke when I pushed on it. Oh well….Nissan took care of the rest & other maintenance.
Not simple. Almost impossible to shove the new filter in
Horrible horrible design. My spine won’t be right for a week.
The location of the filter is shown in this video and the direction of the airflow but removing the glove box is a must to install the new filter and should be mentioned. You stated you recently replaced the filter but it can't be done without removing the glove box. Otherwise thanks for providing some useful info
False you do not need to remove the glove box
Very bad cabin filter design !
