The 3ds graphics looking mechanic of flying to different islands is really cool to me. I’ll have to look into picking this one up!

I've been keeping on eye on Vernal Edge since I first saw it announced. It looks stunning, I enjoy a great metroidvania, and the gameplay looked really solid. It's so good to hear that it's so amazing from the sounds of it, and that it can really hold its own in the world of other Metroidvanias. I'll definitely have to pick this up and give it a whirl on my deck. Thank you for the review.

Almost a sure buy when I get back home. This one looks meaty! I'm really trying to go further in Souldiers (end boss of the great pyramid). Those pixel art games have modernized mechanics now and are actually as good if not better than in the '90s. Souldiers has crushing difficulty and didn't play it for months, but I got so much better in the past 5 hours that I can't stop playing. The quality of the pixel art is just too good! Vernal Edge feels like a 32-bit game from the late '90s and the gameplay looks awesome. I'd be surprised if I'm disappointed. I highly recommend Souldiers if you love a steep learning curve with a layer of challenge that commands practice. Controls felt a bit akward at first, but now, I wouldn't have them any other way. Those modern retro games are spectacular!

I was curious about this one and it's great to hear that it's an excellent game and it will now be a must-play for me. It seems 2023 is recovering from the Krampus winners with multiple Golden Genie winners recently, though Indie Krampus might get a little jealous from losing the spotlight. 😆

Definitely picking this up.
One huge area I think the majority of Metroidvanias lack in is combat. So many Metroidvanias use a sad single hit attack with no options for combo chains, utilising terrain or alternating weapons. That was ok when the genre was starting out back with Symphony of the Night but I feel like it's definitely outdated now. I will always wish for a 2D Devil May Cry style Metroidvania but in the meantime this looks it comes closest.
In the demo at least the combat felt a bit odd - like you had this huge selection of really neat combat options, but the enemies stood no chance of keeping up with you. Glad to hear the full game puts up more of a fight! I'm definitely intrigued - hell, those lo-fi 3D bits alone have me giddy to check this out, I'm a sucker for that aesthetic.
It will put up a pretty good fight and you can up the difficulty too! Just be aware once you select a difficulty I didn't see a way to change it.

I’m so glad this is as good as the Eshop makes it look! Definitely one for the wish list. The dungeons look kinda beautiful in n MHt favourite artstyle!

I didn't get 100 percent yet, to do that you'll be looking at I would say 20 plus hours

I saw some mixed reviews on the r/metroidvania subreddit so I used the $20 I was gonna spend on the game on crosscode instead since I’ve been wanting to play that one for a while. But having watched this review this game does look right up my alley so I might have to get it when the physical release drops 🤔

I had a very different experience with this game on the switch And I really wanted to like this game all the surfaces feel like glass because once your character gets momentum She likes to slide I've played it for 8 hours and my thumbs are hurting The wall jump is less than to be desired The healing mechanic works Sometimes Sometimes it works when you want it to sometimes it just doesn't want to work at all Even at full pulse Which can also add to the frustration Especially if you've gone a while without saving but thankfully the checkpoint We're not too bad saves whatever you want to call them And as far as shops Go I am 8 hours in and the only thing that I've bought out of a shop so far is the memory chips I bought all the memory chips but I've bought nothing else in the game Because I can't afford it Although there is probably only a total of 30 things in the whole game to buy And that's being generous For as much gold as enemies and loot drops it's way overpriced The pixel art is gorgeous and the story is OK I found the Mini games kind of frustrating And because of the jumping and momentum mechanic Where every surface feels like either ice or glass Platforming can be very frustrating Because of this And I thought the soundtrack was a lot less than to be desired although it's not a complete deal-breaker it is hard on the thumbs I give the switch version of this game a 7 out of 10 for all you switch fans out there that were wondering

Is there any weapons and armor to equip? I didn’t notice any different equipment in the video.
The sword is a big part of the story/gameplay so upgrading is more based around that and equipping new skills.

They have the switch version listed at 21.99 USD with a 10 percent discount so I imagine it will be similar on PSN.

This game is marketed as a metroidvania, how much of those elements are in the game?
I've been waiting for this game for a long time coz I like the art style, it looks like Touhou Luna Nights. But I tried it for awhile today. I think it's okay, I like the art style and the movements are great but I feel like it lacks musical background. Music only comes when there's an enemy. It feels like I'm just walking around quiet places when there's no enemy. Also it's weird that I still need to get up on my own every time I fall down. Maybe I'll get this on a future sale.

Putting aside the battle system which is pretty good, everything else ranges from mediocre (map design, story, lore...) to downright abysmal (soundtrack, characters, exploration...). Your review is way too positive.
