I played this piece in memory of sanitarians and their efforts against coronavirus during a very delicate breakup that I was going through. For the strength to not fall completely at the time (almost a year ago) that the required rehearsals gave me little by little, I keep this piece tight in my heart. Thank you truly ❤
Never knew Rachmaninoff composed quartets. This is absolutely beautiful. Why not more performed? I can hear the influence of Tchaikovsky and Borodin in this quartet.
Rachmaninoff has always been divisive. During his career conservative musicians saw him as too metropolitan and not “Russian” enough, simultaneously the modernist musicians saw him as antiquated and too conservative. He still divides opinion in academic institutions today… This early piece was written whilst he was still a student under Tchaikovsky (if my dates are correct). It sounds like Tchaikovsky to be honest, and doesn’t yet have that signature sliding heartbreaking chromaticism we all love from the “signature” Rachmaninoff sound that will appear in the Concerto no. 2, Rhapsody, Preludes, etc.
Sergei Rachmaninoff - String Quartet no. 1 in G minor, unfinished

How the hell they dislike Rachmaninoff compositions at his time?
Vdd
Well, they were under and totalitarian communist regime, so maybe that's why.
Snobbery?

@@SpirosDeI oh cool!
Such a cute ending to the third movement
02:55 so fucking unreal :(
so bittersweet and so very sad. Thank you so much for uploading. Deep work.
I prefer combining 2 Rachmaninoff's string quartet movements as a completed string quartet, I expect to see this performance in future.

wish he had finished this, a delightful quartet.
Can anyone recommend any pieces similar to the Romance section?
So so beautiful.
Why does this start with the 2nd movement? Where is the 1st?
The work is unfinished; only the 2nd and 3rd movements were completed.
When he wrote the second concerto he also wrote the second and third movements first. I usually like them more than his first movements too
Beethoven after Wagner

Un peu éclaté quand même
Il a bien fait de pas se spécialiser dans le quatuor à cordes
