Would people be expected to bow/curtsy as the carriage carrying the King & Queen passes by them or is just giving them a wave okay
Bows and curtsies when being presented on a one to one basis and also on occasions like Coronations and formal ceremonies, but a wave is fine for things like Royal Ascot
People can if they choose to, but no-one is expected to these days.
They are just being curtious
Curtsies are normally reserved for meeting the Royals face to face. But the Curtsies from the crowd showed a lovely respect for the Cown even though it wasn't strictly necessary. I thought it was a wonderful touch of respect from the crowd.
