14:14 love the emotions here especially Rose, if you actually saw the original departure you would have needed far more tissues, original version was really sad and beautiful fully done Karou actually met Kenshin further down the road and didn't appear behind her, he appear with the fireflies and dissappear with them when he left her broken and crying and the tone of music made you get even more emotional
@@ReactCity 👌🏽yup and if you eventually see the original will hit you harder lol, can't wait for you guys to finally see the epic Kyoto Arc it literally is 🔥 🔥 Shishio and his group is no joke
Totally!! I remember crying for a long while back then... had to go back to re-watch it was very beautiful done in Original. Im glad tho for new viewers remake reached them as well.. unfortunately that ending song killed the mood for me...
You guys were right, the Kioizaka Incident is indeed an historical event that took place. The names of the ones who killed him are accurate in the anime too; the rest can be found on the net. On that note, as you already know Saito is also based on the real life Saito Hajime. It turns out that the real life one also joined the police when the war was over and he also adopted the fake name of Goro Fujita. One of the great aspects of this anime is how it mixes real history with fiction in a way that is seamless and makes sense. For example When Okubo was killed, the way someone got to him first in the anime and then the others took credit for it, could pass for reality as there would be no way to know unless some of the ones that took credit told the ''truth''. Yet we know this part was fictional and an anime addition. This scene shows what was earlier said in the episode, Shishio worked from the shadows, and it shows since they planned the assassination of Okubo in a way that it got disguised by an already planned attempt by other people to assassinate him. The other detail that the anime said why Shishio got ''eliminated'' by the government is that he knew the dirty secrets of it. So it wasn't only because he was ambitious and dangerous. Let's imagine for a second it was Kenshin in his stead, and Kenshin knew too many dark secrets, regardless if he was ambitious or not, there is a high chance the government would have still tried to erase him. That is what didn't sit well with Yahiko. It goes to show not all is black and white, and even the people trying to create a new era of peace did many questionable things. Meanwhile the one being called dangerous or ambitious, basically got backstabbed. Much like real life.
i enjoy pseudo historial things being in animes. So far i do feel a bit bad for shishio though ofc he is off the deep end. It could be argued he is simply doing what everyone used to do which is why we enjoy this so much.
22:29 It’s a real historical event. Those people are the disgruntled samurais who tried to avenge their leader who got killed in a civil war called Satsuma Rebellion (which is a war in the movie The Last Samurai). It could be said that what happened to Okubo is a direct consequence to what happened in the Last Samurai and if you watched that movie, you will think that Okubo deserves to die.
Listening to your discussion as I type this out (somewhere around the 23 minute mark on the video), just wanted to say I have really appreciated your guys reactions and discussions of this anime. Kenshin Himura is one of my favorite protagonists of all time (my favorite moments of his all come next season), much of the messaging of this series about redemption I also seriously love and gravitate towards. Really this is a series that helped form who I became as a person as I grew up, when this remake first got announced I was first excited like I was a kid again but secondly extremely worried because of the controversy regarding the mangaka and how that would impact it's success. I have not had many good content creators to follow this remake with, you guys in fact are the ONLY BLIND content creators I got to watch any content in regard to this series. Just for giving it a shot I really want you to know that I am very appreciative for your reactions to Kenshin. It is a huge bonus that you all enjoyed this first season and want to see more! I definitely support the decision to WAIT on all Kenshin content until we get a season 2 for this series. Voice Actors for Shishio and other S2 characters are already cast, so while we didn't get an "official" announcement for a S2, we are getting a season 2! I will definitely be back for those reactions and with Kenshin ending right now I will be here for Frieren which I have been in love with this season!
thanks for all the kind comments and info over the course of this! Kenshin really surprised all of us with how enjoyable it was and its tone. I can really feel that its going to pop off next season

You'll end it up loving my Shishio-sama. He's one of the best villians ever created. They will adapt the whole manga and today they will make the official announcement of the second season so wait patiently for it, don't go to look for other stuffs so you can enjoy the story entirely. As a long time fan I enjoyed watching you guys cause it made me feel happy you liked it. Lidenfilms and the staff did a tremendous job with this first season and I cannot wait to watch the Kyoto Arc. It'll be a pleasure to watch it with you guys ❤.
This is the second reactor I’ve seen imply they think Shishio was the “current” or recent Hitokiri. This all happened during the Meiji revolution, which ended 10 years ago
Love these predictions for season 2. You picked up on Sojiro being "like Yahiko but evil" and there are way more parallels coming, to show what could have happened to Kenshin if he hadn't met Kaoru and the gang.
Basically, during the Revolution, Shishio was a shadow assassin for the Imperialist side and did all their dirty jobs in Kenshin's place since Kenshin had been moved to the first lines. That gave Shishio a loooot of potential blackmail materials once they won and he was the kind of guy who would use it. The imperialist leaders knew that, so they jumped him during the last big battle, when they no longer needed him.
Late to the part but you guys should absolutely watch Trust and Betrayal, the four-port OVA that is Kenshin's origin story as Battousai the assassin who finally had had enough of death and war.
Don't watch anything else! They will cover the stuff from OVAs in this series if they keep going. The OVAs mainly exist bc the whole manga was not animated in the 90's series. The only thing you should consider doing is watching season 1 of 90s series now that you've finished season 1 of this one
31:59 So happy you guys enjoyed literally is one of my favorite Animes for more than 20 years, literally was waiting hoping and praying they eventually would remake with modern animation and they finally did, just need them reach the Jinchu Arc which is after the Kyoto Arc, really hope y'all would eventually watch original version cause when the the and awesome ost hits you, you would be like the emotions wow lol Also when you learn how he gets his scars which will be more in Jinchu Arc you will cry it's a really tragic powerful story for Kenshin, tc and God bless you guys 🤗
Can you please avoid spoiling more? You and another commenter get overtly excited to the point you can't restrain yourself and start describing future events and future characters. I've seen the comments and they spoil what part of the drama for the next episode could be and which direction it will take. They are already sharp and have good intuition, they can connect the dots, so you spoiling any small detail can literally ruin the series for them. If you really love the anime, allow others to experience it to the fullest.
Apologies not intention that's why I just drop hints to look out for, I don't like to intentionally spoil things for this epic anime just intention to keep them engaged and hyped, apologies if you find I exposed to much and will try to contain as much in future.
Okubo was succeeded by Hirobumi Ito, who would become Japan's first prime minister. Although many Japanese are not familiar with him, Ito was involved in several assassinations, burnings, and major incidents at the end of the Edo period, such as the Ikedaya and Teradaya murders, and had fought in battles with the Shinsengumi. He was not known as a "manslayer," but he was a skilled swordsman. In a very bad way, Japan's first prime minister was a hardcore terrorist at the end of the Edo period.
I don’t expect you to do it, but I’d really appreciate you watching the 1996 version. Thank you so much for these reactions!❤ Also there is a masterpiece OVA Trust and betrayal 1999 that covers Kenshins past as Hitokiri Battousai. You should watch it after season 2. Such a great piece of media.
While you are waiting for season 2. Consider watching the 4 episode OVA series Rurouni Kenshin Tsuiokuhen. It covers Kenshin's time as a manslayer during the Bakumatsu 10+ years prior to the main story and what motivated him to be become the person he is today.
@@stampoulisrafael5262 Not really, while the ova shows the antagnoist of the Jinchu arc, they never give him any attention or hint at his importance. Personally I just think it be a damn shame if someone getting their first taste of Kenshin from the 2023 series doesn't watch the best piece of media ever released by the series.
@@stampoulisrafael5262 Sorry which OVA are you talking about? Tsuiokuhen/Trust and Betrayal that talks about things during Kenshin's past. Or Seisohen/Reflectioms that go over the future? I agree Reflections spoils things, I don't think Trust and Betrayal does though.
I would say that the season as a whole was good. The last few episodes though I encourage you to watch the 90's original version. There was so much more flair and impact in the fight with Saito and Kenshin's goodbye was so much more beautiful and tragic. Very much recommend watching those episodes at the very least.
Beware of spoilers from one of your regular commenters. If by any chance you haven't read comments from *rallyvincent23* for this video then don't. His comment spoils a couple important characters for Kenshin. You're only suppose to find out about that further into the story. Again, Be careful with his comments from now on if you don't want to get spoiled.
Before going into the comments, I already knew some people wouldn't be able to hold themselves back and would start spoiling stuff.... specially since this was the last episode of this season.
The live actions movies are good, especially "Origins", the last one. But yeah, heavy spoilers. Imo you started with this media, it's better if you stick with it. Then you can watch the rest

So before I watch your reaction and discussion here, I gotta apologize. This anime made me look like a looney liar! I will explain myself here, the scene where Kenshin tells Kaoru he is leaving for Kyoto which happened right outside the Kamiya dojo took place in the 90's anime. However the difference in these scenes (aside obvious things like music and art/animation styles) was the setting of those scenes, apparently this is more manga accurate than the 90s anime was but I definitely preferred the scenery of the original anime for that scene which was surrounded by fireflies. Apparently in the manga there were fireflies in a single panel but they werent surrounding Kenshin and Kaoru like the 90s anime depicted. This version is obviously trying to be more manga accurate, as a fan of the original anime though I have to say that Kenshin's farewell here was less impactful because of this change. With that said I will give my opinion on something from this finale that I liked over the 90's anime. Kenshin during his farewell explaining to Kaoru about the Hitokiri that lives deep within him, in this version they do a much better job of having Kenshin highlight the need for him to do this because no matter what he has done in these last 10 years that side of him is still there. It subtly highlights how much he cares for Kaoru and it also highlights a flaw in his character, there is a part of himself that relishes in battle and living between life and death. Couple that with the issues involving Shishio and you get Kenshin's decision to leave, as he stated the times are not allowing him to remain still any longer he must wander once more. Now, finally onto your reaction and discussion! Hopefully you guys as first time viewers enjoyed this and are looking forward to a second season!
