- It has been a while since we’ve done a recipe from Mrs. Rorer’s Sandwiches of 1912. So today, give the Cheese Sandwich Number 2 a go, shall we? The Cheese Sandwich Number 2 is quite different from the Cheese Sandwich Number 1 that I did back in October of 2021. It’s basically a Welsh Rarebit-esque sandwich that has a top. Which sounds pretty alright with me.

I predict that “You Can Never Have Too Much Dairy” will skyrocket up the charts reach number one!
Yeah, and the Metamucil song will be number two (no pun intended).
I came for the sandwich, I stayed for the dairy jingle.
Same 😀
It violates a key rule, but a slice of smoked ham would be a good add
My favorite addition to a grilled cheese sandwich was my Mother's homemade bread and butter pickles. They were sliced paper thin with lots of onion strings - delicious!!!! Her lime pickles and bread and butter pickles were legendary. Great video - thanks!!
Pickled okra was a great choice.
Love Mrs Rorer’s artery-hardening sandwiches!
Okra's are such an undervalued vegetable, they go especially well with tomatoes and cheese.
Thanks for keeping things interesting by adding new ingredients as plus-ups. :)
Can't have enough BARRY in your life
Toast that bread in a pan with butter.....yum!
Perfect snack for when I listen to Song 2.
Woo hoo!
this seems like a pretty well thought out sandwich for the time being
Ive had welsh rarebit in my recipes-to-make queue for about a year now. Thanks for the reminder Barry.
I like Major Grey's Chutney on cheese sandwiches
I could feel you resisting the urge to say bright pickly pop in this video
The Cheese Sandwich of all types is highly underrated. And Mrs. Rorer rocks!
I enjoy the history tidbits, btw. Like when was processed American cheese marketed? 1916. Stuff I need to know.
Rare-bit adjacent sando. Looks pretty good.
Wait til the 'Got Milk' marketing board hears your vocal stylins'. The dollars will start pouring in, my friend!
Consider adding anchovy paste to the bread, give it a "scotch woodcock" vibe. Please consider a video series riffing on the Monticristo sandwich, you could call it The Monticristo Diaries, or not as you wish.
I would plus it up with mustard and chutney, then toast it.
Paused the vid @ :54 and I predict the plus up is-The Grilled Cheese Treatment! NOPE.Pickled Okra from Barry's Infinite pantry.
Nope, didn't see that plus-up coming! I think I'd try some tomato chutney on that 🍅
Oooohhhh, pickled okra, yum.
My plus-up would be India relish, with a few verses of Killing Me Softly.
Needs more cheese - ha, ha! I like pickled okra on the side of a sandwich in place of a cuke pickle. In summer, I'll make my own fridge pickled okra.
If you judge sandwiches from this book, are you a Rorer Juror?
😂
😂 30 Rock for the win! 🙌
I’d love to see you try the sandwich my grandma always made for me after school! She called it a “cheese sandwich” and it was white bread lathered up inside with margarine, and a couple slices of Kraft singles. Cut into triangles of course. And no, it wasn’t cooked. She did her grilled cheese differently.
Horrific
I love okra pickles, they're one of my favorite snacks! Just a shame a jar of them around here is 5 bucks
Day 31 of asking Barry to make the sandwich I submitted!~~
For sure needs some hot sauce on this bad boy. Never had pickled Okra, interesting. Cheers Barry!
mmmmmmmmmm pickled okra. I love okra, and I love pickled okra
I'll eat that, but with either bacon or smoked sardines to plus it up.
Love okra pickles.
Number 2!!!
Okay but I was expecting you to add a number 2.
This sandwich is more cheese than sandwich!
I enjoy (spicy) picked okra too! Never thought to put in any sandwich.
Although you didn't do the "grilled cheese" treatment, I am curious of your opinion on a grilled cheese method.
Grilled cheese in the air fryer : yay or nay?
If "yay" what settings ? (Temperature and time)
My plus up would be pickled peppers of some kind. Maybe some paprika, black pepper or cayenne.
im fascinated by what specifically they meant by american cheese if not the processed stuff. i mean what was the flavor range of "American" cheese vs European and what kind? i understand there are going to be huge differences im just curious what that ranged like as far as flavor is concerned. like am i gonna find out american cheese from back then has extra sugar in it giving it a unique flavor? anyone who has answers please elaborate, gracias
Wow Barry... it's been a while since you've done a sandwich with some real protein on it… How about a nice Dagwood sandwich with about 6 inches of meat piled high
Cheese is a good protein.
Where did cheddar cheese originate? If I didn't know what American cheese actually was and had to guess, my vote would go to cheddar.
This sandwich is an oxymoron. There definitely won’t be any number twos with all that dairy.
I dunno, just feels like when you add egg to a cheese sandwich it's not just a cheese sandwich anymore.
These recipes books are too liberal with their naming of things
Sorry, I won’t eat any sandwich with Number 2 in it.
that’s a crappy decision 😉🤣
Liederkranz.
wreath of songs is a sick name for a sandwich
@@AllfatherBlack Google.
I think I would have added smoked pepper, salt, paprika, and a little mushroom. sounds like a good omelet sandwich. going to have to try picked ocra however, that is interesting
