Thank you SO much for posting this! We recently adopted tow guinea pigs that came with their own cages and we want to make them one big cage so they can hang out together. This video did a great job explaining how to build the cage.
I'm planning on getting a guinea pig, and I'm sure I want a C&C cage, but I had no idea how to make the cloroplast box. This video cleared a lot of things up for me. Thanks!
super easy instructions thank you very much. i just got my guinea pig yesterday. i look forward to building him a bigger and better cage thanks to you :)
Thanks - this is really helped me out. I am currently looking into making a c&c cage for my 2 guinea pigs. It was great to see how easy it is to put one together.
Thank-you for the info! We just started fostering and I am thinking about making one of these. The piggies we would get are usually gonna have babies so this would be great!
@agdollgrace Coroplast is used because its waterproof, so unless you have something to put between the cardboard and the bedding as a water barrier, you should go with coroplast. Coroplast can be bought at most sign stores. In my very small town there are over 10 sign shops that sell coroplast for about $20 for an 8x4 foot sheet. Also some DIY stores, craft stores, and some Home Depot or Lowes stores sell it, but your best bet is always a sign store.
You get the kits of the wire cubes from any big box mart like wal-mart, Target, Cost Co, etc... they are usually in the shelving/storage are which, for some reason, is usually by the laundry baskets.
wow, thank you for making this video, its much clearer to me how to make one now im planing on getting a hedgehog so i wont use your exact measuremnts, b/c he'll smaller and ill only have one, but thanks again. you explainded it wonderfuly and thouroly for me to understang, and im vary greafull :3
I got Coroplast (ask for plastic signboards) and zip cables from Home Depot. I got the Cube grids from Bed Bath and Beyond Total price was about $50. MUCH cheaper then the cages at pet stores.
@lexxyng My grids were from Home Depot. I got them for $20. Target grids are around the same price as well. The Target grid squares are much too big for Guinea Pigs as they can stick their heads through and can choke. I don't know about hedgehogs though. I suggest you also should buy some cable ties (zip ties) because Grids usually don't come with a lot of connectors.
You can get the grids at Walmart, (out of town for us 3 hour drive) but even in a small town like ours you can get them in a hardware store like Loma Lumber and Home Hardware.
wtf? people keep thumbing down these comments! anyways, this is the way i made my cage, and i think it's alot better and cheaper than the ones you buy.
I don't know- but it is corrugated plastic. you can get a 4 X 8 fot sheet at ant sign store for about $20. it takes about 1 day for them to order it for you
@lindsaygraham101 Lol you just use half vinegar and half water and spray down the cage and that gets out all the pee. With these cages its reccomended to use fleece!
Shops that Make signs have it in a variety of colors. Make sure you tell them its for guinea pigs, not for making your own sign (you might get a discount)
@GlamourGirl162 the spaces inbetween each grid space is 1.5" I haven't had hamsters before but I'm pretty sure that they would escape through the holes. I wouldn't reccomend it.
The plastic box you make, as the edge of the box is exposed within the cage on the inside edge of the wire squares, dont the pigs chew on this and strip it back?
i used card board insted of chloraplast is thant oky because moneys tight rite now cuz were moving is it oky for my piggie of is it harful i put niping spray for he wouldent bite on it
I'm thinking about making a C&C cage, but really bothered about the prices and places I would have to go to find the materials. I live in England, and on all the websites I've visited, not one mentions any shops in England to buy the materials needed. Is there anyway I could possibly make a homemade cage, using other types of materials?
I found the grids at Bed,Bath & beyond but I can't find the coroplast anywhere!!! I live in the US where can I find it plzzzzz help me!! I wild appreciate it
QUESTION QUESTION HERE PLZ ANSWER ALRIGHT SO! I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THESE THINGS BUT I NEED TO GET THIS CAGE SO MY QUESTION IS where do you get all the stuff in the beginning like the connectors and the little cube grid things plz answer!
What is the name of the C&C grids and is there a website that I could get them from as im in the UK and i dont know where to get them. also is there any coroplast website that I could have a look at. I really want to make a cage like this because i cant afford to buy one, so any help or advice is appreciated, thanks.
The cheapest place (in my experience) with the correct sized grids is Bed, Bath and Beyond. Target's has them, but the inner squares are too large so stay away from them.
They would have to jump to go through the holes, which BABIES can do, so if you have babies, you will have to keep them somewhere else temporarily until they are a little bigger
Where do i buy this so called "cholroplast" would menards have some because i saw something similar to that it might have been the same thing and what is the average price?
@lexxyng OH WAIT. Sorry, my grids are from Bed Bath and Beyond. My COROPLAST is from Home Depot! Good luck with your cage! If you think the squares of the grid are still too big for your hedgehog, you can always use wire shelving and tie them together with zip ties. Good luck!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! ur a LIFE SAVER!!!!
I don't know how much you would need, but the Coroplast comes in 4 by 8 foot sheets. kind of like good old fashioned paneling
@lexxyng My grids were from Home Depot. I got them for $20. Target grids are around the same price as well. The Target grid squares are much too big for Guinea Pigs as they can stick their heads through and can choke. I don't know about hedgehogs though.

Thank you very nice cages!
You can get the coroplast at a sign shop. most of the time they are sold in 4x8 sheets.
thanks! building ours this weekend!!
I don't know- but it is corrugated plastic. you can get a 4 X 8 fot sheet at ant sign store for about $20. it takes about 1 day for them to order it for you
pretty much any store that sells plastic, in ny where i live i found this place named Plastic City, and it had a variety of coroplast colors.
thats great that u rescue animals! 5 star!
about how much will every thing cost??? nice video might be making my own if my parents let me
It was donated to our shelter, but it costs about $25 for a 4 x 8 foot sheet if you pick it up yourself
@lindsaygraham101 Lol you just use half vinegar and half water and spray down the cage and that gets out all the pee. With these cages its reccomended to use fleece!
This really helped thanks!
Thx alot! now my guinea has a home :D
thanks but i have a question wat do u think makes a better pet, a guinea pig or an aquatic turtle?
Shops that Make signs have it in a variety of colors. Make sure you tell them its for guinea pigs, not for making your own sign (you might get a discount)
a lot of people build racks out of the cubes, but it looks quite difficult. Or you coul buy a petstore stand or a folding table from BJ's orsomething
which is really good, 'cause i think the hamster might just fit through the wires???
@TheMrTwinchannel you can get them at target or bed bath and beyond maybe even lowes
I would say maybe 2 by 3, or 1.5 by 4 (you can overlap them), but piggies as a rule don't like to be alone
@GlamourGirl162 the spaces inbetween each grid space is 1.5" I haven't had hamsters before but I'm pretty sure that they would escape through the holes. I wouldn't reccomend it.
@Destroyer4756 You can get it at sign shops, maybe a hobby store too.
The plastic box you make, as the edge of the box is exposed within the cage on the inside edge of the wire squares, dont the pigs chew on this and strip it back?
I was wondering the same as Audrey...where do you buy the chloroplast?

i used card board insted of chloraplast is thant oky because moneys tight rite now cuz were moving is it oky for my piggie of is it harful i put niping spray for he wouldent bite on it
