    I know I'm not alone in saying I REALLY appreciate you openly sharing your low cost solutions. Thank You!
    Edit to add: Use a little cutting oil (motor oil works too) when drilling metal. It lubes the bit, floats away cuttings and helps keep everything cooler. All good things for preserving bits.

    Awesome build there mate, a little tip, cut 3 spaces from the tube you used to make sure the gap is correct, then bolt them into place when your ready to weld, it will keep it nice and straight and help reduce any warping!

      @@OverlandUnderBudget I agree with @maarkbar. I am newbie welder also and the most import thing that I found and am always told in welding is to get in a comfortable position. You will enjoy it better and your welds will be better and easier. Look for a cart on CL I did and I welded a 3/16" plate to make the top bigger. You can add locking wheels from HF for easily moving. Also get yourself a Automatic Center Hole Punch, makes drilling holes so much easier.

    Overland Under Budget, If you really under the budget and you don't want to purchase the circular saw blade or no circular saw, you can cut two pieces of the 3/16 flat metal plate slightly larger than the template. Tack weld them together. Drill the pivot holes on the metal according to template. Install the 3 short bolts to hold them together then cut the outside edges of the template with a 4 1/2 inch angle grinder ( 5-packs Dewalt cutting blade for $7.98 @ Lowes). Now you have a perfect matching plate. I've been wanting to design one for my 4RUNNER but I haven't a chance. To much dirt play time. This Idea give me an incentive to build my roof rack to hang the awning. Thank you for sharing this great design. It sure cut the time for me to design and build one.

    Cutting fluid will help a lot while drilling. If you don't want to buy it you can dilute some Elmer's glue with water and pour a little in the hole two or three times while drilling. It'll go quicker and spare your drill bits a little since all your viewers are probably on tight budget.

    about the welding settings. for short circuit mig, if it sounds like cooking bacon youre ok. but, you can find setting charts online and adjust from there.
    theres also a few apps for android (i assume there must be some for ios as well) that you write what size are you welding and it will tell you the basic settings, again, for you to start adjusting cause every machine is different.

      Can't wait for the vid about the tarp, if I'm not mistaken I believe harbor freight has a 30% off coupon for all tarps through the end of the month. the small percentage won't make that much of a difference but every penny helps in these currently times.

  • @iammattjones
    @iammattjones 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Wanted to emphasize some sort of cutting oil, and get yourself a center punch or spring loaded punch from harbor freight. They are like $8 and make starting the drill bit much easier. It won't wander around. Once I get my garage finished up I'm definitely making one of these. Thanks for doing the hard work!
