    Exciting stuff starts at 3:15
    PLEASE NOTE: We say in the video the car comes with Roadstone tyres, however, the factory tyres are Giti GitiComfort 228. This test car featured a replacement (Roadstone) tyre on the front right corner. We apologise for any confusion.

    Honestly the comment section. Are you seriously expecting a race car? They’re not designed for that. MG actually has 7 years roadside which is nothing to sneeze at. It’s a basic car that gets you from A to B. And not everyone has a massive budget for a new car. I’d much prefer a new one of these than trust a second hand car

    We bought one of these for my daughter in 2020, $16,500 on road. It's nearing 70k on the odo, no issues.
    It's a cheap and cheerful car, a very simple people mover. Mostly aimed at the young and old. People keep comparing it to Kia picanto, which is smaller and shower than this. Imo this one looks better.

    Hey guys, so I got one last year and am slowly modifying it. Not heavily but am planning for exhaust upgrades at the minimum. Added an EVC throttle controller and the car is far more responsive with that extra fuel dump. Tectronic (S) is great, semi manual tectronic makes all the difference (it shifts automatically at 6-7k depending on break-in) and goes from 2nd to 1st auto as well.

      Nonsense. I've driven a bunch of cars from glacially slow but delightful Morris 1100, to 360 cube ex-chaser Valiant Charger and GTS Monaro 308, and now Swift Sport. And I've driven at Bathurst. You drive the car you have under you at the time.
      Cars that are towing, or just full of passengers and luggage, trucks and buses, some 250 cruisey motorcycles... all these are not dangerous unless they have a bad or inattentive driver. And lots of little *automatic* cars like Swifts and Piccantos are basically in the same ballpark to 100km/h.

Again, you may reply 🤪, but I have lived and breathed cars all my life and it just bugs me when someone invests 5 seconds into making a sweeping statement that could mislead someone.

    I will never forget the day my BMW was taken away and I was delivered this abomination in yellow. I had it for 6 weeks.
    I was shocked at the fuel economy it returned for the performance you didn't get.
    On my first outing in it I was exiting my estate and thought I'd give it some to get up the hill - what I didn't realise is my foot was already to the floor. I had come from a twin turbo 6cyl BMW to an actual asthmatic economy POVOBOX on wheels.
    Another time we loaded the car up - my friend, partner, and, a client, along with as much as we could fit in the "boot".
    Going up an overtaking stretch we were passed by a sunshine coast cement truck - try as I may, the truck pulled away.

    I could almost feel myself getting older watching this thing get to 100. 4 Spd Auto. Really? I remember the day when cheap = Hyundai. Now cheap = MG. It's always a worry when you look at the Wheels magazine price guide and under the THE PICK: section, it says: Choose a Suzuki Swift, new or second hand. In other words, don't buy this car.

  • @robertsmit3007

    One thing you did not touch on is the fact that you cannot dim the OMG bright dash lights. I love my mg and it is worth noting it is quicker than any v6 commodore from the lights. I do not think a mazda 2 would come close. I have had my car on the scan tool and it shows that all this is happening on 70% of the value of the throttle body opening.
    Just those undimable dash lights

      It's interesting. Someone else commented that their MG3 redlines on the upshifts, but the one tested here didn't do that. So maybe this one was a bit off-spec? If a buyer was really keen, they could have the map analysed and even tweaked.

    • @rosskelly8268
      @rosskelly8268 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a bit of a fun fact, the acceleration of the little auto in the video above may seem very tame by today's standards, but it's almost exactly the acceleration (and also same top speed) as a 186 Holden Kingswood manual from all those years ago. A random comment I guess that probably means nothing to people under 60 years of age...

  • @warthunder8624
    @warthunder8624 ปีที่แล้ว

    0.481g You won't even feel the acceleration 😂

    • @rosskelly8268
      @rosskelly8268 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you will. Half a g is a solid push. What you don't understand is that it's a *peak* reading, and it applies possibly to just a few seconds in the middle-to-upper end of 1st gear.
      While a lot of the acceleration pull is pretty ordinary, those couple of seconds at half a g will actually feel crisp.

I could prefer 5 speed manual, the ride is awful, they could have done so much better, really nosy engine on take off, The fact they dont have android auto, lets this down. I don't understand why people would buy this rubbish. It's going to take more than trinkets to cover up essentially a 30 year old drivetrain. For a little more you can have the excellent mazda 2, or Suzuki swift; or even a Hyundai, or Kia. People that buy mg3s have probably never driven a decent car.
