      Only 64 gb with no expandable storage is the only drawback for me but it’s a big one. I have lots of music I like on my phone.

    • @adamled99
      @adamled99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Trainy2 I don't like that either. I have a 64GB SD in my phone, but as far as compromises go, I'd trade the extra storage for the headphone jack any day.

    • @Trainy2
      @Trainy2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need to compromise that when there’s so many other options at this price point with both. The best thing about this phone is the camera from what I can tell but taking amazing pictures isn’t a huge deal for me so I’ll pass on this one.

    • @adamled99
      @adamled99 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well yeah Google phones have the reputation of camera king so you have to look at it in relative terms.

      @@Trainy2 Plus these only have 4GB RAM at that price, which is kinda easy to get stutter in a couple of years to come, especially if you have some heavy games and social media apps on that, unless if these shipped with Android Go.

    Some people get so caught up on 670 processor. You just can't look at the higher number or at an antutu and say "OK. That is higher so it is gonna perform much better". It doesn't work that way. This phone has a stock android/ios type feel where it is optimized so well. The Pixel 3a feels different than other android phones even with similar stock interface. So snappy and responsive. No clutter junk or horrible skin to bog it down. It has a great looking 1080p rather than quadHD so it also improves performance. My Moto z2 Force (835) which is blazing fast and I love as well feels similar in speed to my Pixel 3a (670). I ran antutu on both and 835 shows higher but real world use is more important especially if one isn't playing heavy performance gaming which I don't... Also battery life performance is great. Moto got like 6 hours and I actually get 6.5-8 hours screen time on my phone Pixel 3a with 3,000 mAh battery (normal phone use) over 24 hour span. I will get 2 days battery life on a charge when I go back to my normal hour usage.

    Polycarbonate (well spotted and well researched) is the king of plastics. It's extremely tough its what car bumpers are made from Lol. Due to it's lightweight and high strength, some car manufacturers have looked at making entire car bodies from it, but it's too expensive compared to steel or aluminium!

    I'm loving my 3a so far, but I was surprised to not hear about the headphone jack making a comeback. It may be a minor thing for most people, but it just made my life a lot easier when I take my dog for a walk. I can use earbuds now instead of an over-the-head bluetooth set.

    • @Robotkiller14
      @Robotkiller14 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any complaints with it so far?

    • @NecessaryEvil1980
      @NecessaryEvil1980 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Robotkiller14 honestly, the screen protector that I bought for it could be a little bit bigger. But the phone itself? No. I switched from Cricket to Google FI, and that's been great so far. I'll knock $100 off my bill, I'm getting 3x the speed I got before, and signal should be better than before, as I can bounce between towers. Battery life is just great. Speakers are pretty good, and the haptic feedback is just eerily strong. When it makes a clicking sound, it's like the whole device vibrates, rather than being able to tell there's a vibration motor in one section of it. It's almost like the whole phone vibrates and resonates with the sound. Way better than the Pixel 2 we are using for our on-call phone. I'm definitely interested to see OnePlus's new phone, as I'd been saving up for it, but this phone just made more sense. I'm not gaming, I'm not doing anything where I'll feel constrained by the step down vs. modern flagships (especially since the only reason I'm upgrading is due to battery degradation on my 3.5 year old Nexus 6P). Saving a big chunk of money between the lower retail price + discount through FI makes the lesser upgrade a sensible choice that I have no regrets with so far. I just wish it'd hurry up and load the Q beta that I signed up for!

    • @NateBraska
      @NateBraska 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NecessaryEvil1980 Good summary. I've been interested to try Fi, but haven't made the jump. Mainly, anything over 1 GB of cell data and Cricket has better rates (if you can live with the throttling). Currently on a Z3 with Total Wireless, but have a 3a XL on the way and excited to see the camera difference. Very happy they went with an OLED screen at this price; really helpful for the future Android Q dark mode

    • @NecessaryEvil1980
      @NecessaryEvil1980 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NateBraska Well, before I had Cricket, I had Ting, so I'm pretty good at keeping my usage low/on WiFi. With my average data usage, I'll probably pay pretty close to what I paid before. In all honesty, I'm less concerned about the increased price or speeds...but am really looking forward to having tethering back.

    Lot to like about that phone. I'd miss the processing power, but it's a truly worthy replacement if something were to happen to my flagship device.

    Headphone audio quality? Everyone uses their phones for listening to music, but no tech channels ever talk about the headphone audio quality. :(

      Wait a few days and check out Juan Bagnell's channel. He's big into phone audio and will definitely be testing it out. He only done a first impressions video on the 3a so far, but more in-depth reviews are coming.

    just an idea: why don't manifactures make phone displays out of plastic (really clear plastic)? i mean, i put a plastic screen protector on mine anyway so... it would solve the cracking display problem... and if you like the feel of glass just put a glass screen protector on.

    Thank you for your review. I use the S10+ as my daily. But I wanted a first time pixal expierence. I phoned Google up and got the 3a XL for 4oo.oo bucks tax included. Wow-we, I was pleasantly surprised at this price it's an excellent phone. That camera, the OLED display and 🔋 are very good. I think someone should tell this phone it's not a flagship. Because it certainly acts like one. I have done countless speed tests with my S10, of course the S10 is faster but not by much? For myself this is the best 4oo I ever spent!

    Thank you for what I consider the best review and analysis of the pixel 3aXL. It is not enough to measure cell phones in a vacuum nor with only specs. I particularly liked the OnePlus 6t comparison.
    Personally I wouldn't get a 6x series processor no matter who made it nor what else they offer me (especially since google has a terrible track record of poor performance, even with a 8x flagship), if this... Thing, is slow right now, wait until 12 months have passed and a security patch comes along, or android Q. I'll be begging for sweet death. I'd rather stick to OP6t, is not like cameras haven't come a long way.
    Cheers.

    Lisa, I can't remember the last time a reviewer even addressed in passing how well a device works as... a PHONE. All of the features are great, but if a device can't hold onto a signal or sounds like you're talking inside a gymnasium, that's a fail for me.

    9:41 Incorrect statement about the OnePlus 6T having expandable storage. It has capacities above 64Gb, sure, but it's built in. It doesn't allow for user expanded storage via a microSD card.

      @yeahhoo86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Processor wise I think the performance will be about the same maybe slightly better. However that being said compared to the original Pixel, you're getting a larger, better quality screen, a way better camera and bigger capacity battery. Not to mention dual speakers. Also since you're coming from the original Pixel, you don't have to give up the headphone jack. I would say for you, I would definitely get 3a/XL.
      I'm currently rocking a Pixel 2 XL, but battery drain has been an issue, that maybe partly due to running the Android Q developer preview. Getting a 3a/XL does sound tempting, but I think I'll hold off to see what the Pixel 4 has in store or maybe take part my 2 XL and install a new battery. And when that process goes horribly wrong I'll run out and get 3a/XL 😂

    It makes the Moto G7 seem over-priced. I bought a Moto X4 for $120, with Pie. It took a dozen updates and a day to get the Pie loaded. But the X4 is a nice phone. I like the 3a, and it's a good price trend. It's kind of wild to think of a $120 phone and a decent 3GB plan from (say) Mint, compared to 5 years ago. If I were spending $90 a month on a plan, maybe I'd be more willing to spend big on a phone. I'd like to have the camera. Google had that one day sale on the P3... If you say it is good it must be good.

      The x4 is a great phone. Only issue is the camera. I even downloaded the pixel camera apk. It definitely does a better job than the stock camera.
