Iam a Good person Sorry kiddo, but the different in weight between the 3 and the 3a is 2 grams. TWO. GRAMS. Lighter, sure, but not too much lighter. It’s definitely going to be much sturdier however.
Tainted Flare Actually, since the phone is more durable now, people are less inclined to use a case. Plastic isn’t going to crack when dropped on the ground, and buyers know that. (Which is the real reason why they shouldn’t be concerned about the plastic body, they know what they’re getting into.)
My two cents: Some people say that the plastic body doesn’t feel as premium as metal or glass, which seems reasonable in a world of silicone, fabric, rubber, and plastic cases. That is until you realize that you can get a slim tempered glass case and bypass the plastic back entirely. (See: ESR “Mimic” Case for Pixel 3a)

Just got a pixel 3a, was a bit concerned about the plastic, as low end budget plastic phones really feel crappy. However I am very impressed with the 3a plastic, doesn't scratch anymore than metal, doesn't shatter if you drop it, keeps a much more consistent temperature and doesn't sacrifice structural strength. Shocked this high quality plastic isn't standard in premium builds cannot see any advantage with glass.

Hiya Tom, my instinctive reaction was yuk plastic! Then I thought about how so called ‘premium’ phones and how we perceive this.... is it the glass back or a one piece bit of aluminium. Alley being a soft metal scratches easy and glass breaks when you drop it so buy a case to put it in for protection that has carefully been crafted to hide the ‘premium’ look/feel!
First thing I always wanted when I bought my expensive new iPhone was a case to protect it and yet I bought it based on the design/look/feel. I just wonder if we are all suckers these days; apple have always been my favourite with regards smart phones and they have done a good job of hiking up the prices and making us feel we had the best product. Android designers which was always considered a poor mans alternative has really done an excellent job of upping their game and producing phones that are great too and their business model has cleverly kept their price point (although not all manufacturers) a bit cheaper than apple. Thus they can cream off a lot more money from the people that cannot afford an iPhone!
Whilst not a fan of google - I like the fact they have put a phone jack in for those that don’t want an earphone radiating inside their phone and of course their camera seems to take great photos. Mind you - the P30 Pro looks interesting and I can’t wait to see what One Plus do. Thanks for the review. :-) Oh and I forgot to mention.... scratches can be buffed out of plastic ;-)

Hey man great video... Here in the states if you go through the Google store and trade in an iPhone SE ( Black Friday sale $79) they'll give you $250 bucks so that brings down the price quite a bit and then they also give you $100 gift card for the Google store . So the Pixel 3a ends up being about $80.

@@gavinclark525 I know a lot about the Moto X4 actually, last year I advised my mom and brother to buy the X4 because it was the best phone around for the price. This year however with the Nokia 7.1 and Pixel 3a it's a more difficult choice.
The main feature of the Moto X4 is actually the ip68 water and dust resistance, nice to have, but not necessary for most people. The camera on the 3a would definitely be a major improvement, the X4 takes decent pictures in good lighing with enough time, but it's rather slow to take a photo and without good lighing it falls flat.
The battery sizes for the Pixel 3a and Moto X4 are exactly the same, and the battery life should be equal as well, the X4 lasts about a day and a half for my mom, who is a light user, and much less for my brother, who is a heavy user.
The experience and longevity of the Pixel 3a will undoubtedly be better due to it being much newer and straight from Google, but it is also more expensive. In the long run I feel the Pixel 3a is a better buy, especially for one who doesn't want to deal with custom ROMs to keep a phone updated and someone who value good cameras.

Wow you guys, thanks to The Tech Chap, you just earned a new subscriber. It's my birthday in 7 days and I'm getting this phone and I hope it won't be a disappointment, but after I watched this video, I reassured my self that I should definitely get this! So in 7 days from 27/10/19 Sunday in Australia, or Saturday in America, I will be getting that phone thanks to you! I prefer the smaller one because I tried the XL dummy phone at a store, and it's only a tiny bit bigger, not much difference, but more money. Thanks again.

Can we just own "the best camera" already? No other camera comes close in general usage. Though the samsung and the iphones have great day light performance they are all put to shame by night sight so that is the end of it when it comes to best camera at least until those companies similarly use ai smarts to get better night vision...but for now Pixel owns the camera. Objectively.
Also, like most reviewers you are making the MISTAKE of comparing the 3a to the top line phone...most people who will be buying it will not only not know what it is like to use a 3 xl (since they don't own it) they would be coming from much slower phones. So you are doing the consumer a better job of reviewing if you compare the 3A to phones in its price range ONLY.
I don't understand why reviewers always do this compare to top phone nonsense when it doesn't matter to the bulk of phone buyers who would be on an UPGRADE path to new phone not on a downgrade one.

@@ATwistedLove I bought my Pixel 3a during Black Friday. I *deny* the claim of "no slow downs at all". There are a few times where the device stutters and skips a bit, but they're gone almost the same time they arrive. The device is durable, but you don't want to throw it at a wall or something. Get a screen protector. Be warned: If you're using a case, make sure it's not so tight that it scratches the phone when you put it on or off. I have an ESR Mimic case that scratched up the left side of my device and I can't hate the company more for that shitty, non-pliable TPU material. Everything is pretty much a pro especially because I jumped on the awesome Pixel 3a sale with the awesome iPhone SE trade-in on google store. The cons of using polycarbonate build, 64gb storage, borders (Ridiculously overblown. It has a solid 75% screen to body ratio) and no waterproof aren't high priorities on my phone wants/needs. At first, I was worried about storage but then I realized all my 32-64 storage phones with 128gb microSD card are well below 64gb actual total storage used.

Prashant Gnawali been about 3 weeks. What I love most is the camera. Helps that it shares the same qualities as the 3. I’m not a gamer so the 3a works perfectly for me. And great battery life!

I still don't get why people charge their phones overnight ..

I would definitely buy that phone. I am not a smartphone junkie but I like to have a decent hardware. What is really important for me is the clean, bloatware-less software - and timely updates to ist newest versions. The price is also in acceptable range - I simply do not have a use-case for a high-end but also an expensive phone. This one hits a sweet-spot. Once my Pixel will die I will definitely go for 3a.

Luca Costantini I’d miss the eco system, but I wouldn’t miss being behind on the innovation. Granted Apple imo still innovate, but it just doesn’t seem as responsive as some Android based devices.

650$ is just below a Pixel 3 thus it's not worth it

I bought the 3a XL and so far really happy with it. Don't notice any lag time. Would have been nice to have kept the wide angle selfie but it's not a big deal. All in all I think this proves we don't need to keep buying expensive phones.

And there is the issue of poor security with Chinese phone makers. Google Pixel is a better buy any day.

    • @eamonob84
      @eamonob84 5 ปีที่แล้ว

This is the reason I will not buy one of the Chinese phones. I still have my old OPO, but it's got a custom ROM running on it and not stock software. Although, security was not as big a concern then since CM was providing their software.

Just got my 3a XL few minutes ago but I am mostly going to wait till I get my screen protector and case before I use it. Whoever I am a Pixel XL user and I am really excited to start using the new one.

@@Thetechchap I disagree, the screen sucks on the 2xl and comparing them side by side at best buy that 1080p screen looks better. The 670 is similar to the 835 and has a better GPU. What is bad is the memory speed.

I remember the mic on pixel 3 was pretty awful. But here it wasn't sound that bad.
Did they change the mic? Or just some software magic?

I got my 3a last Friday. I upgraded from an iPhone 7 and the 3a blows it out of the water. I can only imagine what the difference would be from a iPhone 5.
The 3a is the phone I have been wanting Google to make since they ended the Nexus 5. The camera on the 3a is just amazing. Only two complaints. 1: no 128 gig option. 2: no wireless charging.
