He'd already re-imagined his past. That's why he claimed that he graduated at the top of his class at the Academy, when in fact he had been expelled before graduation. From a diplomatic perspective, that works in the Federation's favor because Starfleet can truthfully tell the other powers that Locarno never actually made it to the rank of Starfleet officer and as a disgraced former cadet his actions were entirely his own and his collaborators.

It's rich of him to get others killed and then to work his hardest to cover up his own ineptitudes and to cast blame on the deceased and tarnish their memories in order for his own ego to be unbruised. Then to blame the higher-ups for failure to inspire? THAT IS RICH.

Freeman was thrilled because she was worried about how she was going to bail Mariner out of this one. But then Mariner called out Locarno on live broadcast, ensuring that Starfleet will just assume that she was playing cooperative captive until Locarno made the mistake of letting her speak.

@@DoctorWhoKage - It was obvious from the sheer hubris of his quadrant-wide broadcast that Locarno's ego was out of control and that he assumed that anybody he spoke to became his subordinate. Mariner punking him like that during said broadcast effectively ruined his recruitment drive because why would the lower decks people he was trying to recruit risk everything to sign up with a guy who couldn't even handle just one Starfleet officer?

I like Ransom's unvarnished take on Locarno. Ransom has over-the-top boldness, but in the end, he is protective of everyone under him and would fight to the potential death to save them. She had seen the cost of Locarno’s egotism when Joshua Albert died for the pursuit of “glory”.

Honestly I feel like their gearing up to bring her back. Even tho she's only been mentioned twice now the whole show is also named after the episode she "died" in. Even since it began I've had a hunch their would be an episode where it's discovered she's alive and they end up rescuing her from a secret cardassian prison camp like what Kira did in the beginning of season 2

    • @TheNoiseySpectator
      @TheNoiseySpectator 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

Ensign Sito was the Bajoran lieutenant who had been part of Locarno's training squad, who eventually got transferred to the Enterprise, and impersonated a Bajoran slave to help that Cardassian spy be smuggled back home?
Well she shouldn't be too hard to revive.
What if the Borg found her body in space and assimilated it.
Then later Starfleet came across a couple of drones during a hostile encounter, and captured them, took them away, and later liberated them from the collective?

And given how the cardassian ls treat prisoner's shed likely be too traumatized to to be an antagonist. @@DoctorWhoKage Sito died in an undercover operation during the dominion war, see the episode "lower decks" on TNG. But the reason why Sito was on that undercover operation was because she was requested to by Picard. The reason why Picard asked for her is because he remembered her as wesley's friend in the academy. Locarno was the head of wesley's friend group, and motivated the group into doing a banned stunt, resulting in the death of a friend. He then proceeds to try to cover up said death as an accident, and not because of the banned stunt, and encouraged the friend group to do the same. Eventually, all of the friend group had to repeat a year, while locarno got kicked out. This event was a tarnish on Sito, and if she hadn't gotten involved in that cover-up, Picard wouldn't have requested her and she would have probably been on a different ship after graduating. Locarno was wrong about his "Dettrions" being the first.
Voyager encountered such an assembly in the Delta quadrant.
Beyond Star Trek there were the Ousters in the "Hyperion" stories, and there are even plenty of examples in _real life._.
Not sure, but I think the core of the Caribbean islands was formed by runaway slaves and refugees indigenous to the islands.
I think Captain Cook (yes, Captain Cook was a real pirate) finally retired to a private estate on his own island, somewhere.
And if you go to _Alaska today_ the residents will tell you there are even these days people coming to live in the backwoods who want to get away from the suffocating crush of "modern society".
So, what is so outrageous about Locarno and his compatriots starting their own thing, if nobody is using that solar system, anyway?

Have to Totally agree with the Doctor on this one. Locarion was about the biggest A hole cadet in Star Trek history. And Everything Mariner said about him was totally true also. He got a Cadet killed, covered it up, even blamed him for the accident. Wanted Crusher to call Picard a Liar, even resign from the academy himself to keep from doing the right thing all so Locarno could graduate a legend for doing am illegal maneuver at the Graduation ceremony. What an A hole!

Ture, but most of the Alpha and Beta quadrant powers wouldn't want to run the risk of him deploying it. Even with the loss of that Bird of Prey, he still had a Romulan ship with a cloaking device. He could have used that warbird to deploy the device onto an inhabited planet and potentially cause billions of deaths.
