my first alpha kill story was me and a few friends cruising around on our raft about a week after the game launched on xbox ... none of us had seen an alpha rex yet. but there it was off the shore , we shot at it with bows and couldnt kill it , losing many men. so we retreated to our boat. the alpha gave chase. we were just barely outrunning him on our boat! but eventually he drowned and we claimed our victory over the beast. was like a scene from jaws!
I don't know if stone works for alpha rex anymore. The USS Hunter had to be honorably discharged because an alpha rex ate it.... Worked wonders up till that point I made a flat version and put your secret compartments along with it. It was absolutely packed with loot and nobody even gave it a second glance. So thanks for your amazing tutorials!

I absolutely do not mind that you repeat things from earlier videos, as those things need to be in, to make the video complete. I was happy to see you show how to use pillars alone, for sinking the foundations as I have been using that method myself, but still learned som new things about that. cheers
Thanks. Built it like a charm. Only thing I learned the hard way, was the floating foundations at the back can't be replaced. They need to be torn down and re-placed with the roof method. Also, I found out that if you're at limit and you want to replace a stone foundation with a metal one, it won't let you. It thinks it's adding another piece instead of replacing it.Otherwise, I'm out to find some alphas later!
As of 253.31, this works, though it's *very* important to get the initial 3x3 foundation placement right. I made one where I didn't put the pillar as far back from the mast as I could, and that didn't work. Alphas would like get lodged in the barricade and I couldn't damage them. After rebuilding it, following the video much more closely, it works. So just know before you start, absolutely get the placement of the first pillar exactly as described in the video, as that shifts the barricade's distance away from the rudder and apparently matters a great deal.
I love your builds and have been watching every one you make. you've made my game much better! one suggestion, I wish you'd put a suggested parts list on the description. "you'll need 100 walls, 10 doors, 10 ramps, etc" I'll watch the video over and over and draw it on graph paper so I can budget my build time, but if you left a "recipe" it would save me time :) otherwise, keep up the amazing work.
Thank You Mr Onewing ,your Alpha Hunter Raft Vid saved me and my tames we were being terrorized by a Alpha Carno and he killed me numerous times but I took the time to build a basic version and it worked perfectly I deaded him in about 30 seconds with a pike. P.S. I'm on ps4 and this was Xmas Day so it definitley works still and works on PS4. thx again Happy Holidays!!
Can confirm that the boat still works for raptors and carnos at 2 deep. However even at five deep it no longer works for alpha trex, whilst they can not climb up the back it still works in that sense that they get stuck but they are not immobilised, they will now be higher elevated and their head is now way above the foundations instead of the head pretty much inside the foundations. Because of this they will now sit at the back eating up all the foundations. I managed to kill one but my boat was wrecked at the back. I'd love to hear any ideas for altering it, even if motorboat extra item limit is needed.

if you want to water plants without having to wait for the rain though ( say your on a tight schedule) you can remote use water skins and jugs in the plot to add irrigation value. unless this changed sometime recently i remember that working. only ever really saves you half an hour to an hour though
i stop playing as well when my base got raided im still new. hard to wrap my head around this game im lvl 4ish on xb1 sever 11ukofficial. been robbed. raided twice rebuilt then raided.
+sylence Lvl 426, 1000 hours put into a base, had around 15 lvl 300 Giga's, couple dragons and a few Gods. Raided by the biggest tribe on the map, ended in about 25 minutes :/

One improvement I would make is to put the door of the boat to one of the sides that way if anyone lands or swims up and starts hitting the door with a hatchet they will be in direct line of fire of one of the plant. The way the door is now it looks like they can just run up to the door crouch and hatchet away safely. Also I would remove the door in the back completely.
So, being a noob i got fooled by these 'build tutorials' at first, not knowing they are mostly done with mods i started thinking building an epic HQ would be quick and easy. instead, what came quick was a lack of storage space, and resources. And how much weight one could carry became a huge problem. I've learned my lesson, start small and renovate often.
Great video as always one wing, you found it hard to put that bed straight because you were in the way psst. If you want something straight but your in the way for you to place it press a on xbox and rotate it using your thumbsticks
I think one problem with this would be sharks wandering around and interrupting your operation. But it seems luring Alpha's of any kind into the sea is probably the best tactic for an easy kill.
I play on PS4 and have the same problem with the walls freaking out when I try and place them. not sure if it works on Xbox but on ps4 if you are standing on the floor you want the wall to snap too and look almost straight down where you can only barely see the wall it will snap to the floor you want it to without the freaking out. love your raft builds I built myself the expedition and will definitely build this one!

I just built the carrier boat and it's awesome. I used stone for the foundation and did all the rest in metal. How would you recommend modifying that boat if I want to add a generator and turrets?
Confirmed working in summer 2020. There are easier ways to lower the foundations, but the concept of the boat is up to date. I got rid of two annoying alpha Raptors while still being low level and fairly new to the game.
Came across this and loved the design. replicated it and had issues snapping the balista in place, gave up after to re-attempts but it worked. only issue I have now is I can't get the bed and smithy down as it said I reached my building limit. but unsure how. any ideas?
I've only recently started playing Ark and man these video's you have made have been extremely helpful. One question though. With the addition of the whales...can they destroy metal boats?
Yes they can but it will take a long time and the motor boat can easily outrun it. Don't park it in deep water though and fixing it is expensive if it does get hit.
Love the video, built mine exactly like it. I was able to walk under the ceiling above the back door no problem, but once I installed the ballista turret I have to crouch to get under it. Any thoughts as to how to fix this?
i think i did something slightly off. when i put the row of three sloped ceilings on there is a slight gap for two out of the three and i cant for the love of me figure out what happened. i had to dissect my boat and use fly/ghost but i still cant figure out what went wrong to cause that gap.
Love your designs! I've made a few of them now, and used the ideas as the basis of a few of my own builds. I made a metal version of this based on a motorboat, added two extra plant X wings on each side and a "flying bridge" with plant X on a 2 high pillar at the front. One question, I made one of these using your design. I wanted to replace the stone with metal, and it worked until I got to the rear sloped ceilings. They seem to snap lower then the stone, you have to crouch to get passed the tiller. Any suggestions?

Its only the normal rex that attacks but he cant damage anything anyway. You have to stand back at the door with the crossbow for the alpha rex and he shouldn't attack.
Thx for the answer! I just killed my first alpha Rex today on this boat (flat one on a pvp server). it turns out that if you are too far back he attacks the boat, so you have to be at just the right distance in front of him and he's just stuck and doesn't attack at all. Thx again for everything, it was a lot of fun!
It holds the dinos at the back and stops the alphas from swimming underneath the boat biting up through it. For alpha raptor and carno you only need the back 2 foundations high, but for alpha rex its 5.
When I do the line of 3 thatched roofs at the back of the rudder at 2:50 the middle one wont stay up so I am unable to place the foundation underneath it
Just finished building this and I'm 3 pieces short somehow , couldn't place ind.grill, mortar and pestil or preserving bin , did total number of pieces change with patch that allowed us to snap foundations under thatch roofs? Also wanted to say thank you , your raft guides are very helpful and easy to follow.
Yeah I probably did , I ended up changing an entry way around a bit to make it work. Plan on making another out of metal anyhow , I'll remember to do plants at the end. Thanks again .

Used your guide to build a stone boat, works great. I recently built a metal one, and noticed you can see the raft base through the metal foundations. Any danger to apparently exposing the raft with metal foundations?
Great videos! Question for everyone, I'm on survival+ and attempting to build down but I'm getting an obstruction message. The foundation is snapping but won't place. I'm using cement foundations if that helps at all? Also I've put an extra pillar up and down twice but no change (and I'm in deep water). Thanks in advance!
Any chance you can show how to build that underwater compartment? I've tried a few ways and it either ends up much lower or too close to the raft. I'm playing on an official primitive server and it would be a great addition to my carrier I use as my base. I needed to build 2 pillars down at 6:09 to build the 3rd stacked row. Same for subsequent rows.

If you meant wood rafts with metal foundation then they are damaged the same as a bare raft.

I kinda understand why the Rocket Turrets are placed on end-game stuff, but isn't the Minigun much more effective against creatures?
i think i did something slightly off. when i put the row of three sloped ceilings on there is a slight gap for two out of the three and i cant for the love of me figure out what happened. i had to dissect my boat and use fly/ghost but i still cant figure out what went wrong to cause that gap.
Love your designs! I've made a few of them now, and used the ideas as the basis of a few of my own builds. I made a metal version of this based on a motorboat, added two extra plant X wings on each side and a "flying bridge" with plant X on a 2 high pillar at the front.
One question, I made one of these using your design. I wanted to replace the stone with metal, and it worked until I got to the rear sloped ceilings. They seem to snap lower then the stone, you have to crouch to get passed the tiller. Any suggestions?
Would a design like this work against a Giga or is their bite distance too long? I have one I need to get rid of . . .

Its only the normal rex that attacks but he cant damage anything anyway. You have to stand back at the door with the crossbow for the alpha rex and he shouldn't attack.
Thx for the answer! I just killed my first alpha Rex today on this boat (flat one on a pvp server). it turns out that if you are too far back he attacks the boat, so you have to be at just the right distance in front of him and he's just stuck and doesn't attack at all. Thx again for everything, it was a lot of fun!
Excellent tutorial. :D But what was the point of extending the back end down like 3 or 4 blocks? What does that do?
It holds the dinos at the back and stops the alphas from swimming underneath the boat biting up through it. For alpha raptor and carno you only need the back 2 foundations high, but for alpha rex its 5.
When I do the line of 3 thatched roofs at the back of the rudder at 2:50 the middle one wont stay up so I am unable to place the foundation underneath it
Just finished building this and I'm 3 pieces short somehow , couldn't place ind.grill, mortar and pestil or preserving bin , did total number of pieces change with patch that allowed us to snap foundations under thatch roofs? Also wanted to say thank you , your raft guides are very helpful and easy to follow.
It the same as far as I'm aware. Did you grow the plants before placing the final items?
Yeah I probably did , I ended up changing an entry way around a bit to make it work. Plan on making another out of metal anyhow , I'll remember to do plants at the end. Thanks again .

Any danger to apparently exposing the raft with metal foundations?

you cant put autoturrets on anything mobile anymore. not platform saddles or rafts.

Great videos! Question for everyone, I'm on survival+ and attempting to build down but I'm getting an obstruction message. The foundation is snapping but won't place. I'm using cement foundations if that helps at all? Also I've put an extra pillar up and down twice but no change (and I'm in deep water). Thanks in advance!
Finally got it. Had to make sure the roof was snapped to the back piece and not the walkway piece.

Any chance you can show how to build that underwater compartment? I've tried a few ways and it either ends up much lower or too close to the raft. I'm playing on an official primitive server and it would be a great addition to my carrier I use as my base. Your hidden cashes video has also been a great help, I'm using several ideas from that one. Thanks.
