    I had to laugh when your expectations were low about Bali to begin with. I had no intentions of going to Bali but as I wanted to look into a possible career in Tourism I decided to travel to Bali afterall as that's where a lot of Aussies go. What can I say that was 5 years before Covid hit and disrupted everyone's travel plans. Before Covid hit that one trip turned into 3 to 4 trips a year, exploring as much of what Bali has to offer as possible, 1 week at a time was too short so after my first trip my stays went to 2,3 and even 4 weeks. In just over 3 years I think I went 12 times. I was going to go again in May 2020 and show my sister around but Covid stopped that. I now have many friends and "Bali Family" in Bali and Bali has become my second home. I am booked to go back in October but I don't think I can wait that long and will probably go before then, even if just a weekend or a week, whatever time I can get off work lol I LOVE BALI and the people of Bali. Still so much of Bali I haven't seen yet.

      I love hearing foreigners enjoy my beautiful country. Bali was hit tremendously by covid and its sadly not the same as before which is so saddening. However, the locals are still so resilient and positive through it all. I hope you will enjoy your october trip and many foreigners out there will come back one day so they can help the local community to stand back up again! Remember to shop local everyone! 💛

    I can tell you guys are American … i am from Hawaii … My grandmother was pure Hawaiian .. i have a German grandfather and Chinese father ….most Americans think if your not American indian you would be an inmigrant… not true Hawaiians are also Indigenous … i was born in Hawaii before it became a US state .. the Hawaii i grew up in had many similarities to the Bali of today … i left Hawaii in 78 and worked across all 6 continents with Hyatt InterContinental Hilton and Marriott … i did so because i knew as a Hawaiian My opportunities would be limited if i stayed in the islands … ive lived in Jakarta for the last 15 years where i run a hotel Company and have been to Bali several Times every year… it never ceases to amaze me how their true culture remains vibrant … the spirit that surrounds everything they do .. the genuine, beauty despite the spoils of change and commercial Development…we just got back yesterday … thank yiu for doing them proud wirh tour discovery and i can tell you you one visit merely scratched the surface of this wonderful island and its people … 🙏

      Richard, This is what I have reverberating for years because I lived in Hawaii. Hawaiians are Indigenous like the people of Bali yet lost everything. What has happened to the indigenous people of Hawaii is what's going on here in Bali. It's so sad.

    • @LisaAndJosh
      @LisaAndJosh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for sharing this. We hold your thoughts and the history and culture of Hawai’i very close to us. With growing popularity, tourism, and of course, colonization, the history and true culture of a place often and sadly get drowned out. Even having lived in Hawai’i and being a part of a halau, we feel like we have just merely scratched the surface, as you say, in truly understanding what it was like for native Hawaiians to have experienced such loss. We hope that the people who have been there all along, their culture, and their voices are elevated the most

    Hello Lisa and Josh, I have wondered about how your travels in Bali would turn out. I thought the modern incarnation of Bali might disappoint but it hasn't turned out that way. You're seeing through the camouflage to the core of what Bali really is. It's nice to know that traditional Bali still exists. Your insight and curiosity makes a video such as this possible. Thankyou so much for it

    I've been to Bali three times in an eight year period. Ubud is absolutely my favourite place. When I talk with friends about Bali they say they have no desire to visit Bali; but they're thinking of Kuta with all the Aussie and Kiwi tourists in the bars and shops and such. That's not the real Bali. The real Bali gets under your skin; it seeps into your soul. The people, the culture, the food and the haunting music: wonderful!

MAYA BAY (The Beach 2000) of Thailand was destroyed by millions of Tourists, then the government decided to choose CONSERVATION over money and shut it for 3 years (original plan is 2 but the full recovery needs 3 so there be it). I have not explore the whole island, many more to experience from Bali too. Ypi are welcome Come more often and be respectful with local tradition. And Bali is the only island that is predominantly Hindu, I think over 80%.
      As soon as you go to any other islands the culture is mainly Muslim and very different than Bali.
      I've sailed and travelled extensively through Indonesia and the diversity is amazing.
      Respect the culture and the locals will embrace.
      Love Bali but in the last 15 years the traffic congestion has been a deterrent as well as mass tourism. With covid, travel must be quite bliss. Wishing I could get out there before mass tourism returns...
