I'm just glad this vid was me replaying it later and not me playing blind. Did NOT trust that choice in the slightest. The FIRST time I played, "You gave me this big emotional speech about running off to build a life together and raising our griffon son and now you want to go run off to, *checks notes* distract Ghilan'nain? Nah, mister, you're staying right here with me." Davrin had already become the semi-permanent second person in the party so it made sense to keep him around, and part of me in the back of my head was remembering Mass Effect and wasn't gonna trifle with turning him loose unless the game forced me to.
@@Zanysatsuma I thought you would be able to save everyone as long as you made the right choices, like in mass effect. Sent harding because she's a scout and was with the inquisition. It was heartbreaking but losing davrin and assan is worse
@@helianthe3457 i honestly appreciate the fact that they started things off at the end of Veilguard with a Virmire-style choice (from ME1 where either Kaidan or Ashley always dies). It hurts no matter what but watching Assan fly after him just...my heart.

I did this in my first run. I was romancing Davrin, and chose him as team leader and then... I was crying for the REST OF THE GAME. Like real tears. It just got worse in the Fade Prison part with Varric, but I couldn't stop.

There’s a comment thats made after harding dies where rook says they never find her body. What if they make a DLC after the Veilguard finds out one of them lived. Assan ended up saving Davrin and Harding went full stone to save herself maybe 👀 just a thought that helps me get by 😂
I'm not even in a romance with him and I was devastated. I like Harding, but Davrin and Assan are a duo that makes my heart very warm. When they died, I stared at the computer screen open-mouthed and couldn't believe it. Then came the Varric bomb and I just went to sleep and played the game the next day. I went back to the save and sent Harding to her death.
I didn’t romance Davrin either but as a grey warden it feels like you’re assan’s second dad romance or not and the friendship between the two wardens really comes across. I didn’t romance Harding but she was one of my favorites so the death definitely hit hard. On my second playthrough I’m romancing Harding but I’m undecided whether I want to kill off Davrin or Harding in that playthrough either way is gonna be rough. You can potentially make a romance plot even more tragic than solas and the inquisitor with Davrin or Harding if you decide to make it a doomed romance.
i didn't romance davrin and didn't have any kind of specific connection with him but when i saw that assan was included in the "risk it all" choice warning i went SORRY HARDING. so yeah uh i don't think harding will ever live in any of my playthroughs after seeing this
It's best if you let harding lead the team. When harding "dies" after you go to her room Rook says "if you're out there, we'll find you", considering Harding fell to her death in the beginning of the game and was saved by plot armor powers it's not hard to believe those titan powers will save her again.

This was the most painful death to me since Legion in Mass Effect 3. The way Assan followed him to the very end 😭 my heart was crushed. For all my problems with Veilguard, there were some genuinely great and heart wrenching moments like this. For that I have to give credit where credit is due to BioWare. These are the kind of moments that we want from them and I hope they keep this in mind for ME5.
For me it went full circle. That first time he stepped up during the battle for weisshaupt I was like 'ok king, go off', I didn't care so much. But then, Davrin & Lucanis became my dream team. I really enjoyed the friendship I was growing with him and i had NO IDEA what was going to happen when i picked Davrin to lead the other team, it just seemed the natural choice. I was thinking 'put the best people in place to make them all live' ala ME2. Never again, sorry Harding.
my husband finished before i did and watched me pick Davrin KNOWING what would happen but he chose Harding so he had no idea about Assan so we were both crying
I'm in my second playthrough and the first one (where i went completely blind) I was romancing Davrin, but I chose Harding to lead the team because I got that this was a Mass effect 2 situation and I thought "she is sneaky, and expert scout and archer and was closest to Leliana" so I was sure she was the right pick and, since she was loyal, she would have been fine. And we all know how that went for me😢. Then, i discovered that Varric was truly gone. The second time ever I cried for a dragon age character (The first one was Isseya). Especially because I thought of my Hawkes they were all alive, finding their peace in this world full of despair... and then their best friend died because of an egostist who could not let go of the past

If you view them all, Morrigan (who has taken possession of Mythal's memories from Flemeth now that the latter is dead) will show up and fill in the history of Solas and Mythal, and point you in the direction of one of Mythal's other surviving fragments. From there if you either impress THAT Mythal (or kill her), you gain a boon that can be used to finally talk Solas out of his plan to end the world and let go of the past. [If you manage to talk your way into the blessing, and haven't faced an optional extremely hard dragon fight against a Revenant Dragon, she'll also intervene in THAT fight].
@@LadyJ8 You still get the essence of Mythal if you fight the dragon. The option at the end with Solas you have to choose the additional option off the bottom of the wheel, like where you'd usually ask questions/faction related stuff. That takes you to the good ending.
Can we just commenda Rook's voice actor in the final scene? She seemed to really be on the verge of tears, she expressed her deep love without being cheesy or cringey. It was short, precise and heart breaking
I was hoping someone would post a video of this! I knew that choice was sketchy during my playthrough so I kept him with me, and sorry Harding, I love you too but you're almost always going to die... My Grey Warden Rook was romancing Davrin, and the scenes are just too sweet for me to knowingly send him and Assan to their deaths in future playthroughs. Feel super bad for Taash though. Fingers crossed there's something they do in a DLC or whatever that makes it so that you can find them again. It's fantasy, who wants consequences /s I really wish having them as a member of the Veilguard did something though... Aside from story obviously, it kinda makes it pointless to do any kind of levelling with the character you know you're going to get killed later in following playthroughs. I'd have much preferred it if they could survive it if you'd maxed them out/done all their story etc. Would have been more rewarding.

I feel like its kind of underwhelming for a romanced Davrin, like, where is the rage of a lover? the options to lash out, grieve, and make those more snappy and rash comments of condemation to the gods and to solas, since its his fault after all, instead, it feels generic, like "We must fight on for him, we are the heroes after all, we will do this together.", Even with the presented opituinity to express grief to the party, the options are boiled down to 'I have to be fine', 'I am fine', or 'of course I'm fine', the same middle ground with no rage or personal feelings of wanting to punish others for this, or even to blame anyone.
I think the only playthrough Harding will live is the one I romance her cuz I cannot STAND not only losing my warden brother but my little griffin nephew
I went into romancing Davrin as a Grey Warden without knowing what to expect. When the time came to decide if he should lead his own team, I chose to let him. It felt like the logical choice. His approval was at 10, and I thought it would keep him safe. I couldn’t have been more wrong. At first, I was thrilled watching him heroically try to save me. But then, seeing him fall right in front of me, with Assan following, was devastating. When I encountered him in the Fade, it utterly broke me. Despite the pain, I didn’t reload to a previous save. I never undo choices in a first playthrough, no matter how much they hurt. Playing through the aftermath of that loss made me love and appreciate Davrin even more. If I hadn’t romanced him, or if I hadn’t lost him, I don’t think the story would have impacted me so deeply. It was heartbreaking but unforgettable.
This was my 2nd run of the ending with my original Rook (who I was overall very happy with) but the further removed I get the more I think it's my canon ending. I think I knew the second I caught what happened to Harding. Rook, after all, hallucinated someone else, it stands to reason she'd completely zone out and shut down and visualize a world where Davrin lived and they won the final battle and rode off to Arlathan together because the truth was too terrible. It's hauntingly painful, gives Rook the first clear motivation she's had the entire time other than big existential stuff or, well, Varric. it's emotionally choking in a way few things in this game are - and after all, as the Wardens say (and as comes up again and again), " In War, Victory. In Peace, Vigilance. *In Death, Sacrifice*" Besides, in 4x previous runs of each of the three games, I never once sacrificed a love interest. Not against the Archdemon in Origins (never ever), not Anders or anyone else through the consequences of 2. And I managed to avoid Inquisition's few pratfalls (cough)Bull. So maybe Veilguard's the game that gets the melancholy ending.
I had to throw Davrin under the bus. He's a Grey Warden and a Monster Hunter, it's his job with all the risks that come with it. And as Grey Warden he would have felt the Calling sooner or later anyway - although that may have changed with the Veil being fixed. His legacy is that he saved the griffons and that thanks to his actions a god that had turned into a monster was defeated. His sacrifice makes the most sense thematically, although it's a shame that Assan decided to commit suicide by diving after him. Harding on the other hand is an optimistic bundle of joy. She's a Scout and not a dedicated monster hunter who has to deal with dark spawn and other horrors on a daily basis. Also she and Taash are a pair and getting Harding killed leaves Taash heart broken, effectively killing 2 people. I just could not do that to them. But I still blame the game for making that outcome so sudden. It does not matter if you did their quests and and the initial choice is about distracting the Antaam and blow some ships up and not to lead the second team against a monster. It would have been much better if they can survive that scene if you maxed out their friend-o-meter. Like Davrin should get saved by Assan and Harding should survive the stabs by using her stone powers - which would make perfect sense, cause the Titans would surely love some payback against their killers.
