Just installed a Traxxion case guard on my new 2022. I wondered what that extra washer was all about, until I had some trouble aligning that final rear left pan head screw. I watched the original installation video again (no mention of a washer), then stumbled onto this video from the TH-cam suggestion algorithm. Ah, now it makes sense. I dropped in the extra washer between the engine case and the mounting bracket on my machine and voila, everything was perfect! Thanks Max for yet another great product and for keeping the community up to date on what you are learning along the way.
Glad you took the time to address that overbaked misunderstanding. I've purchased several products from you for my 2018 model and I've never been disappointed.
Good video. Doing long term testing on the Traxxion guard. If I had something like this on my previous Goldwing it would have saved my engine from $12,000 in damage.
Thanks for clearing everything up about the case guard. I’ve heard about just about everything you addressed. I had emailed Traxxion after I heard about the oil seepage issue and was reassured by your staff that it’s basically a non-issue. They told me pretty much exactly what you just told us. I’m waiting until spring and warmer weather to install mine. I’ll be happy to know that I have that extra layer of protection. You guys do good work. Thanks for looking out for us Wingers.
Add a 2018 DCT Tour that needed the washer on the left rear mounting bolt! After torquing the brackets down, I tried to remove the plate starting with the left rear screw. It was very tight. I slightly loosened the left rear mounting bolt, the screw came out easily. So I installed the optional washer and tightened everything down again. The plate mounting screw came out like it was supposed to. Since I will be headed to Fairbanks, Alaska in 3 weeks, this belly pan/skid plate will give me piece of mind!
Hi Max, I just want to say your videos are great. I still ride a 1991 1500 and it’s very stock. But I enjoy your videos as I love to day dream about having a newer wing but just don’t do enough riding to justify. What I really want to say is I love and respect your approach. It’s so different from the “slick salesman” that so many people try to be or just are. You make your customers and viewers feel as part of the “team” and your honesty comes across so well. I respect your exasperation with the “whining” you get from some and your personal strength to “call out” the nonsense. You obviously care that you provide top quality products to the market and desire to ensure people feel good about your products they purchase. One I remember most is your business explanation of the price of your grab rails. Showing people what it takes to conceptualize, design, manufacture and market a product gives people a much needed sense of what goes into business today. The average person is oblivious to the “real” reality of offering something to the public for sale. Please keep offering the wide range of high quality products and keep being “real” yourself like you have been, I wish you great success as I appreciate your entire approach. With thanks Ian McDonald, Kitchener Ontario Canada.
Installed this on my new 2024 with 1 mile on the odometer! Wouldn’t feel right riding with that new engine naked. Fits perfectly, fast shipping! Just order this! You need it!
I am really pleased with my block cover. What you just described happened to me after the first install and that was the end of it. I have the larger 13mm head on the magnetic oil drain bolts I use. I wasn’t able to get a socket on that rear drain bolt with the rear bracket on. I used a grinder and shaved a small amount of aluminum off the rear bracket and the issue is solved. Thanks for making the best product on the market Max.
Hey Max, Thanks for the update on your engine guard, that was awesome! Just know that you can not over engineer for stupid, you have done a great job with your product. I have not ordered mine yet because my bike is still in the repair shop, but as soon as I get it home, I’ll get your engine guard for it!!! God bless and keep up the good work. Loyal.
God it must be so frustrating dealing with or reading the complaints-comments from those individuals who know better than you. Not the ones whose experiences lead to a better product, as thats a good thing obviously, but the arm chair engineers, or those who just don’t understand your engineering philosophies. Can see it in your video actually but thats good, we know the standard that you produce and the reasoning behind it. This will be the first thing I purchase for my new 24 GW DCT from you. I’m in Australia so just waiting to get the freight cost saved, against the other projects currently on the go. (BMW K1300S 2015). It’s so good to find such a high quality company against all the low quality, not fit for purpose ‘Chinesium’ suppliers out there.
Talk about arm chair engineers... there's a couple of ding dongs that say this plate will overheat the engine! If it does anything, it's a cooling fin! Oh no! It will make the engine run cold!!! Oh No!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Max. Love my engine guard. I regularly have to drive onto unpaved, rocky roads. Drive slow and careful but comfortable due to the protection provided.
Thanks for another excellent video. I have been very happy with my plate. I did have a drop of oil, but since I cleared it away, it has been perfectly clean, like you said. As spring approaches, I'll do my first oil change and see how that goes.
A "must watch" if you haven't yet installed yours. I did put the front bracket on "backwards". A minor inconvenience that's quickly resolved. I also had to grind down the rear bracket the first time the oil was changed. Again, no big deal, but something I would have checked had this video been available. After my initial installation and again after the oil change since the rear bracket had to be removed I checked for oil leakage. Nothing either time. As a fan of sarcasm, I both use it and appreciate it. However, you may want to go a little easy on it when your purpose is to not only educate but also sell. There are those who fail to see the humor.
I ordered one for my 2021 as soon as they were available. Just wish he made some for the earlier wings. My 2015 suffered $8k in damage last summer from a bolt that tore through my Show Chrome belly pan at 70mph. I recommend Max's guard 100%.
Just installed the Alcan guard on my 21 Tour - Gotta say its a quality piece ! Well done Max and everyone involved. I needed to use the spacing washer, but no big deal ! I also widened the front cutout for the drain bolt clearance which wasnt exactly centered - also not a big deal. Yes, im that anal guy ! This was the first time lying on my back under this bike. What really struck me was just how exposed the entire underside of this bike is to anything that might decide to fling up and hit it. Ive been lying under all kinds of machines for about 45 of my 60 years, and ive never seen anything so vulnerable ! Ill gladly pass on my praise for the manufacturing, fit and finish of this Engine Case Guard .👍 Now to do some long term testing !
Thanks for this, the install tips help and I will make the holes 7mm like suggested. I had one screw on mine and a friends bike that was a little difficult to align. Love the Case Guard.
Maybe check for that bike to need the shim. It is just a plain 8mm washer you can get anywhere, stainless steel preferred of course, or we can send you one in the mail free.
Some people have screws that are loose, other's have lost their's altogether and have no idea what's going on. Why are they working on something if they don't know what they are doing? Ohhh, they have more money to blow than they know what to do with! Thanks Max, I was rolling with laughter. A great video sir, thanks!
2022 Gold Wing preparing for trike build. Just installed and found it as easy as described. I saw no oil seepage. note performed on on a hot engine after work. Had a little heat transfer after install, I hope it aids in cooling while riding. Hope it fits after CSC Trike conversion. I will let you know.
Good news. If there is fitment trouble, let me know: max@traxxion.com We might be able to trim or modify it some if need be, but it really shouldn't get in the way of a trike conversion.
Max. Great feedback on the "Oh my God" thoughts that originally surfaced on initial production. As you alway do, you listen, research, test, retest, and evaluate. Then you give feedback, solutions, ah Shits, and then rectify the concerns. All outstanding customer service. The world certainly is not perfect, and nor are your innovative, one time, never been done, solutions to Honda's oversights or simply a "fix". But, when you do, we react - we buy your products happily. But ....then again if an issue does arises, you always, listen, react, and make it right. Well done. Go Army... Oh. PS. I did initially have a small leak, and a concert about removing the rear oil bolt. The bolt issue was immediately resolve with the exchange/or grinding out the excess and cleaning the engine covers. After now 1000 miles I see not seepage. Another outstanding Traxxion product. Max , best wishes and hope you sell one of the engine covers to every 2018 plus Goldwing's. American Ingenuity at it's best.
Wow, two days to get case guard in hand, great service, unit was well packed. Should have it on by Sunday, my schedule is full and I’m retired. Did an unaccompanied Patriot Guard mission today which is one of the missions that are sad but we escorted a Vietnam veteran to Milledgeville for his final rest. Essayon!!
Happy New Year Max! I nailed your every review/reply on each concern! I can only add I’m going to Rustolium Aluminum Series the modifications to my Magnetic-DCT rear drain bolt heavily-shouldered Dremel grinding mods 😎
Thanks for the extra bolts. I managed to burr two of them, I am not sure how. I am not much of a mechanic. I think maybe I was tightening at an angle or my hex tool was worn out. Traxxion sent me more.
It is pretty common for smaller allen keys to get kinda rounded at the tip. If you happen to own a bench grinder, you can shave down the rounded part every so often. If not, you can get a new one on Amazon for a few bucks without having to buy a whole new set.
Good question! I've been off TH-cam for a few months, so I must have "Rumplestiltzkin'd" this beard! It is gray gray gray for sure! It will disappear when it gets warm. I bought a small "mountain" in TN to retire to, and I'm playing "Mountain Man" right now, so it's all fun. Watch for a new video series on that!
Hello Max, I purchased a glove box lock from you for my 2019 Honda goldwing I am very pleased is there any way possible with the engine case that you can make it with the holes to where you can just change the oil filter and oil plug without having to take the engine case cover off?
We're not going to change that since I have actually seen a punctured oil filter also. But you could easily take the plate to a local machine shop and have them make holes in it to your liking.
Thanks so much for your video's, love the honesty. This is why I ordered my plate from you. Should be in Tuesday. Quick question tho. Do you advise lifting this bike up with a bike jack on the cover? Want your professional opinion on this.
You can lift the front wheel for sure. I have heard of people lifting the whole bike, but we've never tried it, since we don't use those types of lifts here.
Hey Max. Just installed your skid plate on my 2022 Goldwing DCT. VERY easy install and really good quality. Love it! By the way I also have a Indian Chieftain Vintage. Looked under it and found it’s just like the Goldwing. No protection for the engine case. Do you have any knowledge of that and do you have a guard for it??
Your latest video of the block that got trashed convinced me to spend $300 to save $13,000. I also saw Wingstuff came out with a version. After watching their product installed by Cruiseman I just felt yours was better "engineered" and machined, so I went with yours. How will I know if the sky starts falling while installing :)
I think it's at www.traxxion.com but like I said, everything exactly the same, but the plate is 1" wider on each side to completely cover the exhausts from gravel. You can "see" the edge of the Alcan plate, you can't see the standard plate. If you aren't driving on gravel roads and the like, it's not necessary.
Max what do you think about draining the oil before the initial installation, I'm thinking if there is no oil in there in the first place, well there should not be any seeping through right? also you never mention the torque on these bolts.
I would not bother for sure, unless it was time to change your oil. But it's not a bad idea. People bitch about how long it is going to take to remove the plate to change their oil, so I don't think I can convince them to drain their oil before installing it!!! HAHAHA! The torque on the bracket bolts is 18 ft/lbs, like a normal 8mm bolt basically. The little screws just need to be snug, not cranked on.
The douche baggery of internet engineers never ceases to amaze me. I thought "how long did CM (who is not a DB fyi) have those bolts out?" And "if it was leaking...as much as he rides there would have been more oil". Unfortunately it's been too damn cold and wet since I've installed mine to "heat cycle" and ride mine to check. I "hung" the plate as you described because it made sense since I didn't have a helper. It's a beautiful piece people...I found several "strike" marks on the bottom of the case and pipes...it's a real issue that is solved by an innovative solution. For comparison: My adventure bike bash plate feels like Tupperware and it's made by one of the most respected brands in the industry.
I understand your point about the bolts and i agree, but it was one of your selling points so you cant fault people for complaining about it. DZus fastner are horrible.
Not only do they make great parts, they are not afraid to tell you about minor issues and how to overcome them! Great Job !!!
Max, I have a 2021 goldwing that needed the washer. Thanks for responding to feedback and making awesome things 😊
You bet!

Cool. I haven't found any rhyme or reason to why an occassional bike doesn't line up. Glad you got it dialed in!
Glad you took the time to address that overbaked misunderstanding. I've purchased several products from you for my 2018 model and I've never been disappointed.
Glad to help!
Good video. Doing long term testing on the Traxxion guard. If I had something like this on my previous Goldwing it would have saved my engine from $12,000 in damage.

Your install and maint videos are invaluable to the community...thanks CM
We are all here to support you, yesterday I ordered the engine guard plate. All the best to your new innovations
Much appreciated!
Hey Max. Just installed your Traxxion guard on my new 2022 Goldwing DTC. It took me maybe 15 min. Easy as it gets. Thanks for the engineering.
Awesome! Safe Travels!

18 ft/lbs.

We need one for the 2001-2017. There has to be more of our gen than the new 2018+ so I'm curious why you did this one first??
Pretty much anyone who wanted a "belly pan" has already bought one. I am listening to the people asking, so far there's only been a half dozen or so.
