If I have already purchased the AI preset pack do I have to pay again for the new stuff?
The biggest update for lightroom would be HSL on the masking section , really would be insane !
I'd love to see that too! My hunch is we'll probably see that in the near future. But honestly, once you get your head around tone curves like this you can actually do a lot MORE with the color than you could with the HSL. HSL is more user friendly though :)
@@SignatureEdits yeah both would be great option , because after i begin using da vinci resolve with that much freedom whole editing proces even for video , i thought if it would be on lightroom this could be insane !!
Nah, biggest update would be to add LUTS and profiles on layers.
Use Capture 1 😉 there you have the option. And overall it renders colors much much better
As a lifestyle family photographer that fairly often does composite images for Christmas photos, infant photos, etc., I can see this being quite helpful in balancing colors to help match up with the subject in those. Great addition Adobe!
Oh man I can see that being super helpful! Getting those colors to match must be challenging and time consuming - Hope this speed up your editing workflow significantly!
WOW I do some night sky images. It is always a battle to get the right white balance between foreground shots done during blue hour and blending in tracked sky shots done well after dark. I can't wait to give this a try.
Oh man I hadn't even thought about that! Of COURSE this would be massively helpful with any type of night photography with multiple light sources or long exposure stuff! Great idea steve! Lmk how it goes :)
Thank you loads, I always had a reddish/purplish skin issue with my .NEF portrait photos, Golden Marshmallow mask did really a good job and finally fixed my issue. keep going with the good work.
Nice work!
very clever - well done
It may be the most powerful tool in lightroom but it's one i just cannot seem to get my head around! Every time i use it, or try to, i end up with a right mess. Determined to get my head around it though and your tutorial was very helpful, thank you.
OH MAN I can relate! It took me a while to make it make sense in my head 😅 I have a tutorial on my channel if you are interested 👍
Sane here 😂
My method is to first realize that I’m not doing math. This is art! When I adjust the curve, I sort of deep focus, almost through the image (like those old computer generated images where you could find the hidden rocket). Then I adjust to my liking, using the slider nodes below the graph by wobbling them back and forth in one general direction.
@@laynetravis 🤣
I think the best way to think of it is that the derivative of the tone curve is contrast. That is, the steeper you make it in one area, the more contrast you're pulling from that range, and conversely, the flatter it is, the flatter the image will be through that range.
Great info! Thanks!!
Great Video!!
Thanks Martin!
That's very helpful, thanks a lot 🙏
🙏🏻 Glad you thought so! Thanks Musab
Very helpful video!
Great demo
Super helpful
Glad to hear!
does the weird thing you mentioned that happens for single-subject photos only happen for some of the presets in the AI engine preset toolkit, or does it happen for all of the presets? also, do the presets only work for photos with a subject(s)? or will they work for landscape photos as well?
Thank you!
You bet Hellevi!
I’m going to use this for my sports photography to make jersey colors more vibrant without affecting the skin
That's funny....only way to do that is to mask the skin!
You also will be editing for days if you do that for sports... I know, I shoot high volume Dirt Bike racing and Rodeo!
@@MrDan1509 they have ai masking for clothes, when I’ve done this for rugby photos it only increased by editing time by only around an hour.
Excellent video.
Thanks Craig! Glad you enjoyed 👌🏻
That's great they're adding more of the Ps features into it. Makes a world of difference.
So true! Lightroom has become so much easier to fix things that I would have needed Photoshop (or a LOT more work) to fix before!
great video!
Thanks Pablo!
Great video! I'm so happy that I did curves to the adjustment layers. I would love to know what mic are you using it sounds excellent and was very small
Thanks Daniel! The mic is the deity D4 mini! Great little mic (im using it because Im currently traveling around Southeast Asia and needed something tiny that wouldn’t take much space!)
@@SignatureEdits thanks! I'm using a cheap Samson Q2U which does the job but my kids dropped it and now it's like 20% the volume output. Time for an upgrade.
Bummer! Well I'd recommend the Deity for sure. It also comes with a super thick wind furry which in my use would look silly but is really helpful.
amzn.to/3MDYwce
I've got it attached to a collapsible selfie stick that has a 3/8 thread on the bottom, a tiny $4 ball mount and a $5 mini tripod from amazon. Normally I use the Shure MV7 but I'm traveling and this is a cheap kit + ultra compact size + great quality!
Nice. 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
I love this video! Thank you! I’ve watched it over ten times now! I’ve lost count..
So after watching, I updated to the newest version so I could try out your tips. In your video, you toggled on/off sections such as the tone curve section. In the previous version I was just using, you could click on the “switch” and turn things on or off and see the change and difference. For example, you could add a vignette and get all your settings just right, but then you could click on that button in the top left corner of like tone curve, HSL, detail, effects, etc., it looked like a vertical rectangle with two different shaded squares inside, and that was the on/off switch. Click on, click off. But now when I try to do that, for example on a vignette, there is now an “eye” and it always remains on, but if you click on the eye it just toggles on/off real fast and so you have to click on the eye and hold the mouse’s button down for it to remain off until you release the button and then it goes back to on. Is that how it is for you? I can’t seem to change a setting in the develop module such as HSL, effects, color grading, etc. and then turn it completely off if I don’t want it on but retain the settings that I just made. It remains always on now, unless I click and hold down the button(eye). Is there a way to fix this without having to delete all the changes I made or revert back to normal or 0(zero)?
Sooo.. I found a kinda “work-around” for that.
With that panel open, if you hold down ALT (or option on Mac) the original switches will appear and you can turn them on or off.
Hey! First, so glad u found it helpful!
Second, yep the alt option key is the way - I agree though, i wish u could just set it to be the same as before and have on off buttons!
@@SignatureEdits yes very helpful indeed! I’ve been binge watching your channel and gained a lot of tips and tricks, thanks so much!
More tutorials about those curves
Can I do this in light room 2 ?
Legend!!!4
nice
I tried using sync where the masking was used but the masks did not find the subject, it actually kept the mask exactly where the original people were so it left shadows of the people from the original image the mask was on. Is that normal? Also when I reset the image I got an error notification saying light was now having trouble reading the raw image and the only way to fix this error message was to quit Lightroom and reopen
The error would be just random bad luck, unless it always happens on that image!
Sometimes the ai mask cant find the subject in a photo, but it wouldnt normally paste the same mask unless that mask had been made with a brush. Sorry, hard to say without seeing it!
which mic are you using?
Hey Taimur! I'm using the Deity D4 Mini in this vid. amzn.to/3MDYwce
Nice intro
thanks!
Why not just make a masking preset?
Can I get the name of this lightroom version, please? 😊
Hey Adnjela! This is Lightroom Classic, which has a few more features than the other version of Lightroom :)
Do you live in Bali?
Last year! Atm I'm in Taiwan, then Thailand for a few months, then Bali again in March :) Escaping the Canadian winter
Nah, biggest update would be to add LUTS can profiles on layers.
Hmmm interesting concept! Maybe one day?!
Something very similar to this but even more automated exists in Luminar 4 and Luminar AI since some years ago. I got those programs because of these AI editing capabilities and I was very happy with them. Now with this added to Lightroom, I wonder if they will allow it to be part of a standalone software because as a hobbyist, I am NOT paying a monthly subscription for this. If that is the case, I will stick to Luminar.
interesting! yes from what i hear from others using the alternatives, adobe is a bit late to the party in many ways :) BUT im glad they’re making up for lost time! And the new Ps compositing AI is also insanely promising, so for me I like the LR Ps combo! But I get wanting to avoid another subscription 👌🏻
seems a lot like simplified PS, and that is never a bad thing
AGREED! Im an “avoid photoshop whenever possible” kinda guy 😅
@@SignatureEdits It does happen a lot faster if you don't like PS. I still love it for a totally different style of edit. While AI might freak out other photographers, it sure makes selecting subjects easier.
@@creedpowell You're not kidding! I almost can't even remember what it was like back when I had to brush everything manually one layer at a time... Crazy!
Tone curves has always been the most powerful tool on any image editor, not "just became".
It’s always been a key part for me, but it wasn’t always the central part inside an edit. Now it’s definitely become my new go to :)
I am basically not using sliders anymore
Remember to keep the water horizon straight in the third image. It’s the first thing that hit me when I saw the image. Thanks for the awesome Lightroom tips! I never use tone curve but I’m going to try it.
You bet Jim! Cheers 😄
@@SignatureEdits I think it looks fine, not everything has to be super straight and perfect lol, beautiful images btw.
@@felm.974 For sure! Sometimes being a little imperfect makes it feel more real. Just depends what you like and what you're going for :)
@@SignatureEdits Thanks man, nothing personal, lol... :) great tutorial... question, if you have time, I have been using LR CC very comfortably, why would anyone choose LR Classic over the cloud one? I'm very confused about it lol
I don't know if I can go to LR Classic at this point lol
So, they did photoshop in lightroom 🤔
😂 Yes I guess so
maybe someone can answer for me but i never understood why people use lightroom. photoshop does all of this and better.
You keep saying emulate. The word is simulate. Educate yourself.
Interesting thoughts! I looked it up to confirm... Emulate: "to strive to equal or excel. : imitate. especially : to imitate by means of an emulator. : to equal or approach equality with." - this can be done within software which might emulate something in real life... For example, an airplane cockpit in a video game.
So...
1) Emulate = pretty much a synonym of simulate.
2) Technically, this is software emulating a real life scenario (Blue hour) so a person could potentially use this word and be more accurate than the word simulate.
While simulate I agree might have been a slightly better choice, what I don't agree with is random people on the internet leaving unnecessary negative comments that suggest someone lack's education ;) Let's keep it positive my friend!
Cheers
The man is teaching Lightroom, this is not an English class. Sit ya ass down and learn or stfu and leave. I hate ignorant mofos.
@owen: the definition "correction" is all that's needed here. The rest is just nasty. I guess you feel better now, but please stop
