I swear to god, every other Lightroom tutorial about calibration goes like this: "So usually what I do is that I slide these to each end and see what happens, you can get my masterclass for $200". It's so nice to see someone actually explain this!

Yup. It helps understand the difference of the global & individual sliders affect on the colors. I can use & like the individual sliders but, never had much luck with the global adjustments for my edits, therefore I tend to stay away from it. Maybe I'll play with them some more.

ngl I went into this expecting another useless "tutorial" video that boils down to 'buy my presets' but this was actually incredibly useful. Like actually worth the title "will change your lightroom editing forever". The color wheel example made it all super clear as well, appreciate the video!

The way you pack more information into an 18 minute video than some of my (not photography related) grad school lectures is seriously impressive. I had begun to play with these calibration sliders, as well, though I had not yet "taken notes" do try to master them. I wonder if our reluctance to learn about this power is the name Adobe gave this panel.
"Calibration" sounds like something inextricably linked to the hardware, while using the white balance eyedropper/sampler seemed "no fuss". What seemed to be missing was a straightforward way to do something similar in a one-click move, in the calibration panel.
Your demonstration really showed me how the power of these two panels can be used together to Great advantage! Thank you, Muchly, Pat! You have gone a long way toward helping us transform our work INTO Our work, using what we already have.

Exceptionally well done, Pat ! You've a talent for making the complex understandable without oversimplifying the entire process. I'd love to see a follow on to this introduction where you could expand on how the two tools, Calibration and the HSL sliders interact. I'm a bit fuzzy on when and why you cease editing in Calibration and shift over to the HSL approach. But many, many thanks for helping me find a way to make Fuji's interpretation of what chartreuse is vs my preference for what these great green/yellow Spring colors should look like. Be well and stay safe. Slainte !

I was so ready to complain that yet another photographer doesn't understand what the Calibration tab does, but you nailed it. Nice work!
Another way i like to think of it is as a color harmonizer. By shifting the primaries, you create different hue relationships that can either harmonize more, or less.
Funny tho, my standard Calib is much like yours... -red, +green, -blue. Images just look so much better when pushed in that direction.
