I swear to god, every other Lightroom tutorial about calibration goes like this: "So usually what I do is that I slide these to each end and see what happens, you can get my masterclass for $200". It's so nice to see someone actually explain this!

haha i hear you. it's my goal to break that kind of stigma :)

Yup. It helps understand the difference of the global & individual sliders affect on the colors. I can use & like the individual sliders but, never had much luck with the global adjustments for my edits, therefore I tend to stay away from it. Maybe I'll play with them some more.

I had begun to play with these calibration sliders, as well, though I had not yet "taken notes" do try to master them. I wonder if our reluctance to learn about this power is the name Adobe gave this panel.
"Calibration" sounds like something inextricably linked to the hardware, while using the white balance eyedropper/sampler seemed "no fuss". What seemed to be missing was a straightforward way to do something similar in a one-click move, in the calibration panel.
Your demonstration really showed me how the power of these two panels can be used together to Great advantage! Thank you, Muchly, Pat! You have gone a long way toward helping us transform our work INTO Our work, using what we already have.

You're right, as I've developed my own style, I've recently moved my Calibration panel up to the #2 spot, behind Basics. Do the Basic toning first, then color Calibration, then Tone Curve, then HSL, then Grading, then Detail.

I was so ready to complain that yet another photographer doesn't understand what the Calibration tab does, but you nailed it. Nice work!
Another way i like to think of it is as a color harmonizer. By shifting the primaries, you create different hue relationships that can either harmonize more, or less.
Funny tho, my standard Calib is much like yours... -red, +green, -blue. Images just look so much better when pushed in that direction.

If I did not understood wrong, calibration is something like white balancing but for colors. Something I realized with a new monitor I bought that I have working beside an folder one, is the difference between how each one shows the colors, no matter how customizable is the screen, you can even calibrate some monitors to match your printer, you will always get a different result depending on the display (may it be a screen or a printed paper) so I decided that I won’t worry that much to be too precise, just kind of go for a result that more or less matches the idea of that image that I have in my mind.
