  • Hey Everyone,
    We all know that BB2020 is just round the corner, and thanks to the big leak, we’ve seen what appears to be the full rulebook.
    We’ve had a lot of people ask if there’s a brief out there to let coaches know the highlights of the changes.
    So if you’re getting to the tabletop again soon and haven’t caught up on the key changes - this quick video is for you!

    Its worth mentioning that the d16 for MVP ignores any players that ended up with a casualty, so they removed the worst part of that nonsense.

    When the Blood Bowl 3 game comes out I think I'll have a lot of fun just building up teams with random level up skills.

    Thanks for the talk through of the changes, been out of the game a while but it seems like I should still recognise it 🤔. Wildly innacurate sounds like fun (applies to throw team mate too?) but will it make long passing too risky... if long bombs are at - 3, then 1=fumble, and 2-4=wildly innacurate, right? With 3/8 chance the ball goes backwards on the scatter?

    Is there anything on Spiralling Expenses? I remember back in the day that there was a discussion about teams with a treasury over 100k. So any cash over 100k would be added to the team's TV, which I kinda liked.
    However, Jervis at the time overruled that change. Is there anything similar to that happening for BB 2020?

      Oh wow, I just checked Mango - and I can’t find anything like Spiralling Expenses anymore! There’s Expensive Mistakes; but that’s just for cash in the treasury.

    Maneuverability - thats the key word describing the meta behind the new edition. Nerfing a pass overal is one thing, nerfing a leap/ breack tackle/ shadowing speak for it self. Don't forget nerfing a Claw, ST increase and ~Pilling On~, which does not longer exist. I think it's going to be a bunch of really slow paced games with a max 2-1 result.

      Any idea why they nerfed passing? Most games are running focused already. Why make it even more prevalent?

      @@03dashk64 Probably because Elf Bullshit became too big of a meme for them. Honestly what I'm gonna miss most is my hail-mary attempt to pick up and pass with my troll on the last turn. That's where we are really losing out in this version, no more troll/rogre/minotaur pass plays :(

      @@03dashk64 Yes, I my opinion they should have made passing much easier not more difficult. Maybe two dice rolls for a pass like you've got on a two dice block? So you would only fail a 2+ throw at 1/36?

    As far as the player improvements, the two primary skill columns are better (or equal for first chosen primary) to the old progression. The chosen secondary and stat columns are slower than the old until you get to the final improvement. Stacking six stat improvements costs less (172 SPP compared to 176) than six improvements in the old rules.

    So can I use a d6 and d8 to make a d16? For example if d6 1-3 take d8 value at face (1-8) but if it 4-6 add 8 to d8 (1-8 + 8 = 9-16). People talk about d16 having weight issues that create uneven results. Am I looking for equal 1/16 chance or was the dice weight considered?

    I think another interesting thing is that at the start of the game you randomly select Kicking team instead of the old roll off to see who gets to choose kicking or receiving team.

      Amusingly it’s worded in almost exactly the same way as the CRP! Which I don’t think I (or anyone else has) ever read 😂 (“Flip the Blood Bowl coin or roll a D6 to see which coach will choose who will set up first. “)

    I can actually see a lot of value in random advances for players like skinks that only naturally get agility.
    Get your sure hands skink or two but then once you have them random advances like diving tackle, jump up, side step, sneaky git...none of them are bad but there isn't much that will substantially improve a skink, they have most of what they need in their first game. The random advances make them slightly better while keeping TV down.
    I'd probably choose a couple to get sure hands/block and randomly advance the rest.

    @10:35 you mentioned that 1 or less with modifiers is Wildly Inaccurate. I don't know if it is a mistake in the rules but it is only a modified 1 that is Wildly Inaccurate,

      @@BoneheadPodcast indeed, I suspect that it is an oversight rather than an intended rule like the Av Injury improving your armour!
      E. G. Imperial Thrower (Pa3+) out of the box doing a long bomb (-3) looking at dice results of:
      D6:(modified) Outcome
      1: Fumble
      2:(-1) Inaccurate
      3:(0) Inaccurate
      4:(1) Wildly Inaccurate
      5:(2) Inaccurate
      6:(3) Accurate
      Which is bonkers!

    But one SmartaXX Comment: The Passing Attribute isn't new, it's just re-included from the late 80s/early 90s Version of the game :D

    Can a friendly player to the thrower attempt to interfere with a wildly inaccurate pass? If so does it still count as a turn over if caught?

      Alas, the interference can only be made by “a single player on the opposing team”, but it’s not a turnover is a Wild Pass is caught by your own team! (At least it’s not on the Turnover list!)

    I have questions about the game.
    I am trying to re-introduce myself after 10 years and also introduce new players to the game.
    My questions are:
    1) what are the best skills to know for beginners? Then we could expand from there
    2) if I was to limit league to 8 races what would be a diverse but competitive selection. I was thinking humans, orcs, wood elves, dark elves, skaven, dwarves, lizardmen, undead - but no chaos or goblins 🤬
    3) any suggestions for how to learn the rules or what to start learning about first
    Any advice on channel is helpful

      Hey Mannfred, they have! If you win a game you roll 1D6, and if it’s higher than your DF: you get another 1. If you lose, roll 1D6: if it’s lower than your DF: you lose one! If it’s a draw - nothing changes!

    Players should have to use their passing stat to intercept the ball. The better you are at throwing, the better you also are at throwing denials. That way throwers are important pieces to have on both offence and defence.

    Any comments on Stalling? The rules seem to explain what has to be done for a player to 'stall' but then kinda drops off a cliff with no explanation of what penalty, if any, occurs for doing it.

      Hey Dralasite - that's what we thought too! However, it's linked to a result on the Prayers to Nuffle table (#14 - Throw a Rock)!
      Otherwise it isn't mentioned again - but I reckon it'll be brought it as a perma-rule in some Stadiums etc!

    Makes me laugh when people say 'passing is now a new state, when you mean it's reintroduced. 2nd ef bloodbowl had passing and coolness as stats. They were taken out for the 1996 version to simplify the rules

      Hey ThirdPartyInterest, Bretonnians... aren't in the BB2020 rulebook as such! The Imperial Nobility
      (th-cam.com/video/b1ghg0lkORg/w-d-xo.html) team has taken their spot in many ways; cheap linemen with Fend, Block/Catch blitzers... It's interesting, it's not Bretonnians, but it's close...

    For reference fan factor ranges from 0 - 18, so 12 is not cheating.

    Passing Stat felt and still feels like a cash grab to me. It reminds me of Strike From The Shadows for Raven Guard in Warhammer 40,000: one or two years later and they scrapped it. Maybe find rules you like, house rule things, and just have fun. The community kept Blood Bowl going.

    One thing to note:
    Try not to use a real d16. They are pretty badly weighted. We done a Testing session and 1-4 and 13-16 are the most common results you will get (or try a dice not from GW but who produces such a die)
    When you have to roll one, use an online tool or an app

      I roll a D8 and a D6. If the D6 is 1-3, the result is whatever the D8 says, if the D6 is 4-6 then add +8 to the D8

    I really don't agree with what their doing to claw. Think about when and who you can use claw against:
    AV7- Claw is literally worthless
    AV8- Claw is mostly worthless. MB can already give a +1 to AV or Inj rolls but not both. That odds that you will actually need a +1 to both rolls is about 4%
    AV9- Claw is just barely worth it. Because MB already gives a +1 to AV rolls, that odds that you will need +2 roll is 14%. You can add another 4% to capture those situations where a +1 to both rolls would have been useful. So Claw will be useful roughly 18% of hits against AV9 players.
    So, in conclusion, claw will very rarely be useful and really not even that impactiful in those rare situations where it is useful
    By comparison, MB is useful against all opponents and nearly doubles your chances of removing someone from the pitch against all opponents.
    A better alternative:
    Claw +1 to AV rolls
    MB +1 to Injury rolls
    This nerf would be far more fair to mutation oriented teams.

      You have to remember that while 4%, 14% and 18% dont make much difference on singular rolls, it still makes a colossal difference over the course of multiple knockdowns in a turn and multiple turns/games/seasons, especially for the SPP ramping gains you could get on a clawPOMB beastman, who imo was the target of the nerf. The odds on clawPOMB before were just ridiculous. 45% to KO or CAS is what made ClawPOMB so busted, and im pretty sure that 45% doesnt factor in stuns, which can be just as bad as a KO if done at the right time. If you change PO or MB, you weaken everyone else in the process of weakening the problem, which is chaos teams getting clawPOMB on reg levelups, so you arent really fixing the core issue as much as if you just get rid of the stacking, which is a fine chage imo. It brings the other bashing teams a bit more in line with late chaos, while still allowing chaos to take claw if they want to gain the slight edge in armor heavy metas. claw nerf also makes the lvl 2 Minotaur less dangerous, which is probably good considering you can hypothetically rng hacks claw as early as 3 SPP. It's just too bad that nerfed claw also has some collateral damage to other mutation teams, but nerfing MB wouldve negatively affected many more teams than just nerfing Chaos and claw, and i genuinely dont think anyone serious takes PO without taking Claw and MB, so nerfing PO wouldnt do much to stop late chaos from wiping teams off the map. Honestly idek how you would nerf PO without fundamentally changing how the skill works

      ​@@SuccimusPrime it's not that I don't think ClawPOMB was OP, it was, I just there's so many better solutions to the problem that what they went with.
      Solution 1
      Claw +1 to AV rolls
      Solution 2
      Claws +2 to all AV rolls. A player with claws can never take MB and vice versa.
      Solution 3
      Claws always breaks armor on a 7+. A player with claws can never take MB and vice versa.
      The option they went with, where you can kinda combo claws with MB... but not really... and definitely not efficiently was the worst possible choice IMO. What will end up happening is hardly anyone will take claws. I would have preferred to have claws be a slightly better MB replacement for mutation teams than to have it nerfed so badly you can barely make use of it.
      Claws in 2020 will be worthless against wood elves, very close to worthless against humans, and a small bonus against dwarves. a +1 bonus in 1/3 of your games is so not worth it, lol. I think people are fooling themselves into thinking that claws will still be good against AV 9+ when it definitely won't be. It's purely a heavy armor buster now.
      and frankly, I don't think the game needs a heavy armor buster AT ALL. You almost never see people take +1 AV over +1 MV. That's in large part due to the fact claws makes AV upgrades unattractive, but also because 1 player with extra armor doesn't really make you more likely to win. Heavy AV teams are already held in check by their lack of speed and the fact even a single player removed their team makes their cagey playstyle much more difficult.

      Hey Marley G! Yeah, Nurgle as a whole had a tough deal in BB2020, but the Beast (like the team) starts getting much better with some SPPs!!

      Break Tackle got better for weaker players, so I'm not sure it's working how they wanted it to!!

      Oof yeah, Passing has definitely become just the Thrower's job! And I think a lot of leagues will change up the redrafting rules... but what happens in BB3 is anyone's guess!!

    Break Tackle: Ehhhh... not a fan, but I can see why they did it.
    Claw nerf: Awwww they're all crying, cry some more you weaklings. Grow some goddamn spines, holy shit!
    Accurate/Cannoneer: Not a fan. No need to split passing like that.
    SPP Point system: Not a fan. Seems a bit much for a "double" cost. Maybe 50% or 75% more instead of 100%.
