Being now retired, I miss it too. Especially the heels! In fact, I don’t wear heels if I don’t have to because of the comfort, but I really miss the look and the feeling.
You are very good at explaining.

Same! I watched Alyssa's 2x2 formula video, matching two smart items with two casual. Had some fun and found some use for a few work separates I thought might not get another outing.

Me too, and personally I can’t give up wearing blazers, but now I wear them more casually. But I like the structure of a blazer, even with jeans!

@@marilyndoering2501yes! Blazers are my jam! I think they’re the perfect finisher for almost any outfit and great when you need that extra layer for warmth when the AC is blasting in the office.

As a stay at home mom with three little ones (the youngest is 10 weeks), this video is so not for me. But i really enjoyed it. I have a very hatd time putting nice outfits together that are suitable for breastfeeding and runing around at a playground whithout feeling like a mess. You're video gave me the urge to get creative with my closet instead of buying new things. That's why I love your channel. Even the content that isn't tailored towards me, gives me so much inspiration.❤

I love jackets. And I love the looks in this video. Belts rock! They make an outfit. And of course jewelry. Metal and leather make our basics boom! And not just for work. Cheers.

This video summarizes why your style tips are so brilliant: proportion, flow and details are everything! Your tips have really helped me sort out and recombine my core wardrobe pieces and sharpen my look. The whole process has been an amazing confidence builder! I think my three words are Classic/Tailored, Sporty, and Relaxed 70s Chic (is there one word for that?). I, too, lean into the Bombshell for those date nights and fancy events. I'm 60, but I'm fit and athletic enough to wear the occasional mini skirt and boots for the right occasion (I keep it classy but my husband loves this look, too.) I've been mixing jewelry metals, mixing clothing and accessory textures, thrifting vintage classics and shopping my closet for years. One of the first people I interviewed for a magazine out of college had an attic full of 1950s ready-to-wear dept. store classics she once wore to cocktail parties in New York. We hit it off. She was headed to a nursing home and noticed we were a similar size, so she filled up three suitcases and gave them to me. I've been hooked ever since. I work from home full time as a film journalist and marketing specialist, and have several public-facing events to attend every month, so I can--and do--wear a mix of casual and dressier outfits every week. Even on days of only Zoom calls, you'll probably find me in a crisp tee and blazer and jewelry brightens my face on camera. Pulling an outfit together in the morning is now fun because I can more easily combine what I've got, and it really is the first creative act of the day. Kudos to you and your channel for helping me modernize and intermix old and sustainable new pieces to avoid the LARPing look you can get when dressing head-to-toe in a single era (or leaning too much into yearly trends). I've shared your videos with friends, and this particular video with my 20-something daughter, who is starting a new hybrid job after working from home throughout the pandemic and after. I'm a huge fan. Keep the videos coming!

I work for a nonprofit that serves youth and young adults, so our business casual is less business than many. Because it’s a team environment and nonprofit, we may be asked to carry boxes or do other more physical work. I also work in a very outdoorsy city, so I really try to blend casual with some polish. I wear a lot of jeans with silk and/or jackets, and I still get comments about being dressed up. I think that juxtaposition is actually my style! Jewelry is absolutely a key accessory for dressing things up when I want or have to.

We have been in a hybrid 1-2 day/week model since covid but have recently been told we will be adjusting to a mandatory 3 days per week in office in the spirit of culture and collaboration.
Prior to covid denim was only allowed on Fridays - but we have since relaxed our policy to allow denim all the time and no longer have a ‘formal’ dress code, rather - a list of ‘not recommended’ items which are quite reasonable and obvious (athletic wear, distressed/ripped denim, flip flops etc)
I too tend to lean to a ‘corporate’ look even in my every day life and although I love remote work, I’m also enjoying getting ‘dressed’ more often.

Wow, that’s quite a change in your work culture. Have you noticed that since returning to an onsite office setting that it seems like women have forgotten how to dress for a professional environment? When my workplace transitioned from nearly 100% remote to working in the office, it’s been like a free for all with the dress code.

😊Good for you! Dressing "appropriate" for the circumstances〰️let alone being stylish〰️is truly becoming a lost art.
😉Plz know that whenever I spy a smartly dressed person in my orbit🚀, esp. when it's wholly in keeping w/whatever the occasion &/or their purpose out in the world🌐, it completely lifts my spirit😁.
And, if I happen to brush by them more closely, I am quick to give a compliment. They deserve recognition & extra encouragement for their discernment & discipline👍.
🤦‍♀️I'm sorry〰️but when it comes to any profession (& our promotibility)〰️our choice of dress highly impacts people's perception of our 👩‍💼credibility, authority, & worthiness. Plus, it's also a good indication of our self-respect, upbringing, & our mental state too.
😬During lockdowns & WFH🏡, I was particularly appalled in the media. How was I to take some so called expert in any field or governmental role on a variety of topics SERIOUSLY when they look sloppy & unkempt? Practically wearing such disreputable clothing that you should only be caught doing your messy household chores or gardening in🙄.
😵Worse, how about those incredibly cluttered or inappropriate backdrops on those Zoom calls!?
❤Love collections as a maximalista, but can we apply 🤏some organization? Surely, they can manage a cleverly curated background. Maybe not for your entire dwelling, but at least orchestrate a simple professional looking vignette directly BEHIND your talking head🗣.
It was fine if you were listening to audio 📻 of such broadcasts only. With such incongruent visuals, I would 💯% lose sight of what they were trying to communicate. Get fully distracted by how shabby the guest or their environment looked. No one wants a prisonlike backdrop or to become fascinated by your taste in personal decor.
🤔Think the sophistication of 🎞film & TV📺 has spoiled us. If they want to look capable, people obviously need a little costuming & art direction for their home set-up.
🧐Maybe I am naive. This dumbing down at EVERY layer of society could be strategic. A ploy to keep us distracted from their actual speech or to overlook what basically amounts to empty word salad. I dunno. Sorry for the conspiratorial rant...
Grew up w/a SAHM🥰 who freshened her 💄face👄 & wore a pretty house dress & heels for housekeeping. She smartened up even more if she ran errands or attended PTA. She dressed to feel attractive for herself & her husband as well as to honor 🕊God (particularly @ Church⛪️). My level of formality & style is certainly more casual these days, but her values, principles, & training in this direction still resonates strongly within me.

I work from our small farm where our cabinet business is. We have two large Aussie doodle puppies who jump, two small dogs and 2 horses but still want to look good though So I almost always wear jeans and keep the dressier items above the waist-jewelry and nice tops. On Wednesdays I run errands and see a few people so I get a chance to add a blazer or leather jacket. Thanks for showing us the importance of proportions.

I am not a huge jewellery person but I definitely use earrings to alter my look. I have a small head, so large earrings look ridiculous on me, but there are plenty of smaller ones that pack a punch. I always wear my diamond studs in my second piercing, I just change the first piercing out. Mostly for something that has some movement. Loved this video, Alyssa. Thank you for all of your excellent tips and the hard work putting these videos together ❤️

I love how you styled up these outfits! I'd also love to see a video that shows how to wear these office pieces more casually or for every day wear without it looking like I came straight from the office. I dearly love my blazers, work tops and fancier button downs but feel too corporate when I wear them.

I work in a large corporate environment. Pre-pandemic, women used to wear sleek dresses, blazers, and high heels. Post-pandemic, it is more like casual or smart casual. The last outfit you wore would fit in well. People (including our C-suite) may wear a sweater with trousers. Lately I've been seeing some people wear casual summer dresses, which would have seemed out of place pre-pandemic. So overall more casual but with maybe a slight return back to more polished.

Yes, I've been back to the office one day a week for almost a year now in a casual office (Toronto). Lots of women wearing pants, but starting to see dresses and skirts too as the weather is warming up. For shoes, I still see mostly runners, but also ballet flats and loafers as people are commuting via public transit. Not too many heels, but heeled boots in the winter (not much snow this year). Personally, I've been wearing my blazers everywhere, mostly with jeans (work, grocery store, errands, etc.)
I like your nura earrings! Are they heavy? (I have the nura crossover ring in silver and I love it.)

Thank you for explaining the different looks. Really love the insights ❤ We have been working 3 days in the office since covid and it's not looking like it's going to change. I like a classic relaxed look at the office even though the dress code literally could be "clothes". People are wearing everything from 3-piece suits to sequined shorts to worn jeans and old band t-shirt (IT organisation 🤷‍♀) but I need to be able to take a meeting on behalf of my boss and feel better when I'm well dressed.

Love all these looks and the jewelry! I changed jobs this year and am having fun reinterpreting workwear in an environment that is hybrid, as well as much less corporate. Making “office pants” part of a more casual outfit, for example, or trying different colour and rexture combos, blending in vintage pieces. I’ve also phased heels completely out of my wardrobe and am now exclusively in flats, and that’s been fun too, getting pants rehemmed and seeing how to style them with flats. I love the look of heels - and Alyssa makes me seriously reconsider them 😂 but they’re just not practical or comfy for a lot of walking and public transit commuting.

If you have to have an MRI at the hospital, you can't have a welded on bracelet. They will probably cut it off your arm.

No woman should wear hight heels….. they are horrible for our body, feet, and back…… style is not worth issues later in life

I’ve been following you for years and have loved your content, so I hate to even say this, but I’ve found myself leaving your channel, because of all the sponsored content. It just feels less authentic and more like I’m sitting through a sale pitch. Also clashes with your mission towards less consumption. Just the honest feedback from someone who has been with you for awhile…
