1:18 In Kashubian, in addition to "Bóg zapłac" there is also "Dzãka" as a thank you. 2:14 😃 The Silesian "Dziynkujã" has appeared. However, it is not the flag of Silesia, but of the province of Lower Silesia in German times.
Obrigado/ obrigada stems from the same root as "obligated". So it kinda means "no worries, I was obligated to help you in the first place" or smth like that xD
Dankeschön, dass es diesen Kanal ILoveLanguages! gibt. Es ist so aufregend soviele verschiedene Sprachen sich anzuhören und kennenzulernen von denen man sonst nichts weiß.
Do you use Ersä much? Is it taught in schools? Every (or nearly every) Uralic language except for Finnish, Estonian, and Hungarian is endangered, so I hope they are being used and not forgotten.
Lithuanian person: *sneezes* Me: Bless you Lithuanian person: Ačiū Me: … bless you Lithuanian person: Ačiū Me: Um… bless you Lithuanian person: Ačiū Me: Okay, I’m not gonna keep on saying that if you keep on sneezing
I recently found two books in the Komi language at a thrift store in the USA. I bought them of course because they were interesting. There was writing in the front that said they were given to people from a foreign exchange student. I guess they decided they didn’t want the books anymore.
One of my favourite "Thank You" in European Languages are: 🇦🇱= Faleminderit! 🇧🇬= Благодаря! (Blagodarya) 🇭🇷= Hvala! 🇪🇪= Aitah! 🇫🇴= Takk! 🇫🇮= Kiitos! 🇨🇵= Merci! 🇮🇪= Go raibh maith agat! 🇱🇹= Ačiū! 🇨🇿= Děkuji! 🇱🇻= Paldies! 🇲🇰= Благодарам! (Bladogaram!) 🇵🇱=Dziękuję! 🏴= Tapadh Ieat! 🇺🇦= Дякую! (Dyakuyu!) And Others
Karelian (and vepsian) "thank you" is Russian spasibo (spasi bog - god save). The Kashubian "thank you" sounds to me like "God will pay" 😅! Also Russian thank you is "благодарю - blagodaryu" like Bulgarian and Macedonian
I think many belarussians would prefer the white-red-white flag. It is a historical flag, now used by the opposition of the Lukashenko administration and the flag used since independence until 1995.
Very similar to Russian thank you. Spasibo (thank you) = spasi (save) + bog (God). God Save you! In Old East Slavic "thank you" is *съпаси богъ (*sŭpasi bogŭ, 'God save (you)")! OMG it's very similar!
Adyghe = adyghe republic in russia Albanian = albania Aromanian = in some parts of the southern balkan peninsula Armenian = armenia Azerbaijani = azerbaijan and northwestern iran Bashkir = republic of bashkiria in russia Basque = in basque republic in spain Bavarian = bavaria (germany) Belarussian = belarus
How do you say "Thank you!" in your native language? :D
Ευχαριστώ
Merci
Bedankt
Dziękuję
Hvala
Gracias
Ďakujem
Хвала (хвā;ла)
There's a few but we say Köszönöm
I say Aitäh!
It's cool that you included the minority languages of Poland (Kashubian and Silesian).
1:18 In Kashubian, in addition to "Bóg zapłac" there is also "Dzãka" as a thank you.
2:14 😃 The Silesian "Dziynkujã" has appeared. However, it is not the flag of Silesia, but of the province of Lower Silesia in German times.
Bóg zapłac is more religious and formal
In Maltese we also say "niżżik ħajr" (though to be fair it is not used a lot nowadays).
Great work as usual Andy, keep the videos coming :)
Ğ
Salam sabahın xeyir hi andy good morning 😃
some derived from Arabic :
1. _Barakallah_ ! (praise to God) or
2. _Rahmat_ (mercy)
Teşekkürler was also derived from the Arabic sh-k-r root, and then Turkified which is why it has an ü, and the Turkish plural suffix -ler was added
That's shukran
I love how portuguese "Thank you" is just so different compared to all the other romance languages
Yes, in fact the world "obrigado" means "pleased" or "content"!!!
Obrigado/ obrigada stems from the same root as "obligated". So it kinda means "no worries, I was obligated to help you in the first place" or smth like that xD
The equivalent of it exists in English. People say 'much obliged'.
in Italian you can also say Obbligato. Very similar to Obrigado.
It comes from a longer medieval expression
Danke! (German/Deutsch)
Looking forward to Asian languages- hope you do make them!

Do you use Ersä much? Is it taught in schools? Every (or nearly every) Uralic language except for Finnish, Estonian, and Hungarian is endangered, so I hope they are being used and not forgotten.
I really like that you put both Istriot and Istro-Romanian
Love this channel. Very informative for amateur linguists.

I recently found two books in the Komi language at a thrift store in the USA. I bought them of course because they were interesting. There was writing in the front that said they were given to people from a foreign exchange student. I guess they decided they didn’t want the books anymore.

Karelian (and vepsian) "thank you" is Russian spasibo (spasi bog - god save). The Kashubian "thank you" sounds to me like "God will pay" 😅!
Also Russian thank you is "благодарю - blagodaryu" like Bulgarian and Macedonian
Yes and the second variant of thank you in Russian “blagodaryu” literally means “I give you blessing/grace/good”.
This is amazing! Looking forward to this video in the Pacific languages 😊
This is so cool!
Thank you for your amazing channel 💜

Баркалла! Спасибо!
I love how the Portuguese word for thank you sounds like the Spanish word Obligado/a which means obligated if I'm not mistaken
You're right. "Obrigado" comes from something like "I am obligated to thank you".
Haha love how u put same voice on Chechen and Kumyk
I say: Tack and Kiitos! :D
Haristo multu ti aestu video!(Aromanian)

It's amazing how european languages changed along the time.
Wow… There are so many more countries in a continent than I know..
A lot of them dont have countries, and are minorities.
Most of these are minority languages, there are about 50 countries at least partially located in Europe
"Teşekkürler, Teşekkür ederim, Sağ/saa olun" Turkic language 😘
