I believe she's using them only because these are countries within the EU where English is an official language. Not a replacement of the UK. Just an acknowledgment that Brexit happened. Had Brexit not occurred, I believe the UK's flag would be there as well. Notice that Dutch has both the Belgian and Netherlands' flag to represent it. French had France, Belgium, and Luxembourg. German had Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg, Greek had Greece and Cyprus, and Swedish had Sweden and Finland. Languages with multiple countries where the language is an official language within the EU have those countries' flags represented.
Andy (or anyone else interested), what are your thoughts on a proposed "Indo-Uralic" theory linking the Indo-European & Uralic languages (and possibly others) into a single macro family? I like Kortlandt's theory in particular.
It’s quite possible for me that Proto Indo-Uralic really existed in the past. If you look at the reconstructed Proto Indo-European and Proto Uralic you will see quite a lot of similarities in grammar and in the basic vocabulary as well. Too many to be considered only loanwords or chance resemblances.
NMC1992 it wasn’t me who figured it out, obviously. I’m not an expert at all about this matter. I was fascinated by the proto indo-european language so I studied it a little by myself. I found it very interesting and I learned quite a few things about its grammar and its lexicon. Then I did the same thing with proto-uralic and I noticed some similarities between the two. There are many theories among the linguists that try to link one language family to another, and the connection between Uralic and Indo-European is the most plausible one according to me. Then I searched for other resources on the internet about that.

Gosh, as a part of me learning Maltese, I'm lucky enough to meet an elderly Maltese speaker from Australia via an online forum, whose rural main island farmer family migrated to the country in the 1890s, freezing their dialect in time in the process. She and her family preserve the faint 3ayn sound and uvular "q" pronunciation (even though they still use the glottal stop outside personal conversations in their family, especially when talking with European Maltese speakers). Not only that, she doesn't only use "Eġittu" for Egypt, but also "Masar" and "Masri". Her family is literate enough that she was able to write a short Maltese poem with at least 80% native words. She even said that her grandparents pronounced "għodwa" as /ɣodwa/ and "għajn" almost like /ʕaːjn/. Therefore, to them, "qgħadt" and "qatt" were very different. They said "ikħal" and "iżraq" instead of "blu". "dqiqa" for minute, "lewn" for color, dark "l"s in "Alla". Maybe dialectal differences or other convergent things might've happened for the latter, but regardless all these things really made Maltese sound so much more like its parent, Siculo-Arabic. The language is so small yet so vigorous and diverse. Listening to her really gave me insight on how a language can change so rapidly beyond sight. Love the language so much still, may Alla always bless her. Thanks for this video, too, Andy. Stay safe as always 🤍

As a person from Croatia, I can tell you, no matter the small differences in the languages and the fact they're mutually intelligeble and both of slavic descent, it's Croatian in Croatia and Serbian in Serbia, there is no such thing as "serbo-croatian". The fact that so many foreign linguists try to push that just because they think they know better, even though the vast majority of local experts here and people in general tell them otherwise, is simply irritating at this point. It's like telling a Ukrainian person he/she is speaking Russo-Ukrainian because the languages are both slavic, understand each other and are similar. NO. You can not disrespect nations like that. The official language in Croatia is STANDARD CROATIAN and nothing else.
This video probably meant the official languages of the EU. Turkish and Luxembourgish are currently not official languages of the EU. Also, it's Croatian that is official in tge EU, not Serbo-Croatian.
I confess that i was a little confused at first in the english part when i saw the maltese and irish flag instead of the UK, them i remembered that this video is about the EU. lol I'm so retarded

@@minimodecimomeridio4534 That's very interesting! How did you find that out? Is it the result of your observations or also more tangible documents?
