Considering at the end of 2018, he mentioned he was part of the "Goodfellows" and served under a Faerie King... this doesn't surprise me that he knows of The Scottish Play. The one play with a name so cursed, none dare speak it.
Nothing good came from gods calling kratos ‘champion’. Ares back in the day considered Kratos his champion to overthrow Zeus (sure he didn’t call kratos champion directly, but still I’m sure other gods and mortals saw kratos as such). Thus, it made perfect sense to me as to why kratos responded in the way he did when Tyr called Atreus that.
I think you guys kinda touched on it in this reaction. Kratos has been trying to be a better person and a better father for Atreus these past few years. I don't think it all stems from the prophecy about Kratos's death, although that is definitely a huge driving force behind it all. They grew pretty close by the end of the last game and I think Kratos would have naturally shifted this way regardless of the prophecy. He was pretty close with his daughter afterall from what I could tell. You guys also pretty much hit the nail right on the head with Atreus and how he kinda lets all this stuff like "Champion" and "prophecy" get to his head. Kratos has been seeing this the whole time yet he still chose to follow his son in the end. If you look back at the sections of the game when they were looking for Tyr, you'll notice in moments that Kratos is actually trying to have more adult conversations with Atreus. He's trying to get him to think about his actions and his intent behind them. Atreus says he doesn't want war but clearly the prophecy is strongly hinting at Ragnarok being or having a war. And from everything we've seen or heard about Odin so far, a war seems like the only available option that would work. When Kratos sees this last mural and how it doesn't actually specify who's all involved and what part they actually play in it, he chooses to pull back on it before Atreus digs himself in too deep. And thats where stern father comes in. Unfortunately Atreus is hellbent on the Giants and their prophecies at this point tho. And Kratos loses his temper seeing that Atreus is not listening to him. He messed up pretty bad here tho. Of all the things he coulda done, telling your TEEN child that they're your child and NOTHING more is the total opposite of what you wanna say. I woulda been pissed if my parents ever told me that as a child, teen, or adult. This was another great part tho! It only gets better from here!!!😁
This is a brilliant response. This is a slight spoiler so you guys, feel free to ignore But I like that Kratos realizes towards the end that he was unintentionally but slowly falling back into his Greek days and this revelation led to one of the best father son moments in gaming history imo.
A normal and good parent will hardly say that with any flawed intent. Kratos's perspective is clear and makes it apparent again and again. A child/Teenager might still get mad but an adult should not. The latter must understand where why father is like that and be more understandable and better. Otherwise, he/she belongs to the former category. Anyways, if Atreaus was an adult Kratos's behavior would be much different. He will treat him for his age or maturity but in this case the boy clearly is not and in the midst of a big bad situation.

I've played this game start to finish twice, because of the amazing visuals and the equally amazing story/writing/dialogue. Im glad to be able to experience this again through y'all. The reaction to Kratos getting up from that table was right on queue lol, definitely felt that! It only gets better, im excited for y'all :)
One thing to note about Kratos as a father is that he grew up as a Spartan soldier that didn't know his father was Zeus until he was already the God of War. So its not that he wasn't interested in Atreus and his powers but more of not having any relative experience in fathering a god. He is trying to be a good father to a god. Something that is EXTREMELY rare in this series.

When Týr said "Champion" i was like "Real smooth Týr" and i was disappointed in Kratos because he's NOT LISTENING to atreus because this not something that they literally not ignore like atreus said this far into the gameplay What's all this stuff about "Ironwood" and "Champion of the Jotannar" if none of that is real? Like "WHY" are these NAMES of a "PERSON, PLACE, AND OR THING" IS POPPING UP?!
Yeah that was a very poor move on Kratos' part, telling your child "you are my son, and nothing more", when their whole focus has been discovering who they are and what they're meant to do for the past several years is one of the worst things you can possibly say. Furthermore, its another example of Kratos tugging in a direction too harshly, moreso because he's hell-bent on avoiding prophecy and war than anything else, its quite ironic because you guys keep saying that Kratos has experienced a lot more of life than Atreus, and yet hes making the mistake of trying to prevent a prophecy from coming true, which was in his past and in history in general, a surefire way to make the prophecy happen

I won't spoil too much but consider that Tyr is only one God of war. The prophecy does not say he specifically leads the armies of the realms in ragnarok against Odin but that a god of war does. In norse mythology, Freya is also a god war not to mention Kratos himself.

In Greek theology, there are dozens of war gods in war time but in times of peace, there are much fewer. Zeus, for instance is normally the god of the skies but becomes a war god of fate during war time.
