Dear Sewing Friends - what is YOUR favorite way to upcycle shirts? Here's how to resize a men's shirt to fit a woman - th-cam.com/video/_NmJduag28Y/w-d-xo.html
You're so talented, adventurous, your sewing is so neat, i love the ideas🥰
I haven't tried it yet, but when we get to winter (I'm in Australia) I have a plan to buy some of those lumberjack shirts (I can't think of the name!) from the second hand stores and sew some Christmas gift stockings. We haven't used them before but I'd like to start! Last year I sewed double sided gift bags to use instead of wrapping paper, they have Christmas fabric on one side and recycled sheets and fat quarters on the other side, I tied them up with ribbon and will reuse them every year now. But the stockings will be good for the small gifts!
Hi, all of them👌 but my favourite is... Trousers!🤩
HELP !!!! Please. I watched your video on making/cloning pj pants. Followed exactly BUT I messed up somewhere. I took the old completely apart and traced 1 inch bigger, being the old were super baggy, BUT the finished product is tight like 2 sizes to small. What did I do wrong??
@@dawnlawson3682 Dawn, did you add seam allowances?
Thinking about the "making mistakes question." My mother was very talented. She sewed dresses for her 3 girls (including my 7 times as a bridesmaid), she painted like a dream, and was a creative writer. She told me a story once. When she was a young mother for my oldest sister, she made her a dress that she thought was full of mistakes. She told her elderly neighbor about her frustrations, and the neighbor said, "Hell, honey, It's hand did." My mother never used any off color language, but she quoted that to her four children as needed. Just keep in mind, "It's hand did." Lovely video.
That's such a sweet story! My grandmother was a prodigious home sewwer, and has inspired both her daughter and my brother and I to sew as well. I was lucky enough to get some of her unused fabric recently (she passed nearly 11 years ago) and I can't wait to sew something fabulous like she did.
@@chocjamie Yes! I have lots of my mom's scraps as well. Happy sewing!
My Momma made bridal gowns and tailored suits (and a billion other things), she was a perfectionist, but I'm more of a hand did girl 😂 Thanks for the sweet story!
Good morning. Please keep these upcycle ideas coming. 🙂 These three are great. Shirting fabric is perfect for so many projects. You daughter is adorable!
Your daughter has modeling that dress down. So cute
A lot of folks show thrifted items that they upcycle, and I know that you do, too, but it's soooo great to see how often you take existing items that you made/purchased/received and give them new life!!!! Loved that you kept the striped cuffs for the first top-really finished look! Loved hubby's shorts; the seams for the pieces to make up the panels were invisible. Wow! And your cheerful top looks great as a ruffled skirt. I can't imagine how long it took you to do all of that work for all 3!!! Quality, quality results, though! Thank you so much for your videos.
Abaigeal, thank you so much! Very true - what you said. I think I went thrifting for the sweater upcycles - I just did not have any in my close that could be useful for that. But yes, I am sure a lot of people have clothes that could use small or big changes and then can be worn and loved again! There will be more! :) I hope you are doing better and feeling better! Many hugs and positive thoughts traveling to you!
That dress is so cute, and so is your daughter! 😍
Alisa once again...another 'home run'.
...with a 'happy dance' to top it off.
Always delightful!
I like your pants.nice color.great job.
The unpretentiousness of your little sweetie is a real blessing to see.
And thanks for showing us new ways with old garments.
I used to work at Oshkosh/Carters and that bib skirt up-cycle was sold for over $50. Big win and so cute.
You are a genius !!!
Hey Goodmorning everyone: Why do you always make it look sooooooo easy...?? I luvvvv this channel..!! Once again excellent work. I love it so much..!!
I loved your upcycles and have always been afraid to try one. Thanks to your video and sharing your mistake, I am going to try an upcycles myself. Thank you and hope to see more of your hard work!
Mary
Omg I love those shorts!! When you said what you were going to do, I was like no way, how is she going to do that with so little fabric, but it literally turned out so good!! Especially the pockets being on its opposite colour 😍
God bless your child. She is so cute ❤
All so cute!
You are AMAZING!!
Very clever
The model did very well. ❤ Loved the up cycles. Keep this series going it great 🙂
I love your style of upcycling ! This is more creative than sewing a new item !
Thx so much for a great video. Some great ideas. And, the results all appear to be intentional. 🤗
I love all upcycle such wonderful ideas and fun
Fantastic pattern matching on those shorts!!!!
Love this video. I always enjoy your upcycles. The white sleeves look very intentional. Great job and wow, the shorts. I never expected that. Great use of two shirts.
I like all the pieces. Nice video.
Your creativity is amazing. Such fantastic ideas . Great way to save on clothes for your family and a way to keep your creativity going.
That bright floral fabric is stunning, knocking it out of the park with fabulous upcycles as always
I really enjoyed these upcycling ideas, especially the overalls into a dress turned out "sew" cute!
Thank you all these upscale were awesome. Especially ur husband's shorts. Very bold ..I must say. He must love u too much to wear it. But loved it myself. Thank you
Yay! Thank you for another awesome upcycle video, those are some of my favourites. I use all the techniques that you teach so so often. And upcycling, especially when you have a limited income, has become my NEW and most loved way to sew. Hope to see many more of these in the future!! 🧡🙂👍
I love all of these ideas, but my favorite is definitely the first shirt! So fresh and pretty on you! Well done!
All 3 projects came out beautiful. My husband also complains about store bought stuff not fitting him right. The sleeves are too short, pockets too small etc. I love the shorts. They look very trendy and unique. The regular shirt to a raglan sleeve is genius. I am thinking it could solve a too big shoulder issue just as well. When upcycling a man's shirt the shoulders are always too big and the sleeves are too long. Since I usually have to redo the sleeves anyway The raglan sleeve is a new twist. Thanks for the new tool in my toolbox. I like what you said about mistakes. I hate making them. But, mistakes are part of the process. They give us our best stories. 😊
Irene, I am so so glad you enjoyed it and got new ideas from it! Oh yes yes.... I did not even think of it - but you are so right! If you are upcycling men's shirt that is let's say couple sizes too large, then you can potentially cut the new raglan sleeve from the existing sleeve, because you will probably take in the side seam of the bodice as well, which then makes for a smaller sleeve that is needed - such good thinking, Irene!
SO CUTE.
Thank you, Donna :)
this is the most recent video I could find. I love your channel. I am learning so much from you, Your voice is charming.
Annie, hello there and thank you for watching and sewing along :) there are actually at least 3 more recent videos than this one... on any youtube channel, you can click on the name of the channel and it will take you to their channel page, then click on the "videos" tab and you will see all videos of this channel starting with the newest ones :)
You have a real talent for up cycling. Very enjoyable video.
Really nice to see you upcycling old pieces! Love to do that too. And indeed thinknit through upfront so that you don’t make mistakes that easily because you don’t have extra fabric! 😁
I love that when you were showing your daughter’s new dress you just showed the dress and didn’t try to use your daughter for likes. ❤. I love your videos. So much inspiration and information.
I love how the shorts turned out! So cool!
I love all the upcycles. Very well done.
Your creativity and skill never cease to amaze me, Alisa! Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas with us.
Nancy, thank you so so much! I just want to share what I have in my mind and hope that it is useful to others! :)
Thank you so much for showing that shirt upcycling can be successful. I have two botched ones in the closet and wish I had given it more thought before cutting into the fabric. The mistake was not to make a plan first. I learnt from it not to cut into fabric that I really love before I'm sure it's the right place to cut. And sadly, I never got out of it in the moment, but tossed them into the back of the closet. One day, I'll probably use it for a completely different project.
you did so well in joining those garments for an extra longer life!
Love your ideas!
Aww sweet summer dress, can’t believe the princess is 4 years old already ❤️🙏🏽
Beautiful overall...Perfect fabric combination also
Thank you so much 😊
I love watching your upcycles. You are so creative and innovative. In this video, my absolute favorite was your daughter’s new overall dress. How precious! Thank you for sharing your ideas and sewing talent!
Great job. I enjoy your videos.
Love your up cycle videos ❤😅😊
I love the look of the raglan dress shirt! Very unique!
Alisa, thank you for sharing all your ideas. You are the best
Nice work! Thank you for such great ideas🎉❤😊 you’re family is so fortunate to have you!
a girl after my own heart.. my 2 sisters always tell me.. "you're just like mom" she used everything available to her, I am always upcycling too so I am extending that compliment to you.. wonderful ideas & so much creativity.
Thank you sooo much!
Beautiful job on you daughters outfit.
Great video! Thanks 😊
I would be proud of all of these Flips! Thank you for the inspiration!
Thank you and I am glad you enjoyed!
I really did like the shorts for ur husband! They were awesome
You're so creative, the shorts are just perfect :)
I love the shorts!!!!
Everything you make is amazing!!!
I love up cycling and so happy to learn of it last year. I needed to replace my batiste nightgowns and couldn't find ready-made in my price range…so, I cut one up, made pattern pieces from it and used part of an old printed percale sheet as fabric. It worked beautifully and I have a nice, new nightgown. Thanks for all your amazing videos, Alica!
Tana, that's awesome! That's the best thing about doing it yourself - you can do it on your own terms and often get a better result, better price and better quality! So glad you did it and shared it with us!
The pinafore you made for your daughter is absolutely adorable. She's also a total cutie and your mini-me - she looks just like you.
I liked all your 3 upcycles of this episode, I look forward to others
Thank you so much!
You are amazing. I loved your videos 👍🌺🌿🏵🍀🌹🌿
I love your videos! I love upcycling too! Sometimes I go shopping at goodwill or garage sales and get clothing JUST for the fabric the clothes are made out of! You are so sweet and your videos are so fun to watch! I hope you have more upcycling videos!
You are a great teacher! The tripe and white shirt is gorgeous and I will use for many many more year, great job! The lovely dress that you did for your daughter tells us how great of a mother you are teaching her to enjoy and be grateful for your great sacrifice and the gorgeous result, another great job! And your husband shorts were OMG, so gooooood and comfortable! Keep on doing great tutorials as you always do… great job on the three recicle love!❤
Smart, cute, and very talented. Good job there girl. You inspire.
Really like this shirt! Thank you.
Great up-cycles. I think you did a wonderful job on both garments .
Just loved all your creative thinking ❤❤
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you for your help upcycling old clothes! Sometimes it is nice to use the other side of the old fabric to make it look new.
Great idea, thank you, Yvette!
Good job done well, very unique and eye catching 👍😎👍
First ti.e viewer. You have excellent skills, a confident, and polished screen presence. I like that you limit family's faces screen time.
Underarm stains come out easily with baking soda and peroxide. Soak the area in cold water. Apply baking soda paste made with water to area. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Spray with hydrogen peroxide, then scrub with a tooth brush. Repeat as needed until the stain comes out.
Edit: since I’m getting so many replies. I’ll put this here in case you don’t read the comment thread. Wash stained clothes in cold water only and don’t dry with heat. Heat sets stains. You may think you’ve washed the stain out, but you can’t be absolutely sure until you’ve inspected it again once completely dry. So no driers, irons, or steamers. Furthermore, one more thing to consider: a stain could also be set by prolonged exposure to the hot sun. So wash stained clothes the same day. Don’t give them time to set in.
I tried it before and it did not help me :( I use soda and peroxide for quite a few stains.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity that’s too bad. Maybe the deodorant had unusual ingredients.
You know, I was thinking the same! I even thought to do a test... Because over the years I have used a couple different deodorants and some stains come out with good or even awesome result and some don't... I was also wondering if the age of the stain has anything to do with that...
What a great tip!!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity it could be. I learned not to test fate and just wash all stained clothes in cold water so as not to set the stain (and on the same day as wearing them). Hang to dry even if I see no stain (absolutely no heat used, again to avoid setting the stain if it’s still there). If I see stains that only became visible after completely drying, I do soda and peroxide and it comes out.
Thank you - you are an inspiration to home sewers.
I love the last recycling ❤
Love love your videos on using existing fabrics. You make wearable items.
You are so far ahead of me upcycling, but I love to see what you manage to upcycle from old used clothes. Your creativity is amazing!
Wow very nice ❤
Perfect timing! I’ve been looking at my clothes that are still great but out of style. A few changes and they are great for a lot longer. Thank you so much!
I love all your makes, amazing 👍 that shirt looks absolutely perfect. When you were cutting the white fabric, I was thinking that won't go well together, but when it was finished, I thought damn, that looks great. Really thought through, I would think it was bought that way.
I must say, somewhere half way through I had a little doubt creeping in, he he, but I tried to brush it off and I am so glad I did :) thank you!
I love it, especially the shorts👌 thanks much
That floral fabric on the first shirt is absolutely lovely!
Amazing video as always
Thank you so much 😀
Lisa, I love bright colours and lots of flowers. Love ur projects.
Ouuu up-cycles are so much fun. I love how they turned out. You have amazing vision skills. 🥰 I have been watching the 2022 season of the Great British Sewing Bee and the transformation part just blows my mind. I feel like you would do very well on that show. 😊
Thank you so much 🤗 I love transformation parts as well! I wish Project Runway would do them more often, but their unconventional challenge is fun too, just makes the brain think beyond :) Sending you hugs and creative vibes!
👏👏👏 WOW! All the issues you endured for the shorts paid off! Super impressed with the match work you did - those plaid lines are on point!👌 And the finished product looks great too.
You're so very talented ! I love watching you. ❤
Fels Naptha bars do a really good job removing underarm stains, as well as other stains. If stains are keeping you from wearing your favorite shirts, it won’t hurt to try. Of course, restyling a clothing item is fun, too!😊
Good to know!
Alisha, just you last week, I love your energy, you make me laugh and encourage while I try to sew and follow you. Thanks.
Thank you for watching, Marjorie!
Oh yes the shorts look great
Gosh, I am enjoying your upcycle videos! So many good ideas and I love the way you speak. So clear and sweet and knowledgeable, I love watching my new found sewing channel!
Great upcycles! I'm going to have to start looking at things a bit different. I have made garments & then recycled them into other things.
I love your ideas. You teach us a lots. Most of the techniques I know are from you. Thank you very much.
I'm so glad! :) this made my day :)
Love all, especially the shorts.
Cute upcycle on the striped shirt. I had a commercially made shirt years ago that looked quite similar. Very sweet floral skirt for your girl. Lucky husband to get a pair of custom shorts.☺️ Great perspective on learning from our mistakes how to improve projects in the future.
I love watching your thought process unfold for each upcycle project!
Great idea, upcycling, love that floral fabric 👀❤️
Thank you, Arlene, that is for Dress A Girl, so you will see it in the future! 😊
@@ThoughtfulCreativity awesome
Beautiful projects ❤ thank you so much for sharing your creative ideas and fun teachings
Oh my, I love both upcycles! The shorts were really cool too!!❤You always inspire my creativity! Thank You for Sharing! 😊
Great video. I hope to try an upcycle project soon. You inspire me!
Thank you very much. Great ideas and instructions. I have some things that I wasn’t sure how to do the fixes, now I am motivated and confident. Love your videos. ❤
