Yes! I get so lazy and used to using my machine and getting that instant gratification that I tend to shy away from handsewing. But with a little patience, lol!, I can get a much nicer effect with handsewing.
Amazing. To think that not that long ago, many knew how to do these things, but the knowledge seemed lost due to cheap fast fashion... Thanks to you, I am learning to prolong the life of my garments! Thrifting, altering and mending for the win!!!!
Thank you so much Alisa, I really really enjoyed watching you creating those jumper’s into beautiful and gorgeous pieces. I really really love ❤️ each and every one of them. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
The use of an interfacing to keep the knits from unravelling is really smart. Thanks for sharing!!! ❤ My sister decluttered her wardrobe and gave me a chunky sweater in a nice color but the shape was really bad. But it was made from single knit peaces and not cut out from knit fabric, so I unravelled the whole thing and now I am knitting a scarf to give back to my sister. The color suits her way batter than me and I already have enough scarves.
Thank you Alicia for showing all these great upcycle ideas! I especially enjoyed the dress that you turned into a sweater vest with the zipper, that turned out "sew" adorable! LOL

I'm a in- home designer but I'm always pushing myself to do things. Just so I can get stuff done. I truly love you motivation & courage. Love this channel. Thanks for all the help..!!
❤❤❤❤❤ I watched this video about a year ago and forgot about it. Meanwhile for Christmas a dear friend gave me a sweater that is too big everywhere, but I love the color and the fact she chose it for me. I will be employing several of your techniques to make it fit me better. Really excited about ruching the sleeves!❤❤ Thanks for all your videos. I don’t watch TV; I watch TH-cam videos for lots of sewing and cooking ideas, music and movies. You are a delight to watch, even if I don’t plan to use your idea, at least not right then.❤❤❤❤❤
Hello Alisa 😊 was this ever a fun video. Your projects look great. I think it was Patrick Grant from the Great British Sewing Bee that said there is enough clothing on the planet right now to cloth every single person on the planet for the next six generations. That is staggering and to be honest it has been the motivation behind the up-cycles I’ve been doing lately as well. I’m so glad you are giving us tools for up cycling Awesome 🌟🌟
Thank you so much, dear Christine! Isn't that right? We have more clothing than we would ever need and the same can go about fabric. I am currently dealing with my fabric stash and it is almost at the very minimal stage and I am so happy! Yes....I feel the same way about upcycling and reworking my early makes! Thank you for being here, warm hugs and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
@@ThoughtfulCreativity I have watched your fabric stash video so many times lol. One of my favourites actually. I am working on mine as well. Merry Christmas to you Jared and Artemis 🥰
I love your video tutorials. This one is SEW Awesome !!! Really love all of the upcycles. Keep up the great work as it brings sew many people joy & positivity.
Great transformations. I will be trying the sleeve runching one out for sure. On a couple of sleeves and for one side of a dress. I think I will use the runching technique for gathering in one side of a mesh knit dress with thin elastic that is a tad too long for me. I pulled up one side with my hand and I like the way it looks. So inspired.
Hola bonita hermoso progecto, me encanta el ultimo, yo tengo el mismo problema, me diste una idea genial... grazie, gracias. Un fuerte abrazo. Yo estoy en Italia, soy boliviana. ❤️😘😘😘
Great information/tutorial. My very favorite is the zip sweater vest. I really like the set you did for your daughter. Incorporating the scarf your mom gave you was brilliant. When you are done with the sweater (with scarf) the scarf part could be used in a quilt, to make clothes for a stuffed bear or American Girl type doll for your daughter, endless possibilities. G.od has truly blessed you with a wonderful skill and vision!
I really appreciate these upcycle videos and all the tips and ideas you share along the way. They all look wonderful! I especially love the party-in-th-back sweater just as it is, but if you ever wanted to invite more fabric to the party I think replacing the buttons on the sleeves with matching fabric covered ones would also look nice.
Oh yes yes, or the purple sparkly ones I made from resin - could be so fun! Yay and welcome to the Members corner of this channel, I hope you will find a ton of useful things here :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Oh, so timely, I just watched your video yesterday where you made those fun, sparkly resin buttons. I think the purple ones would look awesome! Nice thing about buttons is you can dress them up or down for different looks. :)
It's so much fun watching your incredibly ideas and enthusiasm! Thanks a lot for giving us so much inspiration and useful tricks. Stay warm and I wish you a cozy Christmas time! :)
Vivenna, dear, thank you so much! I truly enjoyed reading your ideas, and seeing your sewing makes - it was great and inspiring, I love your neat work and interesting projects! may this next year bring you a dash of even more sewing magic and hopefully a mountain more of sewing time :)
Nicely done! You know, another nice thing about upcycling versus sewing from scratch is that it can be very hard to find good, solid sweater knits (why are home knits usually so thin or made from awful choices for warmth?) Also, sizing knits can be tricky so I think sometimes it really can be better to find something that fits well in colors you like and then change it up (cashmere sweaters are the worst for the awkward chokey necklines, but so soft and really, most of us can't afford cashmere brand new anyhow).
You are so right!!! Yes, finding a normal thick sweater knit in the fabric shop can be a challenge and also.... you know those beautiful knit cuffs and necklines - you can't get them by sewing, so it is nice when it is all done already and all you have to do is just to fix a couple of things. You're s right! Love it! Merry Christmas dear Esther, thank you for being here and for sharing your ideas! Wishing you and your family the very best this Holiday Season!
You're such an inspiration! I've been following for over a year (and LOVE all you do!). And I finally bought a pattern for pajama pants and I'm working on it =/ Not easy, but I keep hearing you: "If I can do it, sew can you!" wish me luck!!!

Hello. I really love your upcycles. I have a few things myself that I can use for something new🤔 I have a sleeveless jacket with a zipper that I am not sure what to do with but I will definitely think of something 😉😊thank you for all the inspiration I really love your videos
Thanks for another informative, useful video. Wish you had stated what zigzag settings (lenth & width)you used, so I would have a starting place. I loved the ruched sleeves and now I know ratio of fabric length to elastic, been searching for that. Cute cute keyhole idea.
You just use the instructions of the interfacing that you are using (usually found in the package or on the bolt) apply it with heat and also keep in mind if your sweater fibers can take the heat necessary to fuse the interfacing and that's it :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you for the tip. I’ll find an old sweater to try this on. Merry Christmas and may God Bless and grow your business/channel.
@@sternits be sure and use a cover fabric, (pressing cloth) so iron doesn't touch the sweater. Some interfacing will have you use a damp pressing cloth over the interfacing when you apply it. This wasn't meant to imply you didn't know this info already but meant as help or reminder, happy new year.
Love it all but specially the last one I have something similar but with sleeve. I wear as an oversized cardigan, but now it time to refashion it 👍…. What happened to your wall? Are remodeling your sewing room?
LOL! so true, his comments made me rofl. Alisa, I know this is totally diversion from the topic, but just curious to know what you do to keep yourself so fit and gorgeous looking?
I noticed that when you were cutting the polka dot material for the set for your daughter that you seemed to center it in the material available, leaving two small scraps, when it seemed like there was plenty of room to move it down and have one larger scrap. Was that an optical illusion? Or maybe you just didn’t care about saving these scraps? Or another reason?
The patterns were just on top of the fabric, half of the front and half of the back, the set featured full front and full back without seams, so it wasn't cut as you are referencing, it was just a clip of me putting patterns on top of the fabric :)
In the case of cutting the shorts - they are not pushed all the way down due to the fabric being stretched out from the wear of the sweater, otherwise I would get a lettuce hem :)
In my case the elastic is twice as short as the area (length) that you're gathering. You can also take a piece of scrap fabric and practice which will help you determine these proportions.

Hot tip: a hand backstitch is stretchy enough for knits! Just don’t make the stitches too big. I primarily sew knits by hand.
