    I think Putin lost this war the moment his troops crossed the border. He began with flawed intelligence, concocted a wildly unrealistic strategic plan, tried to cover his tracks with a ridiculously outdated propaganda effort, went into battle with a surprisingly inept military, and when forced to adapt, he simply reverted to his standard tactic of just shelling and bombing cities to smithereens. Add to that the obvious fact that he grossly underestimated the potential for world-wide unity against his plan.
    Hopefully, this will be the ignominious END of that sociopathic megalomaniac, and the world can FINALLY breathe a collective sigh of relief.

    I really want to believe that it's true. Clearly Ukraine has put up way more resistance than expected, but Russia will probably try many extremely brutal tactics before just giving up. Russia knew it was taking a huge risk by invading Ukraine, but that was in terms of economic sanctions and the western response. I don't think that Putin ever considered that he would lose militarily. Putin would not be able to survive if the Russian army has to retreat with its tail between it's legs, and that would just be an utterly humiliating defeat. If you think about it, the whole point of this war is for Russia to assert itself as a world power at a time when it's economic and cultural influence is in decline. To lose militarily would be a crushing blow to Putin's vision of Russias place in the world order

    A: Quite the opposite, none of those cities is encircled, even Mariupol. Muscovites approached Kyiv from northwest and stuck at the Gostomel airport for weeks. Kharkiv is not even approached, Ukrainian army stands right on the Muscovite border while Muscovite MLRS are shelling the city from Muscovy.

Anyway, if we have a substantial fleet of ICBN nuclear subs and their locations are unknown, I can't see Putin starting a nuclear war. The retaliation would be pretty devastating to the Russians.

    There's a lot of talking heads talking about how Russia is losing this war. The reality is a lot more complicated than that. The Russian forces have made inroads from the east of Kyiv and now has forces on both sides of the city. Sumy is about to be encircled, Izium and the south east is in a precarious situation. The next couple of days will decide the fate of Mykolaiv. No idea how Mariupol hasn't surrendered yet. The war is still very much winnable for the Russians. This is still a very dangerous situation for Ukraine.

    • @naitruan
      @naitruan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, Russia can still get a "Special Winning Operation", where they install a puppet government whose members are assassinated within days. An operation which will last years with Russian soldiers dying every day while Russia continues to be the benefactor of "Special Economic Programs" by the NATO countries.
      A 4 to 1000 ratio (Soldiers to civilians) of the Russian Army is just a bit shy of the 20 to 1000 ratio you need to be able to occupy a country, so currently, at best, Ukraine will become a "Special Entertainment Shooting Gallery" where the Russian soldiers realize daily why they should've brought 600.000 soldiers, rather than a third of what's necessary.

      AGREE. I THINK THE CITIES ARE GOING TO CRUMBLE, ONE BY ONE. THEN THE QUESTIONS IS, WILL THEY WISH TO GO ON WITHIN A GUERILLA CONTEXT, ESPECIALLY WHEN KIEV GOES. I WISH I WAS WRONG! And cannot some of those in the West move eastwards and help out, to protect the main cities, as one they have gone, the Russians can pick the villages and small towns off, one by one, with ease. And if Putin captures Kiev, he has the leadership on a plate! New PM.

      @@naitruan I cannot perceive he thinks he can completely subjugate these people to Russian rule by force, for he would have to make it a police state, but I sense he will do this, no matter how long it takes. He is a very determined man! Destroy the cities first, then isolate rural areas, and pick them off. Perhaps, he wishes to ensure he keeps Crimea, along with the southern coastline of Ukraine. With the rest I can only think he would allow them their own processes, up to a point, as a gift of reconciliation, but within his set parameters, which means no arms, no NATO, no EU. He wants a buffer state between Russia, and the West, as he sees us as opposites, and he thinks he is right and good, and we are the aggressor. I wouldn't like to bet how far this man is prepared to go, to get what he wants, even if it takes 10 years to dismantle their forces!

    • @naitruan
      @naitruan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nialloneill5097 But he's got a couple problems:
      His economy is shit and tanks don't drive without fuel and spare parts. Who's gonna pay the war expenses for this, and just how much money that isn't rubel do they have, given how the current exchange rate for a rubel is 1R = 0,00$?
      Putin can be as determined as he wants to be, he isn't doing the fighting, just the sitting at home. His soldiers and his generals and commanders are. The former are demotivated, the latter are currently getting killed at insane rates. Already 2 major generals are dead. That doesn't happen. Like ever. But somehow, Russia is losing them.
      So Putin ain't got no money, and he ain't doing any fighting so his determination is meaningless.
      Add to that, that Putin so far is at stage 1, which is creating supply corridors and encirceling the cities. And he still hasn't managed that fully.
      Stage 1 is easy.
      Stage 2 is where it gets hard: Urban warfare. Think of a labyrinth of concrete, filled with mines, traps everywhere, holes drilled into walls & ceilings to shoot enemies from where they don't expect it. Molotov cocktails thrown down stairwells at troops getting into the building.
      So far, there has been no attempt to take any of the major defended cities. The moment Putin tries? There will be thousands of dead Russians more - and if the morale breaks before they take a city, they lose ALL ground they bought with russian lives.
      After that? Stage 3, Insurgency. You need ~ 600.000 man for that, (national population / 1000 * 20) and Putin has barely under 200.000 deployed. Taking territory is easy, holding it? Not so much. The US learned that in Iraq and Afghanistan. They lost about 4k soldiers in Iraq, 2k soldiers in Afghanistan. Right now, Russia is estmated to have lost between 6k-12k soldiers already.
      This war will bankrupt russia, kill tens of thousands of russian soldiers, and gain nothing but the undying hatred of Ukraine.
      If Putin wants to win this war with his determination?
      He better start picking up a gun. 'cause at this rate he'll run out of soldiers willing to fight it for him.

    Second person I've seen saying the Ukrainian military can win this war, which is really surprising to me. I think we can all agree that Russia can't win this war, meaning achieving the goals they had when they started the invasion, there is no scenario in which Ukraine becomes the next Belarus. But until recently we all thought that there was no path to victory either for the Ukrainian military, so what changed? Did we send Warthogs and bunker bombs? I'm all for it but I've seen nothing close to that in the news.

      What’s changed? The fact we thought Russia was capable. Truth is they’re inexperienced. The general who lead the assault and said it would be over as soon as they saw tanks, doesn’t even have military experience. They don’t know what they’re doing, period. That’s why their 40m convoy has been stalled forever now and so many top commanders have died

    • @dont-want-no-wrench

      good question. the russians are still advancing- we see a lot of videos of ukrainians hitting or capturing tanks etc but i think that is giving too optimistic a view. i expect them to take big cities, power, etc and destroy a lot, but be subject to continual counter attacks and an insurgency.

    • @pignonMZ6
      @pignonMZ6 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks to me they are holding relatively well in the North and East with Kharkiv and Kyiv so close to the border and still holding. But the South is a very different story and Russia is making a lot of progress there. Odessa is next, and I fear this will be another example of the cruelty of the Russian army.
      I was also under the impression that the best card the Ukrainian army could play was the classic urban guerrilla/insurgency war, hopefully they're not over confident and waste the little resource they have in a frontal approach.

    The issue of NATO membership can only progress once a country's resolved any internal territorial disputes non-militarily. It's not really on the table, so Zelenskyy can cheaply use it.
    That NATO requirement is (in part) why Putin's been supporting Donblass (similar to Georgia and Moldova). Those disputes lock a country out of NATO as well as giving RU a casus belli.
