- Joey Landreth, of the Bros. Landreth, came by the Reverb office to discuss some of his slide technique. Joey plays a Collings guitar tuned to open C tuning, utilizing baritone strings to achieve the low tuning. Joey combines an intense knowledge of chord tones and his behind-the-slide fretting while playing slide.

"It can be hard to play a minor chord in an open major tuning" - plays a totally gorgeous minor piece. Darn you, Joey Landreth and your sweet fingers... and your tones... and... everything.
I still stand by this statement
Pro tip : watch movies on InstaFlixxer. Me and my gf have been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Jack Bowen yup, been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D
One of the best arrangement guitarists in the World in my opinion.
Get Blake Mills on
What are the odds of him and Sonny not being related?..my God, blows my mind..
Joey is amazing. Funny because Sonny Landreth has been fretting behind the slide for years! But no relation
Today I received my copy of the album WHISKEY...soooo good! But too short😔...hi from Barcelona
My sincere compliment for a thoughtful music lesson delivered with great, even inspirational, artistry. Wonderful sound, sir!
I thought my slide playing was decent. I was wrong.
Joey Landreth is so sick
Nice. Must be magic in the name.
I always find it interesting watching Joey talking about his technique, because it’s an amalgamation of Sonny Landreth and Derek Trucks, but he never talks about Sonny. I find that extremely weird considering his technique is derived from him. Maybe the name confusion gets in the way?
He just mentions Sonny in this video actually
Trucks, JD Simo, and Joey. Three best slide players of this generation
you probably didn't listen to blake mills. look him up, he is 4th :)
Faaantastic played, a wonderfull sound and a beautifull Guitar!!!
That tone. Ahhhh
That's some inspirationally great playing.
Kinda reminds me of adam savage from Mythbusters... Anyways, Beautiful playing and Nice tone!
He's like the love child of Jamie and Adam
This is amazing. So refreshing.
Great segment!! Thank you
What a great player. Wow.
Genius!
Oh! Jurgen Klopp
Does Joey remind anyone else of John Malkovitch?
I hope you guys get Niko Wenner in the studio one day! He does stuff that sounds like this but sludgy, like Sabbath and Zeppelin combined
My problem is finding the right slide for my scrawny baby fingers.
I have a small pinky and picked up the slide he uses on Amazon "The Rock Slide Brass (Small)" and it fits snug and it feels great
I put Styrofoam inside my slide or a piece of shaved cork.
Makes me wonder how he would do with a Jetslide. Almost instant access to the slide when you need it, but it's out of your way for chord formation. Not so great for fast soloing with all four fingers, but fantastic when you only need the slide "here and there."
you guys should make a video on the strat and tele plus models from the 90s
Really good stuff man, love it!
that tape machine looks amazed.
This is incredible 😵
Hipster af beautiful tone. I need more.
Can you guys tell me whats the thing on his guitar between the nut and the headstock? And it is for? Thanks
it’s a capo! for capo-ing! :)
OOOH :O
Awesome!
That's funny when he mentioned Derek Truck's. I have always thought his slide playing was budget version of Derek's. Mind you a budget version of Derek's is still incredible
Chris Hepburn I’m huge Trucks fan, hevis amazing but have to give the complexity nod to Joey. Either way we both win :)
So good but I really wish he would demo in a more conventional open tuning like e or d
